Chapter 3:

The Tenth! Owari Sepru, The Perfectionist "Teammate". (The Idealist Goldie)

7 More Little Bitchies

Let me tell you a story.
A story from another class. A class that forced me to get into a group of unknown people. The worst part? There is a literal goldie bitch on my team.

"Alright, people, we have an assignment, and we have to finish it in three days. Chop, chop!"

I have to admit she had a great voice and the looks, but holy shit, she was annoying.

"Hey, Uta. Stop daydreaming about Melphy and Sabrina and get your ass over here."

I didn't! I never daydream about anyone, even my previous seven.

"I didn't. Stop assuming people."
"I would, if you stop doing nothing. I'll be helping Ella; you help Dono. Quick! We don't have much time. Tomorrow we have a tight schedule."

I liked her spirit as well as her dedication, but man. If she understood teamwork, it would be great.

"You know what to do, dude?" That was Dono, who looked dumbfounded.
"No. You?"
"You saw my face. I don't."

And that was when my soul went out from my body.

"YOU WHAT?"

Upon hearing her scream, Dono and I hugged like little kids. Scared of their mom scolding them.

"DID YOU EVEN PAY ATTENTION TO THE CLASS?! MRS. GRACE HAS TAUGHT US ENOUGH TO UNDERSTAND THE MATERIAL."

Did she assume us to understand what Mrs. Grace taught right away? I mean, I had a hard time understanding all the materials that I learnt in high school. Did she expect us to suppress that?

"I have you know, I was one of the top students in my high school back in the day", that's not helping Dono.

"And what's that supposed to be? A counter to my claim?"
"I was just saying if the material was clear, I would have done this project with ease. The fact that I don't understand means there was an unclear instruction within the project. You, Owari, as the leader, have to guide us to make this project move."

That... was weirdly effective. Was she considering her leadership? She put her hand on her chin and looked really sharp for a second.

"Okay, fine. I was in the wrong. Let's gather the team and talk about it in more detail."

That took us the whole class, but the good part was that we as a team finally understood the assignment.

"You got the invitation?" That was Ella talking.
"We got it. We're on the group chat now", that was Dono.
"Great. We will continue this discussion on the group call. Don't you all dare miss it! Understand?!"

We unanimously shook our heads yes, and that was the last conversation going on in our group before we split.

After a long day at university, I went back to my boarding house. It was a cheap one, and I'm glad I could stay in a comfortable room.

*Tut Tulitut*

That must have been the group call. I opened my laptop and went on a call.

"Fifteen seconds! You are the last to join Uta. Make it quick next time."

Jesus fucking Christ, this blondie boiled my nerves.

"Okay, we'll continue our project with these..."

We continued our project until the clock hit eight o'clock. We made significant progress, but...

"You guys can go ahead and leave the call. I have a word with Uta."

Oh, boy. Here we go.

"You are a tough nut to crack, huh? Just because your name is "Main Character", doesn't mean you defy the rule."
"What do you mean by that?"
"You've seen how we operate. Why did you do it differently?"
"I... found a faster way?"

I shouldn't have said that. I could see her face become redder. I think I boiled her temperature.

"You got nerves to do it differently, huh?"
"I mean, it felt like a cheat code, why don't we just..."

*BANG*

That sounded like a gunshot. Was her hand not hurt? How the fuck did she do that? Just by punching the table?

"I'll have you know, Uta. If this hand could reach you right now, you'd be begging for mercy. Today, I'll let you out easily. Next time, there would be no easy! Do you understand?"

That treat worked. All my hair stands on end. I felt threatened.

"Yes, ma'am."
"Good night! Wait, no! Bad Night! Hope you get a nightmare!"

With that, she ended the group call.

"Man, what's with her attitude. I literally found a perfect solution to our problem, and she refused to take it. That was a stupid decision."

In the next two days, we have been busy finishing our project. We fall behind a lot, just because Owari wanted this to be too perfect. From this experience alone, I could tell she is a perfectionist, an idealist. She didn't miss a beat and would call out if we made a small mistake. It wasn't a pleasant experience if you asked me.

"We... We got second in the class?" Owari fell to her knees in shock and disbelief.
"From five groups. That's high, you know." Oh boy, you shouldn't say that, Dono.
"We've done well, Owari. Cheer up." Thanks, Ella. Please cheer her up. I couldn't help, so I gave that job to you.

After Ella said that, Owari stood up and walked towards me.

"Eh... Something wrong?"
"Tell me your cheat code, and then we'll ask Rudi's group how they handled this project."

We did that, and Owari got dumbfounded. After hearing that Rudi and his group did what I did and went for the cheat code, they placed first on the rank, making Owari sit on a chair, thinking about her life as a whole.

"We could've done it better and faster if we had taken your route."
"Sorry. I'm really sorry!"
"No. I'm the one who should be saying sorry. Why would you?"
"... I just felt like I had to?"

She looked at me with such disgust.

"I'm... sorry."
"No, stop. We end this group now, please."

Which made me not move because...

"Why did you not go back to your original position, Uta?" Owari asked.
"This is my original position. You're sitting next to me."

She sat in defeat, and her face turned down. I saw that she was about to cry. Without thinking twice, I comforted her.

"The world isn't perfect, and we still live in it. Don't take everything too seriously, and your life will be happier. Trust me, Owari. You would be miserable if you kept on wanting perfection."

I have no idea why I kept on making this wise man's advice for a girl that I barely know. I knew I would end up getting the sharpest edge of double edge sword, but I kept on doing it.

"Uta. Please go out with me for one date."
"Sorry? Did I hear that correctly?"
"I want to... talk about something. Just the two of us."

And that's the end of that. She ended up liking me and my collection of bitchies, getting bigger and bigger. There was no end to this, wasn't it? I got myself an idealist goldie on my list now, and it didn't feel great.
