Chapter 3:
A World Without You...
What is taking that idiot so long?
I was slowly losing my patience, as I couldn't focus on studying anymore.
It's been almost twenty minutes, and he still isn't here!
Deciding that enough was enough, I got up from the bench and walked towards the entrance.
"*sniff*"
Before I could enter the building, I heard a noise of someone sobbing that was coming from a nearby open window.
"Everything's fine."
My whole body froze, as I recognised the voice.
I-Is that Kojima?!
Peeking through the window, my eyes couldn't believe what they were seeing. Kojima was hugging Hanako Haruka from class 2-B.
W-Why is he hugging her?!
"I-I'm okay now."
Seemingly done with her crying, Kojima lets go of her.
"I know it's probably not my place to say this, but you have to be more independent. Even if people have a crush on you, they'll move on with time."
"I know that I have to be more independent, but time doesn't heal wounds for some people!"
What are they talking about? Did someone get rejected?
"You're right... But you can't love someone you don't love. It's just how life works."
Haruka seemed to have been moved by his words, as she looked at Kojima with a weird expression.
Why is he suddenly being thoughtful of someone?! What happened to his usual trashy attitude?!
"Hey, do you maybe know Haruto Kobayashi from 2-B?"
For some odd reason, Kojima decided to talk about the blue-haired failure.
Haruka nodded with her cute smile.
"Yes, he's in my class."
"For real?!"
Haruka lightly nodded, while slightly giggling.
A stinging feeling erupted in my heart.
D-Did he ditch me to spend some time with Haruka...? Wait, why am I even bothered!? That idiot can screw himself!
"That bastard didn't tell me a thing about his class! Well, did you know that he is the star of our school's basketball club?"
"Yeah, I did."
"And you don't find anything wrong with that?!"
Haruka was laughing at his stupid jokes.
Seeing them happily chatting, my mood somehow dropped.
He's smilling. She made him smile...
Gripping the hem of my skirt, I gritted my teeth.
W-What does it mean to me?! I didn't need him in the first place! If he so badly wants to be with her, then fine!
"W-What were you doing on the staircase?"
Breaking my train of thought, Haruka suddenly spoke up.
"Well, I was going to meet up with someone."
"Who?"
"You know Michiko Takahashi?"
H-He's bringing me up...
An odd sense of appreciation came over me.
What is he going to say about me?
"I-I heard that she's like a demon!"
"Well... You could probably say that."
.....
Hearing their light-hearted laughter actually broke me... I could feel tears welling up in my eyes.
D-Demon...
"Hah, you're not close to a girl! You're more like a demon."
My heart felt like it could burst into a thousand pieces. Gritting my teeth even harder, I ran through the courtyard, quickly grabbed my bag, and continued to run down the street.
Scumbag! Scumbag! Scumbag! Scumbag! Scumbag! Scumbag! Scumbag! Scumbag!
Even though people were giving me worried looks, I still ran. I just wanted to get as far away as possible from that scum. Once I got home, I took off my shoes, and ran upstairs into my bedroom.
I-I thought that he was different...
Feeling as if I lost all my power, my body collapsed onto my bed.
S-Sure, he insults me, but he isn't intimidated by my presence.
Not being able to hold back anymore, I let the tears roll down my eyes.
T-This is unbelievable! H-He made me cry...
"Michiko! What is happening?! Is everything alright?"
The voice of my father came through the door, making me immediately stop crying.
"H-Huh, everything's fine, dad! W-What are you talking about?"
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah, absolutely!"
Clearly still hesitant, he slowly walked down the stairs, until he couldn't be heard anymore.
Breathing a sigh of relief, I collapsed back onto the bed, and just as I was about to start cursing him...
*ring*
*ring*
Picking up my phone, I was relieved to see who was calling.
"Miura, what's up?"
"Hey Michiko, are you busy right now?"
"No... Why?"
"My parents won a mini fridge full of ice cream in a raffle, so I was wondering if you could come by and help us?"
Hearing the absurdity of her situation, I faintly smiled.
"Alright, but could I talk with you about something first?"
"Fine... I'm all ears."
"You see... I have a friend that is a girl, and she's friends with a clinical boy. They fight similarly like Kojima and I, but she recently discovered that the boy was actually mocking her with another girl. What should she do?"
Miura seemed to take her time before giving me a response.
"Hmm... If I was in that girls place, I wouldn't even be friends with a clinical boy."
"I know that, but what should she do?"
"I don't know, girl. It all depends if she wants to continue being friends with him, or not."
Something seemed to click inside of my mind.
T-That's a hard question...
"And what if she doesn't know?"
"Then I can't help her! If she's that indecisive, it's better if you leave her alone. That way, she can sort trough her own emotions."
I would have never exppected an advice so mature from Miura...
"Wow... Maybe you're right..."
"Alright, enough of this sappy stuff. I expect to see you in a bit!"
Miura hanged up before I could say anything, leaving me with a hard task.
Sort through my emotions...
My head started to hurt after trying to decide how I feel abiut Kojima.
I should probably try this some other time!
Gathering enough energy to get out of bed, I walked towards the wardrobe, changed into my casual clothes, and grabbed my purse before exiting my room.
"Dad, I'll be going over to Miura's!"
"Alright, sweetheart. Have a good time!"
"I will!"
Walking out of the house, the fresh afternoon air helped me clear my head a little.
Ah, I can finally breath.
