Chapter 7:
LOOKING, but not SEEING
“I said it at the start too, but that photo—well, actually… it’s the one I took and uploaded when I came here for the first time.”
Yuka revealed this near the end of the stream, laughing as she did.
“Back then I didn’t have many followers, so nobody paid any attention to it…
I never thought it would turn into something like this now.
I did make some new discoveries, though. Well, whatever!”
Contrary to that lighthearted tone, the paranormal community fell into total chaos starting the very next day.
The once self-assured psychic practitioners were one after another slapped with the label of “self-proclaimed,” deleting their videos, halting updates—and in quite a few cases, even taking their entire channels down.
There were also successive cases that escalated into refund disputes over the merchandise they had been selling, and even into lawsuits.
Just a single photograph.
A single remark from the person who took it.
And a blunt, offhand explanation from the one who appeared in it.
That alone completely reshaped the balance of power within the paranormal community.
It wasn’t just a handful of figures who had made a name for themselves through streaming that vanished.
Those who usually kept things lively with a joking, unserious vibe were largely unaffected, but streamers who had made “psychic ability” their selling point disappeared without exception.
From obscure corners of the internet to channels considered major players—across the board.
This series of events would later come to be etched into the internet’s dark history under the name the Legendary Paranormal Photo Uproar.
There were, in fact, a few voices that pointed out, “These two are ghosts.”
But they were drowned out by the majority, and before long, they were forgotten.
Perhaps this was how it was always destined to end.
And so, through this uproar, the two ghosts came to have their faces and names widely known.
But in the end, that was nothing more than a matter within the narrow paranormal community.
No matter how that community might change, they don’t concern themselves with it.
Today as well, just as always, they continue to live leisurely and happily.
