Chapter 45:
Bintchoo To Kukuru
Yuna woke up in a hospital bed. She sat up, and looked around. She saw a window, and looked at it, seeing Okinawa. Parts of the city were destroyed, but she saw as many people helped to rebuild it. Normal people who had no idea of the supernatural, along with mediums openly using their Majutsu, Demi-Human’s, and Yokai. All working in tandem. “Well, I definitely died.” Yuna said. She stood up and walked to the window, leaning against it, watching everything with a smile. She noticed Yusuke, and Ramon helping around. “Glad to see you are awake.” Sato said. “How long has it been? It seems like everyone has healed.” Yuna asked. “Well you helped to heal everyone. But you have been sleeping for a while. The first day of the next school year is tomorrow, but the city needs a while to heal first.” Sato said. “So is the secret out?” Yuna asked. “For Okinawa. Nobody was believing the story Mardom Rooh had passed, so they told everyone the truth. One caveat though the truth cannot leave the island. The rest of the world needs some more time until us Mediums are seen as everyday people.” Sato said. “I figure most people will try to accept it, but others won’t.” Yuna said. “That’s normal.” Sato said. “So, how long do I have to be hooked up for?” Yuna asked. “I’m not your doctor. I have no clue. Thank you though, for giving me another chance.” Sato said. “Well I chose to be a better person. But if you ever throw another star at me I will do something rash.” Yuna said. Sato smiled. “I’m going to go find the doctor. Enjoy the sights.” Sato said. Yuna smiled, and watched the city rebuild itself.
Time flew by. Hiroko, Yusuke, Ramon, and Makadu checked in on her, and gifted her another Ryusou. A white one with red and orange flowers. They talked and laughed. Hiroko and Makadu helped to dye Yuna’s hair orange again. Eventually she was released from the hospital, and she left. She stayed at Hiroko’s where she was greeted by many hugs, and kisses from Hiroko’s mother. After dinner Yuna found Makadu sitting in the back yard. Yuna sat next to her. “I can’t believe you went half a month without being able to talk to people.” Yuna said. “I talked to people. There were some nice old people who helped teach me some more Nihongo, but I still suck at it.” Makadu said. “I honestly thought you would return to Agaitiida.” Yuna said. “I want to. I need to say goodbye.” Makadu said. “We can go, and give everyone a traditional burial, but before that let's go visit my Utaki, and let the Futuchi bless us.” Yuna said. “I’d like that. Both the burial, and the Utaki.” Makadu said. Yuna leaned against Makadu. “So, how do you feel about your friend? The one guy who can shapeshift?” Makadu asked. “Not as much as I thought I would.” Yuna said. “I would say poor him, but I’m hoping to see some sparks with.” Makadu said. “You know what, he is from Pilipinas, you should learn Tagalog for him.” Yuna said. “I’m already learning Nihongo.” Makadu said. “I’ll learn it with you, and teach you Nihongo.” Yuna said. “Fine.” Makadu said.
Yuna lead everyone to her Utaki, it was supposed to just be Makadu, but Hiroko told Yusuke, who told Riku and Sato, and Ramon tagged along. Hiroko’s mother also came, wanting to be more supportive. Most of them stood outside the cave, and watched as Yuna and Makadu walked into the center of it. Yuna showed Makadu, a bow, three claps, and another bow. Makadu did as Yuna did. “Dear Futuchi, Kang, Mabui, Amamikyu, and Shinerikyu. We thank you for blessing us. We ask that you continue to guide us, and let us lead the life of peace. Forever and Always, your children.” Yuna said. Makadu started tearing up, and Yuna hugged her close.
Afterwards they got onto a boat, and headed back to Agaitiida. The city was destroyed, and the bodies were left to lay. Both Mardom Rooh, and the civilians of the island. Ramon saw Kenwa laying over Sokon. He walked to them, and placed his hand onto Kenwa’s back. The group started grabbing bodies, and they placed them in the cave near the beach. Trip by trip. Sato showed Makadu where Umitama laid. “Can you carry her?” Makadu asked, trying not to cry. Sato said nothing, only picking up the body, and carrying Umitama to the beach.
It took several hours but they managed to do it. “Can any of you use earth Majutsu?” Yuna asked the group. “I can.” Sato said. “Don’t bury them, just make sure that the water can’t get to the body.” Yuna said. “Why not bury?” Ramon asked. “It’s a traditional practice. Sometimes they are buried, others they are placed in a cold wet environment, letting them decay faster. After a few years we come back, clean the bones, then bury them.” Hiroko said. “That’s a lot of work.” Yusuke said. “I know, but I will see it through.” Makadu said. “Nice job speaking Nihongo.” Yuna said. “Sounds dirty and disgusting. I’ll do it.” Ramon said. “All of us will. It’s our failure that caused this. We need to make it right.” Riku said. Sato sighed, before making a wall half the size of the cave mouth, trapping the bodies inside. “That’s nightmarish. I’m sorry all of you had to deal with it.” Hiroko’s mother said. “Don’t be.” Makadu said, as she looked at Sato, and then nodded at her. Night came and they left the island. Yuna sat next to Makadu who broke down crying. She hugged Makadu tightly.
Several weeks have passed, and the city was done with repairs. One morning an alarm went off, waking up Hiroko. She looked at the time, and got up. She ran to another room, slamming the door open. “Wake up sleepy heads, we have a race to win!” Hiroko yelled at Yuna and Makadu who slept in Futon’s instead of an actual bed. They both shot up. “What time is it?” Makadu asked, speaking perfect Nihongo. “Almost 6.” Hiroko said. “Don’t worry, you will get used to it in no time.” Yuna said standing up. They quickly showered, dressed, and got food before rushing out of the house. “Have a good day!” Hiroko’s mother yelled to the girls. Makadu waved before leaving. “You three are going to be the death of me.” Hiroko said.
Ramon woke up on the floor, he stood up, and slapped Yusuke who was laying in a bed. “Wake up, you know Hiroko, she is going to be annoying, and we are not losing.” Ramon said. “Shut up, and let me sleep.” Yusuke said. “Are you not serious about winning? Huh, you're going to let your girlfriend win just because she is your girlfriend?” Ramon asked, shaking Yusuke awake. “No sir.” Yusuke said, full of purpose. He shoved Ramon off of him, and quickly got dressed. “Good man, we cannot lose.” Ramon said. The two left the room into the kitchen, seeing Sato and Riku cooking eggs. They quickly grabbed some eggs from the pan, and stuffed it into their mouths before leaving the apartment. “You little brats don’t steal from me!” Sato yelled. “No, come back and eat your breakfast.” Riku said faintly, before looking at Sato. “Idiots.” Sato said.
Ramon and Yusuke raced down the street. They ended up reaching the street leading to their school, at the same time the girls did. “Yusuke, I’ll play goalie, quickly use your powers to reach the school first.” Ramon said. “No!” Makadu yelled, jumping over Ramon, and tackling Yusuke. Hiroko and Yuna ran past. “Thank you for your sacrifice.” Hiroko said. “Come back here.” Ramon said, running after. Yusuke freed himself from Makadu, and charged himself up with lightning. Before he could run off, Makadu jumped on him, and he raced off. Makadu caused him to trip, grabbing Ramon, as they rolled down the street. Hiroko saw the mess, and sped up. “That’s bad!” Yuna yelled, speeding up as well. Hiroko and Yuna managed to reach the entrance, before getting pounced on by the group. “We won, girls win.” Yuna said. “You went easy on them Ramon.” Yusuke said, standing up. “No I didn’t.” Ramon said, hopping onto his feet, and brushing off the dirt. Yuna picked Makadu up. Hiroko wiped off the dirt from Yusuke before taking his hand, and walking into the school. Ramon followed after. Makadu went to walk away, but she stopped and looked at Yuna. Yuna looked around, feeling a sense of nostalgia. “Don’t worry Makadu. Everything is fine. It just feels like a chapter has closed, and another one has just opened.” Yuna said. “Well a lot has happened since the last time you were at school.” Makadu said. “Yeah, but I’m ready. For once I’m not nervous.” Yuna said, grabbing Makadu’s hand. “Neither am I.” Makadu said. “Together then.” Yuna said. “Yeah.” Makadu said. They took a deep breath and walked into the school. Starting the next part of their lives.
