Chapter 20:
Bintchoo To Kukuru
The group continued on their way to the island. “So this place, its inhabitants are nothing but Demi-Human’s. So I ask to be cautious around them.” Yusuke said. “Let’s hope they are good Yokai, like the village of Oni.” Hiroko said. The boat got closer, and the group were able to see the inhabitants. “They look like humans.” Yuna said. “And? I do as well.” Ramon said. “Yusuke, what separates the two?” Hiroko asked. “Nothing really. Genetically they are the same, but aesthetically they look different. Any Demi-Human can turn into a Yokai, they just need the right circumstance to trigger the mutation.” Yusuke said. “Like when Ramon turned into a beast against the Akuma.” Yuna said. “Yeah, exactly like that.” Yusuke said.
The group reached the shore of the island, and docked the boat. Getting onto the island. Yuna looked at the sand. “So do we just walk around?” Hiroko asked. “I guess.” Yusuke said. “Ok, so you go, and check to see if they are friendly.” Ramon said. “Where did Yuna go?” Hiroko asked, noticing Yuna disappeared. Yusuke looked to the sand, seeing footprints, tracing where
Yuna walked off. “That way.” Ramon said, pointing at Yuna, as she walked through the beach.
Yuna walked onto stone, a street. Nuchijaa Houses defined the streets. Yuna walked through the street seeing many civilians. They were dressed up, wearing traditional Ryusou, green, going to their knees, like Yuna’s. Out of place by modern standards, but alluring to Yuna. Yuna hugged her own Ryusou closer to her. She walked down the streets as Hiroko made it to the streets, following Yuna. “Hey come back here, stop walking so fast.” Hiroko said. Yuna ignored her, walking through the streets, hearing a singing voice. Ramon and Yusuke followed loosely after Hiroko. The people on the streets realized the group's presence, and started pulling away, avoiding them.
Continuing down the street for a while Yune reached the center of the city. It was large and open. There was a crowd, people wore Ryusou. Hiroko, Yusuke, and Ramon made their way to the center, and heard singing. Yuna walked through the crowd pushing through finding a girl, no older than her. Her red hair flowy, reaching her knees, she had blue eyes, and she was dancing. A red Ryusou, sacred with golden silk, reaching her ankles, and holding a Shisa near the bottom. Her robe was open unlike everyone else's. Under her robes was a red silk outfit, resembling tank-top and short, her ankles had small little anklets with flowers, and she had no shoes. An inspiration from something modern. She held two fans, and danced with them. She looked happy, and Yuna was stunned watching it. Behind the dancer was a band, performing Sanshin, Taiko and singing for the dancer. She was singing in Uchinaaguchi, the dancer was mouthing the words, keeping along with the beat of the music. The music itself sounded more like a modern J-pop song than the folk songs Yuna listened to. The dancer notices Yuna, and slowly stops dancing.
The rest of Yuna’s group caught up with her, and the crowd pulled away from the group. “You four aren’t from here.” the dancer said, before she started to dance again, even as no song was sung. Yuna didn’t say anything, and the other three couldn’t understand what was said. Yusuke walked to Yuna, and pushed Yuna forward. “What?” Yuna said. “The lady said something.” Yusuke said. “Yeah, it was Uchinaaguchi.” Yuna said. “Then talk.” Hiroko said. Yuna took a deep breath, and took a step towards the dancer. “My name is Yuna, what is this place?” Yuna asked the dancer. “Yuna, my name is Makadu. Welcome to Agaitiida.” The dancer said. Yuna took a few seconds to translate the sentence, allowing her to understand it. “Uh, sorry for the delay, the last time I spoke Uchinaaguchi frequently was 2-3 years ago, so I’m a little rusty.” Yuna said, slowly. “No problems. Are you with those other people who come here often? They gave me these.” Makadu said, showing off her anklets. “They are nice. What other people?” Yuna asked. “I don’t know who they are, they only deal with our Queen, and as I am not the Queen. I don’t know. But they wear the same thing as that guy back there.” Makadu said. Yuna looked at Yusuke. “Of course they do.” Yuna said. “What are you two talking about?” Ramon asked, walking to Yuna. “I asked her about some men who frequent the island. I think the Mardom Rooh uses this place for something.” Yuna said. “They what? Ask the girl if she heard of them.” Yusuke said. Yuna looked at Makadu, and asked her. “Never hear of whatever that name is.” Makadu said. Yuna looked at Yusuke. “Nope, never heard. She said only the queen should know.” Yuna said. “We should go see this queen.” Yusuke said. Yuna sighed, and looked at Makadu. “Is it possible me and my allies could see your queen?” Yuna asked. “It’s currently difficult at the moment, as she is indisposed. She closed herself off from the kingdom, around a month ago. The Mardama Roos still come and talk to her though.” Makadu said. “Mardom Rooh.” Yuna corrected. “Oh sorry. Not used to hearing outside languages, what language is that?” Makadu asked. “Yusuke, what language is Mardom Rooh?” Yuna asked. “I don’t know.” Yusuke said. “Bobo.” Ramon said. “Bobo?” Yuna asked, looking at Ramon. “That’s not a language, it just means idiot.” Ramon said. Yuna looked back at Makadu. “No one knows.” Yuna said. “Where are you outsiders from?” Makadu asked. “Nihon. Technically Uchina. Two of them are Nihon, I'm an Uchinanchu. And the last one is from Pilipinas.” Yuna said. Makadu stopped dancing, before hugging Yuna. “Welcome to our island Uchinanchu, we are pleased to have another one of us.” Makadu said with a smile. “She is too close, get off her!” Hiroko yelled out, startling Makadu. Yuna grabbed Makadu’s hands. “I’m proud to be here.” Yuna said to Makadu. Makadu smiled.
Makadu led the group up towards the castle, as night started falling. “Hey, let me in!!” Makadu yelled towards the locked gate protected by Pechin. “Lady Ahane, what are you doing out?” A Pechin asked, before the gates opened. “I hope you guys don’t mind. Who I am I kidding you don’t. I brought a friend, and her friends.” Makadu said, loudly. The gates opened, and Makadu led them in, leading them to a house. “You and your friends can stay here.” Makadu said. “What’s a Pechin?” Hiroko asked. “Good question.” Yuna said. Makadu looked at Yuna curiously. “Makadu, what is Pechin?” Yuna asked. “Our nation's warriors, our soldiers.” Makadu said. “A Samurai.” Yuna said to Hiroko. “Neat.” Hiroko said. “You heard all of those words and Pechin stood out?” Yuna asked. “Yep.” Hiroko said. “Thank you Makadu.” Yuna said. “Don’t worry, you are one of us. We are here for each other, always.” Makadu said. “Good to know.” Yuna said. Makadu left them, and the group stayed at the house.
