Chapter 686:
En Passant Grandmaster
Daria Inoue, age 40. Occupation: Stay-at-home mother and secret chess maestro of Japan. Favorite chess piece: The knight.
Awaking at the crack of dawn, Daria is quick to sneak into Mimoko's room and oogle at her sleeping state. Nothing warms her heart more than seeing her little girl sleeping peacefully. Sometimes she gets caught, but other times, she's able to sneak back out and get breakfast going with Mimoko being none the wiser.
Once Mimoko arrives for breakfast, the two usually play a casual chess game. Currently, Daria's ahead in overall wins. Just like Mimoko, she loves rice and mayo, but prefers the added taste of tuna a tuna-mayo oni giri provides. She also likes mango juice, though has nothing against the orange juice Mimoko loves so much.
Once Mimoko's off to school, Daria usually has free time unless there's a challenge request or meeting summon to WWCF HQ. There are even some days when she's able to spend her time freely. If she does have free time, she'll usually head out to do any shopping at the nearby convenience store, unless everything looks to be stocked. Then, she'll cozy up on the couch and watch a drama on TV.
Since the construction of the chess center in Kawaguchi, she often warps over there in the afternoon when Mimoko and her friends head over to it. Assuming she's free from a challenge or meeting, she'll typically stay there until Mimoko decided to head home. Warping back, she'll get dinner going and enjoy it with her family. She'll often play a second casual with Mimoko around this time too. Afterwords, she'll retreat to the sofa for more channel surfing unless maestro duties call. In such an event, she dawns her maestro attire and warps away to wherever she's being challenged from. Once she returns home, she takes a bath and gets to bed.
Her weekends are essentially the same routine as weekdays for her, with the exception that Mimoko might be home more hours of the day or at a chess tournament. In the case of the latter, it's common for her to warp over to the venue of the tournament and watch the games live from the secret puzzle cafe or chess center there.
