Chapter 0:
That Time I Found Myself In The forest
Because of this, I slowly sat up. In my surprise at what happened, I didn't immediately notice my surroundings. All I asked was, "No, no, no, this is not my voice." But what really came out of my mouth was just "Nyaaa… ahh…". Because of this, I immediately looked to my right and observed my surroundings in wonder.
I saw trees, grass, and a flat expanse of land approaching my location. I seemed to be in a high place. I looked at my body to confirm my suspicion. I did see my small feet and hands. My upper body seemed to be wrapped in a white cloth garment, long sleeves on my arms, and a skirt-like covering for my lower body. Because of this, I understood:Am I a baby? But how did that happen? Did I die? I can't fully remember.
The last thing I remember is coming home yesterday, exhausted, and going straight to my room. Besides that, it's a blank slate; if so, who am I?It's strange because I can remember things I used to do and places I've been, but I can't remember my name. I can't remember anyone I know either. Hmm... I know that I am a male, 22 years old, a student, single, a gamer, and an anime nerd.
Is this what they call "reincarnation"?So basically, I was reincarnated in another world. But unfortunately, I am now in the body of a baby, and in the middle of a forest at that. I just wonder how a baby can have a consciousness of its own. So many questions are flooding my mind, like how a baby ended up all alone in this wilderness. And in the forest, of all places.
I looked to my left and saw a large statue. It was made of smooth, gray stone, seemingly shaped by many generations of careful carving. Its form was half-human and half-animal. It had the sturdy body of a warrior but the head of an eagle looking into the distance. Its eyes contained shining stones that sparkled when hit by the light of the fire from the torches. On the statue's chest was an engraved family emblem. A circle surrounded by waves and fire. Its hands were outstretched: one seemed to be giving a blessing, and the other was holding a spear thrust into the ground, like a sign of protection.
After looking at the statue, I asked myself. "If there's a statue here, where exactly am I now?" Because of my curiosity, I tried standing, and my legs trembled, but I managed. I looked down and my mind was given an answer.I'm at an altar? Hmm... If there's a statue and an altar, does that mean I'm a sacrifice? As creepy as that thought is, perhaps this baby whose body I now inhabit was brought here to the altar as a sacrifice. Probably a customary practice of a cult or ancient people.Hmm... Anyway, first things first, I need to focus now on how I'm going to survive in this place.
