Chapter 12:
Perpendicular Lime
"How does it feel to be a spy in a relationship?"
"Doctor, this office of yours, did you ever check it for bugs?"
"No, I can't say I have, Mr. Smith. William, for you please."
"I can do it for you, so one treatment is free."
"Sure."
"Great."
Smith was looking around the office, scanning for secret devices that could be planted.
"Seems good," Smith said after a few minutes of looking around.
"Great. Can we now start with your relationship and what issues did you notice?"
Smith was sitting straight in his black suit, perfectly falling down his broad shoulders. The office of the psychiatrist was heavily inspired by Asian culture and zen.
"I have noticed that my girlfriend is not efficient and punctual as I would like. It is driving me crazy lately, this lack of pragmatism and systematic organization decision-making from her side."
The psychiatrist was writing something down. Smith was nodding to this.
"I also work late, and she sometimes goes to these parties that I hate. So sometimes after my work, we don't even see each other."
"Yes, that can be hard. The proximity and touch, spending time together, is very important."
"Maybe I could follow her one day or something, just to observe her and find out how she could spend time more efficiently."
"Ahh, I see how you would think that is a good idea, but trust me, it is not. What I would recommend is to just talk to her and find some time that would work for you both to spend time together."
"Hm, I never thought about that. I am still very tempted to increase her efficiency though, and these parties are getting annoying."
"Are you jealous about her going to these parties? Is it making you feel some type of way?"
"Hmm, I am not sure. I am not really jealous, but I view parties as a waste of time. I don't see why anyone would go to parties."
"How is your relationship with your parents?"
Smith coldly said, "It is fine. You know, Dr., I will work for now on this first point and try to talk to her. Also, be careful—the guy that is renting you this office is a known loan shark."
"No need to worry."
Smith exited, and the psychiatrist continued his day as usual, not knowing that Smith had planted a bunch of bugs in his office, as he does to most places where he goes.
Sophia was just laying around and wrote to Smith if he could come.
To her surprise, instant reply: "Yes, I can come."
"Great."
Sophia changed and got her long red hair into a ponytail. She played some German rock and was dancing and getting herself ready for the arrival of her boyfriend.
Her father, on the other side, was not ready for his cake to win 3rd place at the local cake competition. He was devastated. Only 3rd. How lame. I am not satisfied. This is a disgrace, and the competition is rigged for sure.
Ludwig went home and straight into storage. He took some lines of coke on a barrel and then cleaned around.
He thought of visiting Sophia, so without even calling her, he decided to go to her new place. In front of Sophia's place there was a car already, and Ludwig was sitting in his car and watching silhouettes of his daughter and one more person through the curtains.
Sophia was not happy. In her room filled with white furniture, the fight with her boyfriend started to boil.
"You are German. How can you be late all the time?"
"What does it matter if I am German, you microscopic racist?"
"Why do you use such weird terms? I am merely pointing out some things that could improve our relationship."
"How about you sometimes actually show up instead of working all the time? That could also improve our relationship, you big, handsome, muscular, hot, giant working nerd."
"I must work. You know this." Smith said and went to sit onto Sophia's bed.
Sophia joined Smith on the bed, and they started making out.
Ludwig decided to go. He had seen enough through the curtains. He didn't go home, so he went to Mary. He arrived and was knocking on the back door.
Wilson opened the door. "Oh, hello. How can I help you?"
"Is Mary here?"
"Oh, sorry, she left me this place and moved into an apartment in the center of the town. She doesn't leave there anymore."
"Great."
Ludwig sat in the car, pulled out of his pocket some powder, and rubbed the powder into his mouth. He started to drive toward the address that Wilson provided him with.
The sirens were loudly echoing. The red and blue lights were blinding. The speed of the ambulance vehicle was immense.
The car crash that Ludwig caused was devastating, and now the ambulances were trying to save what could be saved.
Sophia was sleeping on Smith's shoulder, nicely tucked in with blankets. Smith had an AirPod in his ear, listening in to his therapist's office.
The loan shark that he was following was also doing therapy. The loan shark had an unexpected issue of his mother beating him every day with whatever was closest to her hand. He was never good enough for her.
Smith was listening closely, and the issues were more and more private. The loan shark was on the verge of tears talking about how his mother didn't like his collection of shampoos.
Loan shark David was borrowing money to a lot of people, so he could be a potential ally as well, Mr. Smith thought. He sounds not that troublesome. Maybe I could use him for something. Maybe I can make him the pawn, some flank pawn that is not that important but that could be easily pressured to do exactly what we want.
Smith then switched on his phone the bugs that he was listening to, and he heard that Clair was having fun with someone else. He heard that his colleague Mark was playing video games. But he also heard that in this one ambulance there was a patient in critical condition with low chances of survival.
