Chapter 701:

An exhibition match [Season 11 Intro]

En Passant Grandmaster

At her home, Hagemi turned on the TV to be greeted with a broadcast of an exhibition chess match. The participants? Jochi and Ryonosuke.

Jochi opened the game by moving his knight to f3, while Ryonosuke responded by moving his knight to f6.

"Hoh? You're going for a mirror? Too bad, bone bag, now I can show you why Mongolia was FEARED! Time to conquer Japan!" Jochi thought as he slammed his knight down on d4.

"The Mongolian Attack... I figured you'd try something like that, which is why I goaded you into this. Now how about I begin a schooling for you," Ryonosuke thought as he moved his pawn to e5.

Jochi retreated his knight to b3, but Ryonosuke engaged in hot pursuit by moving his pawn to a5. In response, Jochi vaulted his pawn to d4, setting up a knight trade.

"Aggressive. Seems the boy failed to study his history, or opening," Ryonosuke thought as he moved his pawn to a4.

As expected, Jochi captured the knight at e5 with his d-pawn, while across the board, Ryonosuke did likewise by capturing the knight at b3 with his a-pawn. Then came a bold and aggressive play from Ryonosuke in the form of rook captures a2, surprising Jochi.

"Huh? You're swinging for me? I got more reach and muscle, old man," Jochi thought as he moved his queen to d5.

"Brutish. There's no order to this at all. The game has been won so long as I don't lose my edge," Ryonosuke thought as he captured the rook at a1 with his rook.

"Oi, bone bag, you think you can stand up to me? I'm a leader in the next chapter of Mongol domination. Check," Jochi snarled as he moved his queen to e4.

All the move was though was bluster as with a simple nudge of the bishop to e7, Ryonosuke was still well in the winner's seat. Jochi furiously captured the pawn at g7 with his f-pawn, but the aggression was sidestepped easily with rook g8, or so it seemed.

"Hah! Now I got your rook, and the edge!" Jochi thought as he captured the pawn at h7 with his queen.

"Oh? So you continue the warpath. Then have your bone, mad dog," Ryonosuke thought as he captured the pawn at g7 with his rook.

Jochi giddily captured said rook with his queen as Ryonosuke moved his pawn to d5 without a care. "Check! You'll be the first to get conquered, bone bag!" he cackled as he moved his queen to h8.

Ryonosuke scowled and held up his finger as he moved his bishop to f8.

"Huh? What's that for?" Jochi thought as he scowled and moved his bishop to h6.

"Ah, that was a sign to tell you to wait. See we can only speak while giving a check, so I needed to wait until this moment to properly refute you. 'Bone bag' you say? Rude and brutish, says I. Primitive too. Check," Ryonosuke scoffed as he captured the knight at b1 with his rook.

Blood vessels began to burst on Jochi's head as he moved his king to d1. "Oi... WHO DO YOU THINK YOU'RE TALKIN' TO!?" he roared.

Arbiters wearily glanced over yet decided not to mess with things, preferring to just sit on the sidelines and watch the game play out.

"My assessment stands," Ryonosuke thought as he moved his knight to d7.

After a quick commercial break, coverage of the game resumed with Jochi deciding to initiate a trade on f8, starting by capturing the bishop there with his bishop. Said bishop was promptly swept up by Ryonosuke's knight, prompting Jochi to change plans and move his queen out from enemy lines to d4. Ryonosuke gave pursuit with pawn to c5, sending Jochi's queen to c3. However, a push of the pawn to d4 allowed Jochi to escape the pursuit by capturing the pawn at c5 with his queen.

"Attraction at its finest. Now how much more will you make me labor for this win?" Ryonosuke thought as he scowled and captured the pawn at b2 with his rook.

"Oi, what's with that look for, bone bag? You're all getting wiped out by the New Empire of Mongolia! Check!" Jochi fumed as he slammed his queen down on b5.

Ryonosuke refused to make eye contact as he moved his bishop to d7 in annoyance.

"OI! Don't you dare look away! CHECK!" Jochi fumed once more as he slammed his queen down on e5.

"Ah, how I can't wait to refute him," Ryonosuke thought as he moved his bishop to e6.

And after Jochi moved his pawn to e4, he got said chance.

"Check. Ah, you're nothing but a primitive beast. Words will not stick with you," Ryonosuke scoffed as he captured the pawn at c2 with his rook.

Jochi seethed with fury at both the insult and the fact that he couldn't capture the rook, slowly sliding his king to d1 as he grinded his teeth together. Ryonosuke on the other hand calmly slid his queen to a8. Aggression once more got the better of Jochi as he took out the pawn at d4 with his queen, allowing Ryonosuke to advance his queen to a3. With little choice, Jochi moved his king to e1, allowing queen c1, check, forcing queen a8.

And thus the mate was set in motion as Ryonosuke advanced his pawn to b2. Jochi gave one more desperate check in the form of bishop b5, but bishop d7 ended the threat and aggression as Jochi was now forced to retreat his bishop to e2 for survival as thanks to his pawn reaching b1, Ryonosuke had a new queen on the board. All Jochi could do now was roar in frustration as he lunged his pawn to f4.

"Primitive to the end. Check," Ryonosuke scoffed as he captured the queen at d1 with his queen.

Jochi instantly captured said queen with his bishop, but after Ryonosuke moved his bishop to b5, all he could do was move his pawn to g4.

"And thus, you've been schooled in the art of chess. Oh, and for history, Mongolia never managed to besiege Japan ever. Checkmate," Ryonosuke huffed as he moved his queen to e4, winning the game.
