Chapter 22:
Bintchoo To Kukuru
“Wake up!!” Makadu yelled out. She stood at the door of the house, and she ended up waking everyone up. Yuna flew up, started, running into the main room. “Don’t do that!” Yuna yelled, annoyed, and panicked. “Sorry.” Makadu said. Hiroko groggily followed Yuna, and leaned against her. “Let ush shleep.” Hiroko said, slurring her words. “Wake up.” Yuna said to Hiroko. “What does she want?” Ramon asked, walking into the main room. Yusuke followed after. Both the girls and boys came from different rooms. “For everyone to wake up, we have to make up for Yusuke’s whatever he did last night.” Yuna said. “I said, I was sorry.” Yusuke said. “I doubt that. You never say sorry.” Hiroko said, pulling away from Yuna, and towards Yusuke. “Regardless, I mean it.” Yusuke said. “Are they done with the conversation?” Makadu asked. Yuna looked back at everyone. Hiroko punched Yusuke atop his head. “Idiot, I said don’t get caught.” Hiroko said. “Stop being mean.” Yusuke said. Yuna looked back to Makadu. “I’ll fill them in. What exactly are we doing first?” Yuna asked.
Makadu brought the crew to the beach. “Well today is a fishing problem.” Makada said, walking to a boat. There was a bunch of half eaten fish, and two sets of tracks. “Fishing problem?” Yuna asked. “We need fish for the festival, and the brothers were supposed to get them, but the fish are half eaten, and they are gone.” Makada said. “And I guess our only clue are the footprints?” Yuna asked. “Yep.” Madaku said. “Ok, I’ll split my friends in two groups.” Yuna said. “I want the intruder and you, we will search the footprints going down the beach, the other two can follow the ones leading into the forest.”
Yuna looked to her friends, noticing Hiroko plugging her ears as Yusuke sang something aloud. “Hey, we are looking for two brothers, Ramon, and Hiroko, you two search the forest. Yusuke with me, we will accompany Madaku following the beach prints.” Yuna said. “Madaku, is that her name?” Yusuke asked. “Yeah.” Yuna answered. “Did you tell her I said sorry for last night?” Yusuke asked. Yuna looked at Yusuke annoyed. “Let's get this over with, we have a festival to attend.” Yuna said. “Why do I have to be with him, he is a mood killer?” Hiroko asked, pointing to Roman. “Because I can speak both languages, and Makadu most likely wants to interrogate Yusuke.” Yuna explained. “I don’t want to be with him.” Hiroko said. “What did I ever do to you?” Ramon asked. “Your vibe.” Hiroko answered. “That’s petty.” Ramon said. “Just go!” Yuna yelled. “Yes ma’am.” Ramon said, following the path leading to the forest. Hiroko followed after.
Yuna, Yusuke, and Makadu followed the path on the beach. “I should have made a cypher or something.” Yuna said. “Maybe.” Yusuke said. “Yuna, ask the idiot why he was snooping around the castle.” Makadu said. Yuna did as asked, asking Yusuke. “Important business. I’m sorry.” Yusuke said. Yuna translated the response. “Sorry? I don’t need your apologies. Now fess up, what is your little group up to?” Makadu asked. “Nothing, we aren’t up to anything.” Yusuke answered. “Liar.” Makadu said, but Yuna didn’t translate, noticing an old woman trying to get some Acerola into a basket. Yuna walked over, and started to pick the cherries, putting them into the basket. “This isn’t over.” Makadu said. “I’ve no clue what you said.” Yusuke responded.
Ramon, and Hiroko walked through the forest. It looked like Yanbaru forest. “So you hate me, why?” Ramon asked. “Never said I hate you. Just don’t know you well enough.” Hiroko said. “Oh same, but I know you secretly crush on Yusuke.” Ramon said. “Ok, no way. That Idiot. I’d rather take my chances with a baboon than him.” Hiroko said through chuckles. “Right. I also get the scent of hypocrisy from you.” Ramon said. “About what?” Hiroko asked. “At Yuna’s Utaki you prayed, we all saw. But I know you regretted it. I don’t think you like religion, but yet you are a practicing Buddha. And here you are because your friends asked you to be here.” Ramon said. “That is a gross oversimplification of my take on religion, and emotions.” Hiroko said. “Maybe, but I’m not wrong.” Ramon said. “Says you, we all know you hide behind humor, and a snarky attitude, but you are nothing but a lazy person who doesn't want to try, or be a part of anything. And I get a feeling I know why.” Hiroko said. “Oh yeah, why is that?” Ramon asked. “Because you aren’t happy with yourself.” Hiroko answered. “That’s an oversimplification.” Ramon said. “Maybe, but I doubt I am wrong.” Hiroko said.
The two reached a clearing, finding a man puking. “Oh that’s horrible.” the man said, sitting back. The man spoke Japanese. “Hello sir, are you the one who left the sand tracks?” Hiroko asked. “Just ask if he is one of the brothers we are looking for.” Ramon said. “You do it.” Hiroko said. “I’m a brother, yeah, the brains of Takue Brothers, of course my name is Sokon. Did Makadu send you, tell her I’m sorry, but the idiot ate all the eyes. So we started a bet, and I ended up-. Ohh I can’t say it. I-, I-, ate the other parts of the fish. I was hungry.” the man said. “And the fish made you throw up?” Hiroko asked. “Yep.” Sokon responded. “That’s stupid.” Hiroko said. “Hypocrite.” Ramon chimed in. “I will hurt you.” Hiroko said. “Oh, can I get in on this action? I’ve never fought whatever you are?” Sokon said, appearing behind Ramon. “Oh trust me you can’t handle me.” Ramon said. “Looking for a fight aren’t you? You like being hurt?” Hiroko asked. “Oh I don’t care.” Sokon said. “I wasn’t asking you.” Hiroko said. “That’s fine. Hit me with whatever.” Sokon said. Ramon instantly elbowed Sakon, knocking him on the ground. “Idiot.” Ramon said.
Yuna finished picking cherries off the tree, and returned to Yusuke and Makadu. “That was a waste of time.” Yusuke said. “That was a nice thing. Lady Saya has had it tough since she broke her hip last year.” Makadu said. “It’s not a problem.” Yuna said. The trio reached a cave and found a sleeping man. “Kenwa, wake up!” Makadu yelled. The sound echoed through the cave, and startled Yuna and Yusuke. “No.” Kenwa said, quietly. “What did you and Sokon do?” Makadu asked. “I had a feast, and he got angry about it. So he ate. Oh it’s horrible to think about.” Kenwa said, sitting up, and holding his knees to his chest. “He ate the rest of the fish didn’t he?” Makadu asked. “So, so horrible.” Kenwa said. “Alright, let's get you out of here, and get you back to your brother.” Makadu said. Kenwa stood up, and walked to Makada. “I just wanted to sleep after a good meal, and a traumatic incident.” Kenwa said. “Do it later, after the festival.” Makadu said.
The two groups reconverged at the boat. Hiroko carrying Sokon. Kenwa noticed his brother, and ran to him, only to punch him in the face. “How could you, it was the body?” Kenwa asked. “Good thing my nose was already broken.” Sokon said, standing up. “Listen both of you. You are to go back out, and catch as many fish as possible. Snack on some eyes, but make sure to save some for others. Please, the festival starts tonight.” Makadu said. “Yes ma’am.” Sokon and Kenwa said at the same time. “Were those Kijimanu?” Yuna asked. “Yes.” Makadu said. “I was always scared of them, growing up hearing stories of their mischief. I was scared to make one mad.” Yuna said. “Well sometimes things happen. They however won't get mad at anyone.” Makadu said. “So what’s next?” Yuna asked. “We have much to prepare, we need everything in place. Food prep, decorating, all that stuff.” Makadu said. “Well you have the right people for the job.” Yuna said.
