Chapter 30: This Demon is Actually Crying!

"Old horses still aspire to run."

Vivian knew the entity before her was a witness to the rise and fall of the Violet Family. He was their final guardian. Tears welled up in her eyes. She nodded heavily.

"Let's go!" The Sword Puppet raised his head. Sword intent surged. Zoom.

In an instant, they appeared atop the high city walls of Moon Orchid City. The Sword Puppet gazed toward the city center with cloudy, mechanical eyes. He frowned.

"The aura of the Headless Knight. A High-Tier Demon Lord."

Vivian trembled. "Grandpa Puppet, do you know him?"

The Sword Puppet rasped, "Thousands of years ago, I followed Master to the Abyss. This demon cried and begged to join Master's army, but Master rejected him..."

Vivian was stunned. She never imagined such a backstory.

The Sword Puppet narrowed his eyes. "If this were a few millennia ago, I wouldn't even look at him. But now... I am a failing machine. My power has degraded. Dealing with him will be troublesome..."

Vivian gulped. "Grandpa Puppet... what are your odds of winning?"

The Sword Puppet took a deep, rusty breath. "Less than 50%..."

Vivian shuddered. Less than 50% against the Headless Knight? What if the actual Demon Monarch descends later?

Fear gripped her heart. She couldn't imagine the despair that awaited them.

"I am going!" The Sword Puppet’s eyes glowed with mana. He stepped onto the ramparts, white hair fluttering in the wind. He prepared to leap into the fray for one last glorious battle.

But just as he was about to jump...

WHOOSH————

A long, miserable scream echoed from the city center. A mysterious spherical object was hurtling toward them at supersonic speed.

ZOOM. The object flew right past the Sword Puppet’s face, missing him by an inch.

BANG! It smashed into the stone wall behind them, embedding itself deep into the brickwork.

The Sword Puppet and Vivian froze. "WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?!"

They turned around slowly to look at the wall. And their jaws dropped.

"Is that..."

Embedded in the wall was a Demon's Head. The helmet was dented. The face was bruised. The lips were trembling, eyes glazed over, nose bleeding. It looked like it had just experienced hell.

The Sword Puppet recognized it instantly. "That's... the Headless Knight's head?!"

Vivian gasped. "You... You're kidding, right?!"

Suddenly, the head woke up. Its eyes focused on Vivian and the Sword Puppet. Hope ignited in its gaze.

"Help me... Help me..." It screamed in terror, like a drowning man clutching a straw.

"Take me away! Take me away right now!! Anywhere! Just get me out of here!!!"

The head shrieked, tears streaming down its face.

Sword Puppet: (O_O) Vivian: (O_O)

W-What is happening? Why is the Demon Lord begging for mercy? Grandpa Puppet said he was a badass High-Tier Demon!

Vivian asked, "Grandpa... what is going on?" Sword Puppet muttered, "I... I am also very confused."

Before they could process anything... SUCTION. A terrifying gravitational force erupted from the city center.

"NO!! HELP ME!! HELP!!!" The head screamed as it was ripped out of the wall and sucked back toward the city.

ZOOM. It flew back the way it came.

"It flew back!" Vivian and the Puppet stared, dumbfounded.

A few seconds later. SMASH! A loud impact sound came from the distance. Like someone hitting a home run.

Then... ZOOM. The head came flying back toward them again.

"SAVE ME!!!" The scream approached rapidly.

"It's coming back!!" Vivian shrieked.

The head flew past them again. BANG. It hit the same spot on the wall. Before it could say a word, the suction force pulled it back again.

"SAAAVVVEEE— MEEEE—" Doppler effect.

"It flew back again!" Vivian covered her face, horrified.

For the next few minutes. The Headless Knight's head became a tennis ball. It flew back and forth, smashing into the wall, getting sucked back, getting hit again.

Zoom. Bang. Zoom. Bang.

Vivian’s jaw was on the floor. Her eyes tracked the head like a spectator at Wimbledon. "WHAT IS HAPPENING?!"

[ Meanwhile: Outside the City ]

Nanako and the Sky Knights were still in a stalemate with Freya and the Abyssal Cultists.

Nanako blasted the Bone Dragon back with an ice spell. She turned and shouted, twin-tails flying: "Quick! We must leave! We can't stay here!"

She realized their strategic error. By getting pinned down here, they left Moon Orchid City completely defenseless. Like a naked Loli in a snowstorm. The city could fall at any moment!

But Arnold and the others were helpless. They were facing a Peak City-Breaker Warlock and a Bone Dragon. If not for Nanako's high-tier magic, they would be dead already.

Freya hovered in the air, touching her lips arrogantly. "Struggle is futile. Even if you go back, you have no chance. If you can't even beat me, how can you defeat the mighty Lord Axus?"

She looked toward the city with fanatic devotion. "Lord Axus is a High-Tier Demon Lord! He can destroy a nation single-handedly! Unless a Mage God descends, no one is his match!"

"Hehehehe— If I'm not mistaken, Lord Axus has probably slaughtered the entire population by now!"

She laughed mockingly, her generous chest bouncing with glee. Nanako turned pale.

[ Moon Orchid City ]

"I——" "WANT——" "TO——" "GO——" "HOME——!!"

The head flew through the sky, sprinkling tears everywhere. The scream was filled with homesickness, despair, and a longing for life.

Axus was crying. Being used as a football was a pain no demon should endure. I was wrong! I shouldn't have come here! Gods! Just strike me down with lightning and end this suffering!

Splat. As the head flew past Vivian, a tear flew off and landed on her cheek.

Vivian stood there, frozen. She touched the wet spot on her face.

She looked at the Sword Puppet, completely bewildered. "This Demon... is actually crying..."
