Chapter 2:

Dinner at Ryokoma

En Passant Grandmaster Volume 5

As the sun began to set, Mimoko followed Daria as they headed to their destination. Decked out in a blue sleeveless dress and her trademark Mizuse Niimi brand white sneakers, it was clear she was heading somewhere fancy. She had even decided to sport her hair in drill tails just this once as even she had to admit, they paired well with the outfit. Daria, meanwhile, was in her standard maestro attire complete with makeup.

"Where exactly are we going?" Mimoko asked.

"It's a surprise, but I'm sure you'll love it. I hear the food is great there."

"I know it's a dinner place, but is it a restaurant in a hotel?"

"Think they have a hotel there, so yes?"

"Huh? What do you-"

But Mimoko instantly got her answer as she and Daria arrived at a large mall-like structure connected to a large dome at Tokyo Bay.

"This here is Tokyo Bay's famous mall/restaurant/hotel and resort, Ryokoma!" Daria cheered as she motioned towards the large glowing "Ryokoma" on the building's side.

Ryokoma was a famous restaurant originally founded by top chefs, Rika Komachi and Masaru Ryono on April 12th, 2016. Back then, it was just a restaurant built on the remains of an abandoned mall, but today it was a full-blown mall and entertainment center. There was even a hotel and indoor waterpark, and combined with the affordable prices, was THE premier resort in Tokyo. The main reason for it's rise was both due to Rika's ambition to make the place the best restaurant in the world, and all the loyal patrons who had supported the place and allowed it to grow.

"Ryokoma? Why didn't you say so? I've heard great things about this place, but never had the chance to come here proper before," Mimoko gasped.

"That's why it was a surprise. And best of all, you might be able to come here far more frequently if we get the secret puzzle cafe up and get tournaments going here," Daria giggled.

As the two entered the restaurant, they were greeted by a young boy with orange hair. "Hey welcome in? Dining for 2? Any preference for seating?"

"A reservation for "Himitsu"," Daria smiled.

The body nodded and began leaping through the air over to a table in the back.

"That kid's flying through the sky! Does this place use some kind of high tech wire system!?" Mimoko thought as she walked with Daria to the table.

"So first time here?" the boy asked.

"Yes, we're from the neighboring prefecture. Is the owner around?"

"Eh, I'll see. But we got LOADS of stuff on the menu so take your time looking. That electric menu will automatically send your order to the kitchen when you're ready."

The boy hopped away leaving Daria and Mimoko alone.

"Hmm, I guess I'll go for the typical strawberry parfait," Mimoko shrugged.

"The fire-crackin' crackers n' chicken look good. Guess that's my meal."

"More crackers?"

"Still traumatized from your loss to the Sodium Attack a few days ago?"

"No, but thanks to your story, I'm starting to associate crackers with the opening. Well, at least you were the one I lost to. Though who was it that told you about that handyman's weakness anyway?"

"That's why chess is normally a quiet sport. But it was on you for listening instead of playing and listening."

Daria's eyes narrowed as her smile grew bigger. "Well, guess I'll give ya credit for listening well. I heard it directly from the first person to ever beat me."

"The maestro you claimed was the only one stronger than you?"

"That's right. He really won it all when he beat me," Daria blushed.

Mimoko shook her head and stared at the menu tablet. While her curiosity about this mysterious maestro was peaked, seeing her mother blushing and acting lovey-dovey really ruined the mood for her. She decided to play chess to pass the time until the food came, but to her surprise though, the tablets didn't have any chess software on them. Thus, she decided to pull out he WWCF card and do puzzles to pass the time.

Eventually, the food was brought out by a woman with orange hair with green highlights. "You're the Himitsu party of two, right? Here's your food."

The woman stayed and watched as Mimoko and Daria took a bite. Both immediately enjoyed the taste and finished their meals in seconds.

"Wow, to think there was such good food only a train ride away," Daria chuckled.

"You're right. My friends at school have told me how good this place is, now I can see why," Mimoko nodded.

"So now that you're full, allow me to introduce myself. I'm Rika Ryono, one of the owners here," the woman stated.

"Ah perfect. I'm Maestro Himitsu. I was the one that requested a business meeting with you."

"Oh right! Sorry I didn't greet you earlier. We were at peak hours so Toga was likely on waiter duty."

"That boy that was flying around?" Mimoko asked.

"Yup, my first-born. Never thought he'd be flying around so much. Should've named him, "Saru", right? Well, he's nimble and skilled, so you'll get used to him flying around. So anyway, what do you wanna talk about?"

Daria smiled and rose. "I would like to discus setting up a secret puzzle cafe here..."

=As soon as  Daria finished explaining everything to Rika, Rika scowled and went deep into thought. "Hmm, no clue on how to play chess... But the concept sounds fun, so we'll give it a go."

"In that case, I'll call over the president of the WWCF."
