Chapter 35:

A Date Gone Wrong

The Otaku Mage

“I still can’t believe that she said yes… “, Kuro said and fidgeted with his hair.

“And I can’t believe that you didn’t notice her practically sitting in your lap every time we went there… Stop messing with your hair. We just got it styled for you!”, Hinako said and gave him a strict look.

“Sorry… I’m just not used to it… being like this.”

“You look great! Don’t worry.”

The two of them currently were in front of the hair salon, where Kuro just got his hair cut and styled. The day before they visited Emi in her Izakaya and Hinako had just flat out asked her if she would like to go on a date with Kuro. To his, but not Hinako’s surprise, Emi had agreed immediately, and they made plans to watch a new anime movie in the theater today. The two spent all day preparing. Kuro got some new clothes, which still were just jeans and a anime shirt, but without holes.

“Okay so tell me the plan again.”, demanded Hinako

“We meet at seven at the theater, watch the movie…. Afterwards I invite her to something to eat and drink. After that I walk her home and that’s that!”, Kuro recited.

“Nice and simple, that’s what I like!”

Hinako was satisfied with it. She looked on her phone to check the time.

“Good… If you go now. You’ll be right on time… so have fun!”, Hinako said.

“Okay, thanks!”, Kuro said and went down the street.

Hinako watched him go for a bit, then she turned around and went in the direction of home. She arrived at their apartment building right at the time, where Kuro’s date should start. She went in and to the elevator. Two delivery people were already waiting for the elevator to come down. Hinako greeted them with a friendly smile and waited for the doors to open, which they did moments later. She went in and the two men followed her. She pressed the ninth floor. And then turned towards the men.

“Which floor are you?”, She asked friendly.

“Ninth…”, one of them said.

“Ah, okay.”

The door closed and the elevator went up. This was when she remembered that Kuro once told her that all the other apartments on the ninth floor were empty. Hinako looked at one of the delivery men, who just smiled at her. She suddenly felt something prick her in the neck and everything went dark.

Hinako woke up in a small and dark cell.

“What the… where am I?”, She mumbled.

“Oh, awake already? I guess they only gave you a small dose…”, A woman said from outside the cell.

The lights went on suddenly and Hinako gasped as she spotted the women to the voice. It was Emi, smiling deviously at her twirling a band of keys in her hand.

“Emi? What? What is the meaning of this?”, Hinako asked confused.

“A bit slow on the uptake, huh? Well let me give you a hint… You are now gonna pay for what you have done to my friends in Hakone.”, Emi said and her smile turned sinister.

“What? Hakone… wait… you’re…”

“Ding dong! You guessed it! I am a worshipper of Morthos! You made quite the mess in Hakone… and now I’m going to make you pay for it. They told me to let you alive for now… but that doesn’t mean we can’t have some fun.”

Emi pulled a dagger from her waist.

“Where is Kuro? What have you done to him?”

“Oh, he is sleeping in the cell next to you… he will be for a while, I made sure of it. I have to thank you for arranging our date… and right at the perfect timing, when I got the order to finally capture him… I was getting worried, because he hadn’t shown up in quite a while now.”

Hinako looked in the cell next to her. Kuro was indeed lying there on the floor. Hinako turned back and tried to conjure up a spell but nothing happened, that’s when she realized that she had the magic suppressing shackles around her hand, that the MDF used.

“Don’t even try… you’re not gonna cast any spells with these on.”, Emi said and laughed.

She then opened her cell door and came in. Emi grabbed Hinako by the hair and dangled her dagger in front of her face.

“Let’s see… where do you want to have my signature? The face? The stomach? Your legs? Oh, the choices… I’ve always been bad with choices… so maybe I’ll do all of them.”, Emi said and rejoiced.

She traced with the point of the dagger across her skin.

“Hmm… I think I’ll start with your face…”, Emi said

She sat the dagger on her skin, but her head exploded as if something hit her in the temple from the side, before she could cut.

“You okay?”, Kuro said from the other cell. With a loud clank the shackles around this wrist fell to the floor.

“I… yeah…”, Hinako said surprised.

“Who was that?”

“Emi…”

“What? Oh… now it makes sense, why the drink she gave me tasted weird… she drugged me!”

Hinako looked really confused at him right now.

“How did you… aren’t those shackles supposed to make it impossible to cast magic?”, She asked.

“Technically they limit your output to like one thousandth of your usual power… That means for most people that they are unable to cast magic… for me it’s just a bit of an inconvenience…”, Kuro replied with a shrug.

“You’re unbelievable…”

“I know… let’s get out of here.”

Kuro sent a small rock flying and shattered Hinako shackles. They then went out of the cell and through the only door in the room. They came to a stair leading up to another door. Kuro just smashed through it with one of his rocks. Three men, that currently played cards looked at them surprised as they came crashing into the room. They jumped up and tried to cast a spell, But Kuro and Hinako were faster. She shot a fire bolt right in the face and Kuro smashed the skull of the other two. Kuro went past a desk, when suddenly something caught his eye and he paused.

“Found something?”, Hinako asked as she saw him grabbing the book that lay open on the desk.

“That’s not good…”, Kuro said as he skimmed over what was written in the book.

“What’s up?”

“Look at these… these are detailed information about MDF members… home addresses, medical records, descriptions about their fighting abilities… everything…”

“What does that mean?”

“Nothing good…”

Kuro read on and then paused as he spotted a particular name.

Grandmaster Shinoha, MDF Hospital, fourth floor

“Fuck… we need to hurry!”, Kuro exclaimed and let the book fall.
