Chapter 713:
En Passant Grandmaster
At the chess center in Kawaguchi, Mimoko decided to challenge Mizuse's AI bot to a match.
"Now let's see how you fare against peak femininity at full strength," Mizuse chuckled before opening the game by moving her pawn to d4.
Mimoko smiled back and nodded as she moved her pawn to d5.
"Ah, but how will you handle the "queen of all gambits"?" Mizuse smiled as she moved her pawn to c4.
The answer... was pawn c6, the Slav Defense.
"Oh ho? Care to rock an Adidas tracksuit with those fine sneakers of yours?" Mizuse laughed as she smiled and moved her knight to c3.
"I know my fashion, thanks to you," Mimoko smiled as she captured the pawn at c4 with her d-pawn.
"Ara, you are good. Let's try getting a little wild," Mizuse smirked before moving her bishop to f4.
"Bold, but bald is bold," Mimoko smirked and moved her knight to f6.
Mizuse couldn't help but chuckle as she moved her pawn to e4. "I'll give you a chance. Spot it, and I'm in for a rough ride. Don't, and I might regain the slight edge," she smiled as she formed a pyramid with her hands.
She wouldn't be sitting idle for long as Mimoko instantly found pawn b5.
"Rough riding it is. Reminds me when I played Bella Badbitch and had to stay bound and gagged as they rocked the boat over a large pool of water," Mizuse mused as she moved her knight to f3.
And thus began a journey into bumpy waters. E6, a3, a5, bishop e2, bishop b7, it was a rough line, but still salvageable. Mizuse continued with a king's side castle as Mimoko moved her bishop to e7, refusing to give Mizuse a second to breath.
"Ahaha, energetic," Mizuse chuckled as she moved her pawn to b3, while Mimoko moved her pawn to b4.
A trade at b4 kicked off by Mizuse capturing the pawn there with her a-pawn and Mimoko returning the favor by capturing said pawn with her a-pawn. But in the process, that left the a-file wide open.
"Not sure if you've heard of Pustono ludo i mlado, but thanks to my friend, Radina, I know it's about being wild and young, and wild is young is what you're in for. Can you handle it?" Mizuse grinned as she captured the rook at a8 with her rook.
Mimoko's eyes bulged as she stared at the play. "Mizuse-sama... She must not have seen it," she thought as she smiled, waved her finger, and captured the rook at a8 with her bishop.
Now it was Mizuse's turn to be shocked. "Ah, I didn't see that bishop there. It blended in like a pawn. Ahaha, I might be in trouble," she nervously smiled as she moved her knight to a4.
Indeed she was in trouble as Mimoko mercilessly pounced on her by moving her pawn to c3.
"Ee, not good. That pawn's gonna be trouble," Mizuse frowned as she moved her knight to c5.
Despite Mimoko's edge, the game was far from over. B-knight d7 setting up knight captures d7 from both players before queen d3 and a king's side castle, yet no mate in sight. Of course, Mimoko could tell she was winning and was fully prepared for however long the grind would be. When she had a winning position, she'd never blunder it or settle for a draw. H3, knight f6, queen e3, c5, d captures c5, knight captures e4, rook d1, bishop d5, c6, bishop c5, knight d4, queen f6, Mimoko was slowly wearing Mizuse down.
"What a mess, but us SPCMs don't resign. There's true beauty in a full game on the board free from resignation or agreed to draws. Not like the latter's allowed at this particular tournament, but still. I like decisive games," Mizuse smiled as she moved her bishop to c4.
"You're tough, Mizuse-sama. However, I admire your resolve to fight it out," Mimoko smiled back as she moved her pawn to c2.
"I knew that pawn would be trouble," Mizuse chuckled as she moved her rook to d3.
"It's like a puzzle. Hmm, I think it's best to start with the knight," Mimoko nodded as she kicked off the blood bath on the board by capturing the pawn at f2 with her knight.
"Oh? f2 before c4? Not like the difference really matters," Mizuse chuckled as she captured the knight at f2 with her queen.
Then as expected, Mimoko captured the bishop at c4 with her bishop, allowing it to fall to Mizuse's b-pawn. She then moved her pawn to e5, allowing Mizuse the chance to finally be rid of that pesky pawn at c2 by capturing it with her queen. However, that allowed Mimoko to snag a bigger prize with her queen, the bishop at f4.
"That pawn really was my bane this game," Mizuse sighed as she moved her queen to d1.
The ires continued as Mimoko captured the knight at d4 with her e-pawn, putting her up a bishop and a pawn. Now all that was left was to trade off the rook and queen and convert the win. Queen e1, queen c7, queen e4, rook c8, king f1, then queen captures c6, but Mizuse refused to give up her queen without first repositioning it at d5. Queen captures d5 and c captures d5 ensured, but the end goal was still far from sight as Mimoko moved her bishop to e6 and Mizuse moved her king to e2.
"Check. Wouldn't it be something if this is the only check in the game, aside from mate of course?" Mimoko smiled as she moved her rook to c2.
"That would be true beauty in a sense," Mizuse replied as she moved her king to f1.
"Hmm, I think I can make it work," Mimoko thought as she moved her king to f8.
"Oh? Going for something? Well, maybe I'll humor you. I'm already losing, so might as well try humoring you in hopes of a blunder... which I doubt will ever come from you," Mizuse smiled as she moved her pawn to g4.
And thus the game entered its final phase. Bishop c5, d6, king e8, king e1, king d7, king d1, rook c3, and finally the rooks could be traded off, initiated by Mizuse capturing the rook at c3 with her rook, and Mimoko following up by capturing said rook with her d-pawn. Now not only were the rooks off the board, mate was also in sight. King c2, g5, king b3, king captures d6, king c2, king d5, king c1, king c4, mate was getting closer and closer.
"Hmm, I go king c2, b3, check... Let's go out gracefully," Mizuse thought as she moved her pawn to h4, allowing Mimoko to advance towards mate without the need for another check.
King d3, king b1, b3, king c1, bishop d4, but then another crossroads, yet Mizuse was committed to not allowing another check before mate and captured the pawn at g5 with her h-pawn. And thus, a beautiful mate was achieved. First came pawn c2 from Mimoko, forcing pawn g6, and then, pawn b2...
"Checkmate. You really were a good sport for allowing such a beautiful mate to play out," Mimoko smiled
"Well, if I'm going to lose, might as well do it gracefully," Mizuse chuckled.
"If only you were the real deal," Mimoko sighed as she gazed up at the sky.
