Chapter 18:

Captured

Dark Fables of Void V2 — Quantum Mix

The agent and his men took the three girls deeper into the base, the stocky soldiers effortlessly carrying each of them with blank expressions underneath high-tech helmets.
Rachel struggled against the agent's grip, her voice filled with defiance. "Hey, let go of me! You're hurting me!"
The agent's expression remained stoic, his grip unrelenting against Rachel's petite frame. "Stop struggling. You're only making things harder for yourself.”
Kairy squirmed in the other soldier's grip, her voice filled with frustration. "Where are you taking us?! We've done nothing wrong!"
The soldier's grip tightened around her arms, his voice remaining emotionless. "Quiet. You'll find out soon enough.”
Kinsey remained defiantly calm, her gaze fixed on the agent carrying her. "You have no right to arrest us. We've done nothing illegal."
The agent scoffed, his expression stoic. "We have our own laws and systems, kid. And you just hacked into our system. That's a serious enough crime to warrant detainment.”
Kinsey rolled her eyes, the defiance still evident. "Oh, please. I was just trying to stabilize your faulty system. You should be thanking me, not arresting me.”
The agent's grip tightened, his expression firm. "Regardless, you had no right to interfere with our system. Your intentions are irrelevant. You're coming with us, whether you like it or not.”
Rachel's defiance still simmered. "You can't do this! This is kidnapping!"
The soldier carrying her maintained his grip, his voice emotionless. "We can and we are. You've compromised a highly secured system and need to be brought in for questioning. It's standard protocol.”
Kairy tried to reason with the agent, her voice tinged with desperation. "Can't you just release us? We won't do anything like this again, I promise."
The soldier remained stoic, the expression beneath his helmet unreadable. "Sorry, that's not an option. You've already breached protocol. Our superiors will decide your fate.”
Kairy's voice rose, her frustration rising. "We're not just some rebellious teenagers! We may be young, but that doesn't make us stupid."
The soldier remained unfazed by Kairy's words. "Young and foolish, more like it. Now stay quiet."
The three girls were led to the deepest part of the base, a well-lit neon fortress full of classified technology that never touched a ray of sunlight.
Kinsey looked around, taking in the surroundings. Despite the situation, she was momentarily distracted by the high-tech environment.
"Damn... This place is like a damn sci-fi movie..." she muttered.
The agent gave her a sidelong glance, a hint of annoyance in his voice. "Save your awe for later. You're not here for a tour.”
The girls were led past various high-tech training rooms, filled with soldiers in black tactical gear.
Rachel's eyes widened, taking in the sights. "Holy crap, these guys are like a private army or something..."
The agent gave her a sidelong glance, his eyes scanning her. "Something like that. Our organization is well-equipped and well-trained.”
Kairy couldn't help but notice the intense training sessions, the heavily armed soldiers locked into simulation combat exercises.
"Wow, these guys are hardcore..." she muttered under her breath.
The agent heard her, responding with a slight hint of arrogance. "Only the best are selected for the Platinum Army. We don't tolerate weakness.”
Kinsey's gaze was drawn to the high-tech training equipment, the state-of-the-art simulators, and the advanced combat simulations.
"Impressive tech you've got here," she murmured, a hint of admiration in her voice.
The agent caught her admiration, his response laced with a touch of arrogance. "Our technological capabilities are unmatched. We spare no expense in providing the best for our soldiers.”
Kinsey couldn't help but find herself intrigued by the mysterious entities. Her curiosity piqued despite the circumstances.
"Classified research, huh?" she responded. "What kind of creatures are you keeping here?"
The agent's voice held a hint of superiority. "That information is strictly classified. Rest assured, they're being contained for a reason. These aren't your average lab experiments.”
Rachel's eyes widened, a mix of fascination and unease coursing through her.
"I'll say. Some of these things look straight out of a sci-fi nightmare..." she muttered.
The agent observed her reaction, a hint of condescension in his tone. "They're not meant to be pleasant, kid. They're powerful anomalies that need to be kept contained."
"At what cost?”
The agent's expression hardened at her question."At any cost necessary. These anomalies pose a threat to humanity. Sometimes sacrifices must be made for the greater good.”
Kinsey scoffed softly, her skepticism evident."And who decides what constitutes 'the greater good', huh? You think you can play god just because you've got the firepower?”
The agent's irritation grew, his response sharp."It's not about playing god, it's about safeguarding humanity. We're doing what needs to be done to protect society. We have experts and committees who make those decisions."
The agent led them to several seats, gesturing to them. "Sit down now. Our boss will be speaking to you shortly.”
The girls hesitantly sat down, their hands and feet still restrained.
Rachel's voice betrayed her anxiety. "Who's this 'boss' you're talking about?"
The agent stood by, his expression stoic. "You'll find out soon enough. Just sit tight and wait.”
Kinsey's eyes scanned the room, her mind still contemplating their predicament.
"So we're just gonna be stuck here like this, waiting for some mystery boss? Great..."
The agent replied with a hint of condescension. "Complain all you want. You're not going anywhere for now.”
Rachel fidgeted in her seat, her restlessness evident.
"This is so unfair. We didn't even do anything wrong..." she muttered under her breath.
The agent responded coldly. "You hacked into our system. That classifies as doing something wrong.”
Kairy's voice trembled slightly with frustration.
"But we were just trying to stabilize the mech! We didn't mean any harm."
The agent's response was brusque. "Your intentions are irrelevant. Rules were broken, and consequences must be faced."
Just then, the massive screen above them flicked on, and on it was a display of an incoming call. The name of the caller? 'Катюша'.
The girls looked up at the screen in surprise, their curiosity piqued.
Kinsey's brows furrowed, her skepticism evident. "Who's calling?"
The agent responded coolly, his gaze fixed on the screen. "That would be the boss.”
The girls exchanged anxious looks, their anticipation building.
Kairy swallowed, her voice a mix of excitement and anxiety. "Seriously? We're actually gonna talk to the head honcho?"
The agent's tone was dismissive. "Don't get too excited. The boss just wants to have a word with you "rebellious" youngsters.”
Rachel huffed, her irritation resurfacing.
"Well, I hope he appreciates our 'rebellious' intelligence."
The agent rolled his eyes, scoffing softly. "Yeah, yeah, just behave yourselves. SHE doesn't like smart asses.”
At the mention of a "she," Rachel's curiosity heightened even more.
"Wait a minute, did you just say 'she'? The boss is a woman?"
The agent nodded nonchalantly. "That's right. And I'd recommend you all behave properly when speaking with her.”
Kairy's interest perked up.
"A female boss, huh? Not what I was expecting."
The agent shrugged, his expression stoic. "Looks can be deceiving. The boss may be a woman, but she means business. You'll see for yourself when we answer this call."
And they did, putting their boss on the line...
