Modern day Japan in a world where magic exists and with it beings like yokai, demons and magical beasts. The MDF, short for Magical Defense Force, was created to shield humanity against possible threats and evil beings of magical nature.
Kuro, an expat from Europe with a mysterious past, is part of the Special Forces branch of that organization and a veteran in fighting demons. The only thing known about him by most of his colleagues is his burning passion for all things related to anime, manga and Vtuber, which is reflected in his self-given moniker of “The Otaku Mage”. The mixture of his awkward social skills and his tremendous battle capabilities makes it hard for him to work with other people and he prefers to do things solo.
After a costly botched squad-mission he gets relieved from his Special Forces duty and is stuck with Hinako, a young adept who is also known for being a bit of a problem child. He is now supposed to play the role of an instructor for the young mage.
