Not knowing what had happened, suddenly the barrier which had been prepared to help contain the horses exploded, bringing everyone the chaos of being caught off guard.
The knights used the armor as a disguise so that they would not notice the wizard hiding among them, as this was not a common tactic within the human exercises, nobody thought that such a thing would be possible.
But thanks to the flames of the barrier it seems that not all the horses managed to get through, while those that did split in several directions avoiding going over the elven warriors.
“Everyone, run, and attack, don't stand still if you want to live! General Hilda, may I ask to take care of the inconvenience?” The king ordered the soldiers who shouted and began to run, then turned to Hilda who nodded in agreement.
With the chaos of battle spreading unusually, the daemon had to find just one mage that could be the biggest problem, though it wasn’t too difficult, at least not as hard as she thought.
Along with two other knights, the magician began to release several balls of fire in the trees, they intended to set fire to everything, if they couldn't kill the elves, the fire would. Flying, Hilda was the target of some arrows but dodged as if it were nothing, passing them, the absent-minded mage was confident that the knights surrounding him would be enough to deflect or prevent any attack, but a daemon with a drawn sword proved the opposite.
From above, an unprotected point, it was the perfect gap for Hilda to fall, swinging the sword towards the mage, who didn't even see how he was hit, only felt his life slipping away as the sword passed through the armor.
Caught off guard, the knights spotted the enemy attack too late, so when they turned to try to hit Hilda, more than 5 arrows broke through the protection of their armor, the ones hit.
While the dark elves fought bravely on the ground, those who hid, suddenly started attacking relentlessly giving a big advantage, especially now that the mage was dead, the next step was the enemy archers.
Having been protected by arrows, Hilda endeavored to help the other elves who were fighting hand to hand, seeing that there were still soldiers using horses, she put away her sword and took a spear from the ground.
Flying, she wanted to take down as many enemies as possible, so she swung her spear towards a soldier using a sword, who didn't even see the blow coming, only got cut by the long weapon's blade.
Drawing the attention of three soldiers, Hilda saw one of the archers, aiming at her, being hit squarely by a black arrow, on top of one of the treehouses, Gileon was supporting her.
Focusing on the two that were left, the two realized that even flying Hilda could still be hit, so they made their horses run as fast as they could.
Changing the way of holding her weapon, Hilda threw the spear that hit the chest of one of the soldiers, the other was coming, she took the sword and defended the blow, making the enemy open their guard for a few moments, to be hit by Hilda's sword, making him fall dead to the ground.
"General Hilda, no matter how we look at the situation, it seems that the number of enemies is less than reported."
The one who spoke was the King of the dark elves, when he killed one of the humans who confronted him, he couldn't help but be annoyed by the fact that there were fewer soldiers than expected.
"What do you suggest, sir?"
Hilda went down falling on top of a soldier who had been knocked off his horse, her sword piercing his chest.
"We don't have time to wait for the fight to end, please go check our suspicions." Suggested the king, looking at Hilda, the dark elves that fled were the true hope of the race to continue, if something happened to them it could be the end of everything.
"Okay, if Satoru comes back, tell him to run there."
Hilda did not wait for an answer from the king, flapping her wings, they were the fastest of all there, precisely because they could fly. Dodging the trees, it hadn't been that long since they had left, especially with so many people, they would hardly be that far away, it didn't take long for Hilda to spot her objective, not wanting to get too close.
Seeing no sign of enemies, she backed off a little, she had to confirm, so she tried to go around to the right side, looking for any sign of knights, wandering a little, her theory proved to be correct, unfortunately.
The enemies had split, there were 20 soldiers there, they also looked lost, but if they knew there was going to be an escape attempt, so they started circling the city without entering, they were right on the edge of the illusion barrier, which was weird. they even know that.
Knowing that if they waited any longer, they could find the dark elves soon, Hilda had to take action, even if it wasn't the best.
Analyzing the position of each, she saw four spearmen leading the way, 15 soldiers with swords in the middle, behind everyone else, five archers and finally with the spearmen, a soldier whose armor stood out, with Hilda's experience, she knew that that was the leader of this whole operation.
He wanted to put an end to the dark elves, which was bad for the defending side, if Satoru goes down away even in the leader, it would help to demotivate the enemy army, but as he was right there in front of Hilda, maybe it would be possible if she took his head.
The horses had a space between them, it would be difficult to catch them all at once, so she would have to make the most of the advantages she had, it was quite difficult to have a hidden magician like before, so she didn't worry.
With the sword in hand, Hilda went at full speed towards the soldiers who could only see a figure, hitting them, two archers had been killed by a sword without even knowing what hit them.
In shock with what had just happened, the soldiers split and began to look around, when they saw, a large shadow was flying, as they looked better, they saw a daemon rise above the trees.
"Don't just watch, idiots, shoot!"
The order was given by Ross, who shouted causing the soldiers to come out of their stupor, the archers then started firing in the direction they had last seen Hilda.
By the time they saw her arrows fell to the ground, she was gone, because the trees were dense and plentiful, Hilda just needed to hide for a while and change position.
The soldiers then changed their formation and opened a circle, making the archers stay in the middle, if anything tried to enter the formation they would have to pass through spears and swords.
Unable to wait any longer, Hilda attacked again, this time she was right in the middle of the formation, the spearmen this time ready, aiming their weapons, and the archers darting towards her.
To avoid the multiple attacks, her wings beating, Hilda changed her trajectory making the arrows pass straight, the spears did not reach her, which without the soldiers understood, went towards the corpse of one of the soldiers and stole his bow along with an arrow.
Then it flew to the top of the trees again, which caused the wrath of Ross who did not understand Daemon's plan, but as he tried to understand what was going on, it went down and landed in front of everyone, throwing the bow to the ground.
Unable to understand, the captain pushed these thoughts aside, though something didn't feel right, he raised his sword and the spearmen stepped in front of all the other soldiers, and with their guns pointed forward, they sprinted toward Hilda.
That she waited for them to arrive and climbed as high as she could over the top and ended up behind some who couldn't dodge and received the blade of her sword in their back.
Feeling something tearing at his skin, the soldier would perhaps be more grateful that his armor had prevented the attack from going deeper if he didn't feel the rip burn his back accompanied by an abnormal pain.
Trying to turn in time, another spearman could do nothing when he saw the blade cross his neck and his life instantly taken. Pulling back as far as she could, Hilda swung her sword at another soldier's face, not to cut it, but to let the blood flow through the eye-opening in the helmet, making him blind, and being distracted, to have the sword blade slash his neck as well as his companion's.
With that two spearmen had been killed by the daemon, which had escaped another hail of arrows, and had walked away as it hid among the trees.
Just seeing the drop number increase, a vein started popping in Ross's head, she was just an enemy, but she managed to be so skillful.
Uncomprehending, the other soldiers were stunned when they saw Ross get off his horse, picking up his spear that was stowed in the side of the cell. Everyone stopped to look and made way for their superior who walked a few meters from Hilda.
Hitting the spear on the ground, he followed Hilda's movements only with his eyes, when he finally saw where she would go next, he raised his hand and from it, several small rays began to accumulate and soon after a larger lightning bolt was fired in the direction of the enemy.
Seeing that the enemy leader was up to something, Hilda was on the alert, but when she saw the magic itself, her brow furrowed, he was also a magic-user, mostly being unknown magic.
Doing what she could, she tried to dodge the abrupt blow caused by the lightning, but before she had dodged with her whole body a part of her back was hit, more specifically one of her wings, which made her fall to the ground.
Rolling across the floor, she writhed in pain, a daemon's wings were sensitive areas of their bodies, for her to have a hole even small open, the pain was immense, not to mention the fact that the lightning not only hurt but also burned.
Enduring the pain as long as she could, she rose and raised her sword, keeping her guard up. However, something felt strange, Ross was sweating, and he was panting a lot, it might seem too sudden, but Hilda had seen it before, surely that magic must have done more damage than it did.
Knowing that flying now would be more difficult, sword in hand, Hilda braced for the inevitable confrontation, while all the other soldiers didn't seem to know what to do, Ross slammed the spear to the ground again.
"Keep moving forward, I'll take care of that snag, everything else keeps moving forward." Upon receiving the order, the soldiers began to organize themselves to continue on their way, even though they do not know exactly if they will find something.
Seeing this, Hilda had to be quick, so she picked up momentum and ran towards the human enemy, who swung the spear and used it to parry the sword that would come towards her.
Jumping back after having his attack blocked, trying to think of how to attack next, Ross tiredly didn't seem to want to give her time and lunged toward her.
Seeing the tip of the spear approach, Hilda moved her sword to collide head-on with the enemy's attack, thus causing the spear to tremble and the thrust to recoil.
Running up to Ross, Hilda began a series of attacks one after another, which made the sound of clashing metals echo throughout the forest.
As each of the two struggled toe-to-toe, a sudden thing happened, his ears began to ache as a shrill sound echoed as if it had been from their side.
Feeling their ears hurt, they had never heard anything like it, the high-pitched sound, seemed something incomprehensible, but it caused a strangeness inside them as if it was a lament of something that screamed in despair.
Feeling dizzy, they were affected more than they thought, Hilda on the other hand could not understand why she felt familiar with that distorted and high-pitched voice, as she thought, something crossed her mind, so far she only knew one person who was capable of generating something bizarre.
Worried, she was distracted for a moment, enough for Ross with one hand and his right ear, to pick up the spear in his left hand and thrust the spear at her.
Seeing when it was too late, Hilda tried to dodge to miss a vital point, but when the spear collided with the skin on her lower abdomen.
However, when the blade would pierce deeper, Ross screamed in pain as he had his hand hit by a dagger, making him open his hand instantly by reflex, giving Hilda time to pick up the spear and pull it away, luckily, the wound was still no big deal.
Looking to the side, she saw where the dagger came from, a girl who just seemed to have entered her teens, was panting as if she had run too long, had just saved her.
"Envy, why are you here?"
Not expecting this, Hilda was worried about how risky it was for Envy to fight someone of Ross's level.
"After we received the arrow, everyone prepared for a possible attack, but I decided to make use of what big brother taught me, and I sneaked around to see the enemies, then I saw you fighting from afar."
Stopping next to Hilda, the girl seemed to grab the air and the dagger returned to her hand, if they didn't look closely most wouldn't see the threads attached to the dagger, Envy's idea when she heard one of the stories Satoru told her, it took a while to she learned to use it the right way, but in the end, it turned out to be useful.
"A shitty brat, teaming up with a daemon, just so you know, I don't even pity children, do you want to stand in my way?!"
With anger clear in his voice, Ross drew his sword, the cut hadn't been deep, and thanks to his rigid training, he could easily take the pain.
"I don't think there's going back, hehe." Envy said smiling, trying to hide the nervousness of actually fighting for the first time.
"Idiot, don't take chances, and stay away from him."
Taking Ross's spear, and turning it like he was getting used to the weapon.
