Chapter 38

Thus, we have finished one of the three tasks you have to finish each month. I did not do anything to be quite honest - besides facing my past and easily submitting to it as it was too much for me to handle, that is.

However, this is far from important. I was part of the team that helped in completing the task and thus my duty was done.

When I came back, the three of us soon parted ways. Whereas Hibiki went to her room and Aki seemed to meet up with someone, I was kind of lost. I have no plans but I do not want to end this day here already. Thus, I searched for someone and soon enough found someone.

“Well, well! Who do we have here?”

Great Magician Sherlock - I think that was his title, right? - stood atop a small box. I nod and wave at him. If I can be honest, the guy was weird. Yes, I know, half of the people in this school are weird, but he is one of the weirder ones I’d say.

Anyway, what I am getting at: Despite deeming him a weirdo, I decided to spend time with him. After all, is it not exactly that which makes me know of people more and thus makes me understand the way they think? Is that not my very goal? Perhaps, once I do find out the reason for his… uh… weirdness… Well, perhaps then I will understand him and not judge him as a weirdo so easily.

“Hm? The reason for my existence as a great magician you ask of me, dear? Hohoho! Let me tell you of my story: When I was born, the seventh Protogoni stepped down from the heavens and told me: Thou art Grand Magician Sherlock, the bringer of true magic and the only truth there is! Thus, my fate has been decided.”

“Uhm… okay.” Talking to him did not change my view on him in the slightest.

Thus, I started to feel comfortable at the Academy. I talked more and more to different people and understood them more and more. Itoh, for example, looks up to Nagano. That’s why he dyed his eyebrows in two different ways, just like Nagano’s eyes are colored in two different ways.

Kida is a real tease most of the time and I soon noticed that she has some way of getting out of trouble or skipping class easily most of the time. I asked her to teach me how to properly skip as many gym sessions as possible, but she did not tell me of her secrets.

Arita and Muraoka seem to be really close - aside from being in the same gang, of course. They basically do everything together. Kind of makes me wonder whether Kida - the one who is supposedly the leader of the group - is actually third wheeling?

Uyeno is a sweet girl who massively undermines her own abilities. Aside from having one of the most crazy blessings I have come to know, she seems to be pretty smart as well. As soon as you are in a group of at least three though, she practically becomes completely incompetent.

Iwata seems to constantly scheme to defeat Hibiki with Okubo helping in any way. Okubo’s obsession with him is incredibly unhealthy, but whatever makes me happy. It’s not my life, is it? Also, Iwata’s obsession with Hibiki - though fundamentally different from the obsession Okubo has - isn’t healthy either.

Hibiki is mostly quiet and alone. Like she said, she isn’t interested in other people… but I think I’m coming closer to her. If there are any exercises where you need to partner up, I choose her most of the time. She doesn’t choose anyone else anyway so if I approach her, I get her as my partner.

The teachers have also grown on me over time. Mister Kazuki’s running obsession still was nothing I could relate to. I originally thought that it was merely the physical and psychological condition I was in but even after spending my first week there, I still hated running. Luckily, after the first week, we switched it up and stopped running.

I also had my first Blessing-Theory class with Mister Hideo. I haven’t seen him for quite some time and - to be quite honest - class itself wasn’t that interesting either.

I did not see Miss Hanebana as often as I thought I would but every time I did see her she was kind of like my mother, at least for the time I’ll spend in this academy. I like her.

I did not ever talk with Miss Headmaster ever again, but I guess that can also be a good thing?

Miss Cho was absent from school following that day. When I asked Doctor Itu if he knew anything about it he said that she had grown pretty sick. Miss Hanebana and Mister Kazuki each took half of Miss Cho’s lessons and gave their best to teach us. They were pretty good with weapons, however we used normal weapons instead of the normally used Yokai-weapons.

Doctor Itu and Miss Haruka are the two staff members I have grown the most accustomed to. They are - obviously since they are what I need for my blessing - also the people I have seen most often. Miss Haruka doesn’t really open up and it feels as though Doctor Itu has been open from the very beginning. They still feel fundamentally wrong, but I think that is just part of their charm.

And thus, the days passed by.

And soon enough, the day of the military festival, Kida and her gang informed me off when he went to grab a bite on my first ever - well, technically second ever - school day, came.
