Chapter 2: Getting Used To Our New World
Adventuring With Bros In A Fantasy World
We got ourselves some equipments from the blacksmith shop. There was a sack of gold hanging on my jeans with a paper written 'For your equipments'. It might be the old man's doings.
We can only afford weapons, a weak sword for me and a weak daggers for Jayden but it can do as long as it is sharp and can kill.
I took the role as a knight, strong, durable, protector and always up front. I have never really want to be a protector of my country back from my old country because of those corrupt government. Jayden has the role of an assasin, fast, sneaky, and deadly.
Our first quest is to slay 3 goblins and bring it's middle fingers for confirmation. The reward is 25 gold coins. If we beat that goblin before without any weapons, we might do this easily. We entered the forest, north east of the kingdom Izmael.
Jayden readied his daggers on his hands "Okay, let's get ready"
People say there are a lot of goblin camps around these area, we might find goblins in no time. Suddenly, something came out of the trees above, startling us in defence mode.
They were exactly 3 goblins. They are pointing their daggers at us as they growl.
"Looks like we hit a jackpot" I grinned
"Don't get too cocky Mathew, I have a feeling they might be strong. I will take the one on the left and you take the rest"
I could see Jayden's trembling legs.
"What!? No, you will take the two and mine is the one and I can say it because I am the leader"
"And I don't care"
"How about we go together?"
"We might hit each other accidentally"
I frowned "Gah fine, distract that one away"
Jayden took slow steps to the left away from me, the goblin followed him, separating from the others.
I slapped my head "Okay me, you can do this. Killing was never in you but these are goblins, wretched beasts. Animals kill each other to survive, and to survive in these kind of situations, I have to kill or defend myself. I can do this, I can kill an unforgiving beasts"
The goblins in front of me were smiling, laughing, and drooling crazily. They are looking at me like a food.
"Come on! Let's get this over with!" I shouted
I stepped forward and swung my sword , they both dodged backwards. I swung my sword at them again, they dodged. These goblins are smart than I thought.
Suddenly, the goblin on the right charged at me and made a slash on my right knee, it ran away as it laughed maniacally. I grunted as the dagger went through my skin, the wound started bleeding.
"You little-!"
I readied my sword as I spun around and delivered a heavy swing. My blade reached and cut cleanly on the running goblin to the neck, decapitating it. The body and the head dropped to the ground lifelessly.
"Ha! I got one in just 30 seconds! And my most first kill in my entire life!" I celebrated
"Urchaaaaaaaa!"
The other goblin screamed as he witnessed his dead friend fall. The goblin's skin suddenly started turning red from head to toe like a madman.
"Woah, are you okay?"
It charged at me, I jumped over the goblin before it makes a slash on my leg. Before I could land to the ground, it leaped at me.
I blocked it's dagger on time. This red guy seems much more aggressive, more stronger and faster. I even felt a strong push when I blocked, it is strong for a size of it.
I have to kill it as soon as possible. By the time my feet touched the ground, I pushed the dagger away it's dagger away with my sword and delivered a left jab to it's face.
"Urka!"
It grunted, it flew and landed safely. It made a shout of war cry, I dashed forward and kick it to the ground, pinning his torso.
"Goodbye little fella"
I raised and sword and jabs it's skull, killing it instantly.
"Ha! In about minute and half, I killed 2 goblins. Phew, you done there Jayden?"
He raised the body of also a reddish goblin he fought, it was stabbed to the heart. Jayden has dagger wounds on his forearms.
"Yeah, it just suddenly turned red when I kicked his head multiple times trying to taunt it " he sighed "Damn, my weapons have small reach giving me a lot of disadvantage with these kind of guys. I am going to get used to it with some training"
We suddenly started hearing strange familiar sounds around us"
"Urckakakakaka!"
"Ugreee!"
7 leaped out of the bushes, smiling with their tongues and saliva out.
"Not this things again!"

I opened the guild door, we arrived wounded, bruised and exhausted.
An old man noticed me "Aren't those lads the new team Douchebags!?"
"Hey, they are!"
The guild erupted in laughter
"Yeah yeah right" I muttered
We walked towards the counter.
"Who even name their team Douchebag!?" A man shouted with a laugh
"Me" I replied
"Oh shit he's right. I mean, he did name their team Douchebag"
"You two seems in a bad state" Halia said
I put all the sacks of fingers on the counter.
"I want to get our rewards for our current quest. Oh yeah, I will accept the bring 5 finger goblin quest and sign it completed"
"Okay sure" she brought up the quest paper "Sign it here"
I signed my name below the accepting guild member name and pointed it back to Halia.
"And now I sign it here and now it's done"
She ducked under the counter again and brought up 2 sack of coins.
"This is the 20 gold coins for slaying 3 goblins and this the 30 gold coins for bringing goblins rags"

I took the gold coins and gave Jayden the 20 reward. I took 5 from my sack and gave it to him for equal.
"Can I ask of tips and info?" I asked
"Well, sure, of course I can"
"Well, we encountered like 10 goblins a while ago. During the fight, some of them turn red. Why?"
"Well, that's their survival mechanism. Just like humans, they feel stronger when they feel danger. So if the goblin feels danger, it will turn red showing that it's survival mechanism activated"
I see, we called that adrenaline rush, but I don't think she will understand that. Sound like a scientific word.
"Any more ways to earn money?"
"See that board over there?" She pointed where the people are crowding "That's a task board. When a person needs help or need something, they can put it there so guild members who are willing to help can accomplish it for themselves. It's like a side quest but take note, the guild tasks is a way to prove yourself your way to rank yourself up. The higher your rank, the harder and dangerous the tasks will be given to you but comes with such high rewards"
"I see"
Jayden's stomach growled "I am starving"
Halia giggled "You may take a seat over there, a waiter will soon at your table"
We took our seat and looked at the menu.
Beef stew, roasted chicken, fried fish, potato stew. Our eyes scanned around the menu. Dragon's Breath? I'ma guess that is a very spicy one.
"It seems like we have a problem here" I said
"Indeed"
A beautiful lady came to our counter "Hi, what can we get for you dear customers?"
"Is there already rice here?"
"Yes, it will be an additional 1 gold coin"
Seriously, pay for a rice?
"Okay, roasted chicken and a rice"

"Why would you name your team that isn't it stupid?"
I pointed at Halia who was talking with a rogue and an assasin "I was just thinking out loud stupidly and she suddenly wrote it in instead of me. I tried to change it but I need to pay 60 gold coins for that"
"Ah, I see" He stood up "Since the two are new, I will just give a tip. Recruit more people in your party and get stronger as soon as possible. The monster are not only your enemies, but also other guild members. They will try to steal and sell your things. Gonna get moving, I just came to ask why you named your team Douchebag. Sorry if I was a bother"

That was a nice guy after all. The waiter came back with plates on her hands with hot steaming roasted chicken and rice.

We paid the waiter, we rubbed our hands and licked our lips at the same time and dine in.

I noticed Jayden eating faster
"Damn, this is so delicious. I am not going to waste a single protein and calories"

We rented a room in an inn nearby the plaza, 8 gold coins a month.
Jayden flopped on the bed "A comfy bed after a tiring day" I opened the window, I can see the whole are of the plaza, the breeze of the wind swept in.
I looked at the backyard window, it is a bit wide grassy area with tall wooden railings but can be enough.
"So, we gonna work out tonight?" Jayden asked
"I think it is better in the morning or in the afternoon. There's not much light and we need the backyard. We can do non equipment work outs like push ups but what about pull ups"

"I think we should start making equipments. We can eat again after"
"Goodamn yeah, but talk about saving money. I will eat for tonight"
I locked the door and went downstairs. We met the owner cleaning the floor. It was a good thing the owner is an old woman, she let us call her grandma since it reminds her of his grandson.

She stopped sweeping and looked at us.

"Uhhh, is the backyard free to use?"
"Oh, well I was thinking what I can do with it for the past few months but I can't think of any. Why did you ask?"
"We were planning to make it as our work out place"

"I mean a training place or training ground. Well, we will install some equipments there but will soon place it neatly when we are done"
"Do whatever you want with it, the other guests doesn't usually go there"

Excitement grew over us, we went to the backyard.
"Good thing those wooden walls are tall. People won't see us work out" Jayden muttered
"So, we place the pull-up bar here. Probably like 2 sturdy sticks and a thin long metal bar, if there's none then a stick as long as it can withstand heavy persons" My mind started to become a mess "I am not much of a engineer"
"Yeah, me too. For a alternative dumbbell, we make a hole on 2 same heavy rocks and insert a metal bar in the holes. But we can't tell how much a stone weigh, might cause some imbalance. But we can use cement using the same bucket"
"Great idea. The road has cement on it so that means cement exist in this time"
Jayden sighed "I think we will only make a pull up bar and a dumbell today before night. I really want to work out now"
"I agree"
We started working, walking around, asking for free scraps.
I worked on the pull up bar as Jayden work on the dumbbells, using the left over cement ingredient the othe old woman have.
Instead of long sticks, we got long thin metal bars, more better, I will now improvise. I dug 4 metal bars to the ground, 2 partners part from each other.
"Give me the hammer and nail"

I measured and made holes on the end points of the metal bar. I raised it up, inserted a nail on the holes and hammered the tip of the nail up. I think I am done but I am not quite sure.
It tried kicking it, it was sturdy, I tried shaking it, it doesn't budge.
"Time to test my engineering skills"
I held on the handle bar and hang myself, nothing seems wrong. I started pulling myself up.

I can't believe it, it is working. I looked at Jayden, making different sizes of dumbbells resting on the floor, but the cements aren't dried yet.
"Hey, Jayden, come try this out. You are heavier than me"

Jayden hang on and started pulling himself up. No flaws. Jayden jumped off after doing 12.
"Well, kinda working" he looked at his dumbbells "But that's gonna take a long time to dry. I'll just target chests with push ups and back with the pull up today. What about you?"
"I am feeling all out calisthenics, you know"
"Whatever you want to do. Let's stretch"
Workout was my thing, calisthenics. But with constant lose of motivation, I can't get my body big. I was serious, then I am not. I am not busy, not lazy, but no motivation
Mostly my food are vegetables and barely meat. Eggs but sometimes.
