Chapter 28: The Abyssal Demon’s Guide to Being Edgy

"Strawberries?" "Won't die?"

Where the hell does this guy get his confidence?!

The soldiers felt like they were going insane. This guy is definitely a mental patient!

"No! We have to evacuate him!" The soldiers rushed forward, gritting their teeth, preparing to tie Lynn up for his own safety.

"Hey! What are you doing? Let's talk this out!" Lynn protested.

But at that exact moment... BOOM. A terrifying pressure enveloped the entire city.

The soldiers froze. They looked up instinctively. Their faces turned pale with horror.

High in the sky, the massive spatial rift tore open completely. Countless winged demons swarmed out like locusts, their screeching roars echoing through the city.

"Oh no!!"

Then, amidst the swarm, they saw a figure shrouded in crimson blood-light. Like a meteor, it crashed directly into the city's defensive barrier.

CRASH—

The barrier rippled violently. The figure pierced through the magical shield like it was paper and slammed into the city streets.

"HOLY SHIT!!!" The soldiers screamed.

BOOM! The figure landed just fifty meters away from them. The ground shook violently. The shockwave knocked the soldiers off their feet.

Lynn stood still, completely unbothered. He licked his ice cream.

"Hehehehe..." A shrill, eerie laughter echoed from the crater.

Under the terrified gaze of the soldiers, the figure slowly stood up. Black armor. A tattered cape fluttering in the wind. In its hand, a massive, jagged blood-sword. It stood over three meters tall.

The most terrifying part? Its neck was empty. It had no head.

In its other hand, it held a helmeted head by the hair. The head was grinning twistedly.

"Finally... I have descended!"

Lynn blinked. He licked his ice cream again. Lick.

[ Meanwhile: Outside the City ]

ROAR—

The Abyssal Bone Dragon spread its massive skeletal wings and unleashed a breath of freezing dragon fire.

Nanako gritted her teeth, chanting a spell. A massive ice shield expanded. BOOM. Dragon fire clashed with the shield. Stalemate.

Arnold swung his holy greatsword, cutting down Fel Guards left and right. But the sheer number of monsters pouring from the valley was overwhelming. They were surrounded.

"Interesting."

High in the air, Freya, the Thorn Witch, covered her mouth and giggled. She looked down at them with amusement.

"No wonder you dared to challenge me. You have a City-Breaker Mage from Winterspring. But what a pity..."

"Your struggle is meaningless. The Great Demon Lord's retainer has already descended!"

Nanako and the Knights turned pale. They looked toward Moon Orchid City. They could see the swarm of demons and feel the terrifying aura radiating from the city center.

Freya smiled seductively. "That aura is so powerful and evil. If I'm not mistaken, the one who descended is one of the Demon Lord's most capable lieutenants!"

"The Great Headless Knight! High Demon Lord, His Highness Axus!"

Hearing this name, Nanako’s face lost all color. She knew the lore. Axus. A mutated High-Tier Black Knight. Legend said he was the symbol of war and slaughter. He delighted in torture. His favorite hobby was chopping off heads and listening to the screams.

"No! We can't waste time here!" Nanako gritted her teeth. She blasted the Bone Dragon back and tried to break out of the encirclement to save the city.

But Freya wasn't going to let her leave. She cast a spell instantly. Countless blood-thorns erupted from the ground, blocking Nanako's path.

Freya licked her crimson lips. "Little sister, your opponent is me. Getting distracted during a fight is... dangerous."

She smiled, her expression twisting into something savage. "Stay here with me. Let us wait for Prince Axus to begin his Feast of Slaughter!"

[ Moon Orchid City ]

Clank. Clank.

The three-meter-tall Headless Knight walked out of the crater, grinning.

The soldiers were terrified. "RUN!"

They didn't know his rank, but the aura of death he radiated told them everything. They were ants compared to him. They turned and fled in panic.

Axus swung his massive sword. "Puny ants! To die by my hand is the honor of your lifetime! Hahahaha!"

SWISH. The shockwave from his swing sent the soldiers flying. Screams filled the air.

Then, a voice filled with Chunibyo (Middle School Syndrome) arrogance echoed through the city.

"There is nowhere to run! Puny Humans!"

"The only value of your existence is to provide us with entertainment!"

"Before I crush you like insects, I shall listen to your tragic wails! That will be my greatest pleasure!"

"MUAHAHAHA!"

He laughed maniacally, swinging his sword. Every swing brought down a building. Panic spread like wildfire.

[ Inner Voice ] [ Hiss—— My goosebumps... ]

[ Inner Voice ] [ I can't take it. This is physically painful. If I don't plug my ears, I might die of cringe. ] [ I could carve a three-story villa out of the ground with my toes right now. ]

[ Inner Voice ] [ But why does his edgy dialogue sound so familiar? ]

Lynn sucked in a breath of cold air.

The Headless Knight continued his destruction. In his eyes, these humans were nothing. He wore a cruel, twisted smile on his detached head.

Then, swiftly, he pulled a book written in Abyssal Script from his chest armor. He quickly flipped a few pages, checked a line, and his smile grew even more twisted.

"Sorrowful humans! You shall all perish under my butcher's blade!" He laughed and swung his sword again.

Lynn squinted. He could see the title on the cover of that book.

The author's name in the corner was blurry, but the first character was visible...

Lynn.

[ Inner Voice ] [ As expected! The Great Demon Monarch didn't lie to me! ] (Axus's inner thought, probably).

[ Inner Voice ] [ Shouting these lines during battle really boosts my style points! I feel so cool right now! ]

Axus laughed. But as he wreaked havoc, his gaze swept across the street.

He stopped. His eyes landed on a young man standing fifty meters away.

The young man seemed completely oblivious to him. He was wearing slippers. Holding two melting ice cream cones. Sitting on a fruit stall. And currently using a small knife to cut strawberries.

His knife skills were clumsy. He chopped a strawberry into mush, then happily sprinkled it onto his ice cream.

It was such a peaceful, slice-of-life scene. It was completely incompatible with the apocalypse happening around him.
