Chapter 24:

Let’s not forget about the “Aspiring writer” part

Having Trouble Coming up With a Decent Story

“Are you sure you aren’t trying too hard?” Koshiro asked the girl named Umiko Sawada who was before him.

“Shut up, Koshiro idiot!” Sawada replied as she tried to elegantly sip some tea.

“Ugh.” “I can’t believe that girl. She had trouble eating with those baggy clothes, but she still wants to sip the like this?” he observed her try to lift the little finger while holding a mug. She was about to pour it all into her clothes. “Calm down!” Koshiro held the mug to prevent it from spilling.

“Hey!” the girl complained. She was already pouting to receive the now cold liquid, “What are you doing?!”

“I’m just making sure you don’t stain Sumiye’s clothes.”

SLAP she slapped Koshiro’s hand, “She lent the clothes to me! I can do whatever I want with it.”

“Aargh.” the boy sighed and then stood up, “Suit yourself.” he went to the stairs. “It’s always like this at tea parties, why does she always want to drink it like that? Does she think she’s some sort of princess?”

As Koshiro crossed the threshold of his bedroom, he was greeted by Scar, who jumped on his face.

“Aaaagh!” the boy screamed, taking the cat off of his face, “What the hell are you doing? Don’t tell me you thought it was a cat molester again!”

“Not this time.” Scar stared at him, “I was just trying to greet Umiko-chan.”

“Umiko-chan?”

“Yes! If it was her I could’ve jumped onto her head instead of her face!” Scar leaned her head, “So you’ll have to blame your height for this one!”

“Ugh, whatever.” Koshiro put the black cat on the ground. He sat on his chair and turned on his computer to see that he had various messages from Nobu: “Was he hacked in all of his devices or something?” he murmured while deleting the messages starting just like the one in chapter 22 (“Hey are you an aspiring writer??!”), “Huh?” the boy noticed that he had received a message from Nyoko. “Well, she’s probably just giving a simple reply to my last message.” Koshiro ignored it.

But Nyoko continued to text him, and then she started to call him as well, which forced Koshiro to pick up the phone:

“WHAT?” he roared.

“That’s really how you’d answer the phone if it was Nyoko? Shame on you Koshiro.” it was a male voice.

“Nobu? What the hell are you doing with Nyoko-chan’s phone?”

“You blocked me. Don’t you remember? I had to find a way to talk to you.”

“You can’t blame me! You were hacked!”

“Of course I wasn’t hacked! Even though I walk through mysterious and dark paths, I know my way out of them!”

“Okay… so why did you call me for?”

“It’s about the message I sent you.” Nobu affirmed.

“The spam?”

“It isn’t spam.”

“The p…”

“Nor porn.”

“Then…

“I don’t think it is copyrighted either. Just look at it… and unblock me.”

“Hmm…” Koshiro unblocked his friend and then proceeded onto reading what he had sent him: “Wait… this is…” his eyes widened.

“Yes, something that might help you for real.”

“Nobu, I...”

“Don’t worry about it! You can thank me properly when we meet again! It’s only two weeks from now after all. For now, I suggest you use your laptop to look into the details.”

“Okay, bye then.”

“Bye.”

Koshiro locked his phone and quickly returned his attention to the computer, where he started to type: Kanojo x Kanojo x Ka

“Hey!” Sawada’s voice was crossing the door, “What are you doing?!”

“Huh?” Koshiro looked at what he typed: “Oops! Old habits die hard, I guess…” he corrected what he had typed to Kanojo x Kanojo x Krakaren - Top 10 anime fights of the season, “Now it's right.”

“You didn’t answer me!” Sawada was sulking at him.

“Oh, I’m sorry.” Koshiro was more focused on the screen in front of him, “What was the question again?”

“What are you doing?!” she repeated.

“Oh! My friend Nobu just sent me something that might help move the ‘Aspiring writer’ part of this story forward, since it seems that I forgot about that for some chapters now.” he entered a site called BearFeed.

“Hmm…”

“But you know, it isn’t my fault…” just as Nobu had sent him, there was an ad in the corner of the page leading to a site talking about a writing contest. “...that the other characters got their chapters. Or the fact that the president asked me to spy on them…”

"Looks like you're coming up with excuses!"

“Or the fact that you’re being a big pain in my ass.”

“Koshiro idiot is the one that is a big pain!” Sawada pouted, “You idiot.”

“Uhum.” Koshiro looked at the screen and started to read (the important parts at least):

Announcing the first “I was writing a poor story when I decided to break the fourth wall and show why I was writing it!” writing contest!

Writing Platform: BearFeed

Voting Platform: MyMangaRank

Entry fee: Most of your time (and maybe some of your health)

The winning story may be eligible to be published by Kekonshiki! (and win a little bit of money)

“Kekonshiki? Are they giving advantage to romantic stories?”

“Hey!! You’re ignoring me!” Sawada obstructed his vision.

“C’mon Sawada, this is an important part. Can’t you just play with Scar or jump on the beds again?”

“Oh! Can I touch the painting now?”

“Of course.”

“Yay!” she darted out of the room, “Come here, Scar-chan!!”

“What a kid.” Koshiro observed her leave the room and then resumed to read seriously:

Eligibility Checklist:

English only (good luck with that)

Completed stories must contain at least 45000 words (don’t worry, it’ll feel like 45000000)

No re-posts, rewrites, spin-offs, fanfics, collaborations, or doujinshis (keep it in your pants guys)

It should be family-friendly

Authors must be 18 years old*

“...” Koshiro stopped suddenly. He couldn’t voice a single word. That last requirement made him completely crestfallen, but he kept reading, now slowly and agonizingly:

Judging criteria:

Post frequency: post in consistent intervals (WE’RE ORDERING YOU TO DIE! Or be organized, you chose)

Writing & Storytelling: has decent grammar; is creative (that’s your nemesis Koshiro)

“Huh?”

Marketability: easily translatable to anime or manga; is marketable; has an engaging art (if you don’t know how to draw, good luck!) (just kidding, you can ask a friend)

“That ‘marketable’ part will be hard without porn… or ecchi…”

Public Engagement: people have to find your story decent (although we won’t)

“Well, I guess that’s it. I can’t comp…” his line of thought stopped when he saw a light at the end of the tunnel:

*Authors must be 18 years old, unless:

1 - You are the protagonist of a Harem

“Hmm… I don’t think so… not yet at least.”

2 - You happen to be a bear

“Does Kuma-chan likes writing?”

3 - You have plot armor

"My plot armor is made of thorns. I wonder if that'll do it….” Koshiro murmured, “...I keep having this feeling that an alternative version of me, from the future, is going to try to kill me" "I have to remember never get myself involved in a fight between mages."

4 - You are a friend of someone from the Takayama family (even Hayami Takayama would suffice)

“Huh?” Koshiro read it again to see if he wasn’t mistaken: “‘You are a friend of someone from the Takayama family (even Hayami Takayama would suffice)’... WHAAAAAT?!”
