Chapter 0:

Prologue

4th & Forever

(With the United States Football Association now in their postseason for the 2017 year, Number #19, also known as the Quarterback for the football team, the New York Aviators, Ayden Spencer, was met with the head coach after the game as the team's season ended on a heartwrenching record... 2-15.)

"Ayden Spencer (Age: 25 | Team: New York Aviators | Position: QB - (QB1): ..."
"Jody Christensen (Age: 49 | Role: Head Coach | Team: New York Aviators): Spencer, there's no easy way to say this. You've been with the Aviators for three seasons, and things have gotten worse year after year."
"Ayden: C-Coach, please. I know I've been spiraling down, but please! One more season, I'll take us to the playoffs!"
"Jody: 2015 Season, 5-12. 2016 Season, 1-16. And now this season, 2-15."
"Ayden: ..Coach, please don't do this to me..!"
"Jody: Spencer, you're released from the Aviators. I apologize that things haven't worked out between us."

(With Ayden's heart sinking after hearing the news, he'd fall to his hands and knees, begging for one more season.)

"Ayden: COACH! PLEASE..! I NEED ONE MORE CHANCE..! NO TEAM IN THE ASSOCIATION WILL GIVE ME ANOTHER CHANCE..!"
"Jody: ...I'm sorry, kid, but business is business. I'll need your helmet."

(Ayden would then willingly surrender his helmet; he'd walk out of the office emotionally upset, as the New York Aviators locker room even avoided Spencer. With a carpool expecting Ayden's return, he'd then walk out of the headquarters of the Aviators, ambushed by the press for questions regarding his future in football.)

"Female Reporter #1: Mr. Spencer! Mr. Spencer, over here!"
"Male Reporter #1: Ayden, what changes will you make for you to become a top Quarterback next season?!"
"Female Reporter #2: Is it true that you'll be released from the Aviators after three seasons?!"

(With Ayden suddenly pulled to the carpool by his hired security, Ayden was then carpooled directly to the airport, with a first-class ticket set for him by his family's sports agent throughout his whole career.)

"Jessica Rose (Age: 25 | Ayden's Sport Agent): I've set your ticket for the ride home, and don't worry, Ayden. I'll pull some strings to get you with another team in the association. I think the Music City Rockheads might be looking for a new Quarterback."
"Ayden: ..."
"Jessica: ..Uh.. w-well.. what about the Los Angeles Waves? They need a backup Quarterback!"
"Ayden: ..I'm done."
"Jessica: Huh?"
"Ayden: I'm done, Jessica. I tried, but I really think football isn't for me at this point."
"Jessica: ..A-Ayden, come on.. I know it's been a little hectic for you in eight seasons... But another season means more golden opportunities!"
"Ayden: ..I'm serious, Jessica. I'm truly grateful for the chance to live out my dream with the USFA, but I'm finished. No team in the association will ever want to sign me, especially with the way I've been playing for the past three seasons with New York."
"Jessica: ...Then.. What will you do then?"
"Ayden: ..Honestly, who knows? Not like anyone in the association will care."

(With the car continuing its route to the airport, hours passed into the early night, pitch black skies as Ayden returned home in a modern family suburban home in Dayton, Ohio. Ayden would live alongside his big sister, a hockey enthusiast, and his little brother, an aspiring young Quarterback for the Miami Orcas, whose regular season has ended at 10-7, granting Miami a wild-card position in the playoffs. Ayden also cares for the family pet, a male German Shepherd. Ayden would feed the family's pet before sulking on his couch in sadness. He'd then turn on the television to watch the USFA Postgame Show for Sunday Night Football.)

"Ayden: ..."

(With the playoff picture presented on the TV, Ayden would clearly see that for the APFC Conference, the top seed was the Hallendale Beach Stallions, and the six other teams behind the Stallions in the playoffs as well were the Buffalo Snowwalkers, the Baltimore Griffins, the Indianapolis Racers, the Miami Orcas, the Las Vegas Gambits, and lastly, the Los Angeles Waves.)

"Ayden: ...The Gambits actually made it to the playoffs this year...?"
"???: Lil bro, is that you?"

(Coming downstairs after emerging from the shower, dressed in her pajamas, was Ayden's older sister, Luciana.)

"Luciana Spencer (Age: 31 | Women's Professional Hockey Player | Position: Left Wing): Ayden! Are the Aviators going to extend you for another season?"
"Ayden: ...No. They've gotten sick of me, so they released me."
"Luciana: ..Aww.. I'm sorry, lil bro. Do you want me to cook you something to cheer you up?"
"Ayden: No, it's okay. I'm just going to go to sleep early."
"Luciana: Well, alright.. If you need me for anything, Ayden, I'm here. Don't forget, okay?"
"Ayden: I won't. Goodnight, Luciana."

(With Ayden cutting off the TV and the living room light, he'd sleep on the couch to forget about tonight, as Luciana knew he was truly depressed. With Ayden then asleep, Monday morning arrived when a doorbell rang, waking Ayden. He'd awaken from the couch and walk over to open it, to find out it was Jessica Rose, his sports agent, who had rushed over as quickly as she could with news for Ayden.)

"Ayden: ...Jessica? It's 10:00 in the morning..."
"Jessica: Ayden! I've just rushed over to make sure you were okay, you're okay, right?!"
"Ayden: Yeah..?"
"Jessica: Good... If you're ready to get back to hunting for next season, I can arrange-"
"Ayden: -I wasn't joking, Jessica. I'm done."
"Jessica: A-Ayden? You're serious?"
"Ayden: Name one USFA Team willing to sign me after the atrocious three years I've caused with the Aviators."
"Jessica: ...Well- The um- The Pittsburgh Metalheads were interested.. But took back their offer... Wait! The San Francisco Bullions- ...No. They found a new Quarterback... But Ayden, we can-"

(With the door slammed in front of her face, Ayden returned to his sofa and collapsed on the cushion. Suddenly, the doorbell would ring two more times before Luciana, who was brushing her teeth and her hair completely undone due to her just waking up, was walking downstairs to open the door.)

"Luciana (Muffled): Ah! Jessica!"
"Jessica: Luciana, hey there!"

(With a few minutes passing by, Luciana and Jessica were discussing their usual talks on future team signings as Ayden scrolled through social media, irritated by the many memes, hate talk, and much disrespect he was getting on his season with the New York Aviators, leaving him to believe this was definitely his worst season socially.)

"Ayden: Ugh.. Jackasses, man."
"Luciana: Hey, bro, when are you going to start practicing for other teams?"
"Ayden: Luciana, I told you, I'm genuinely done. I really cannot stand the hate I'm getting, okay?! I put my heart out there entertaining these jackoffs, and I'm given nothing but lip. I'm just going to quit the sport, sulk here, and watch TV."

(With the TV turned on, coincidentally at the right time, the channel was still on sports. With the sound of triumphant horns playing on his speakers, a presentation of the United States Football Association was going live.)

"Voice: DOT Sports, celebrating over thirty-nine seasons of Sunday Night Football, welcomes you to the following presentation of the United States Football Association!"

(At the broadcast booth were four well-known colleagues to the sport, Cade Gallagher, a former Linebacker for the Seattle Krakens, and his partner, Ryan Kelly, a longtime booth commentator for the network.)

"Cade Gallagher (Age: 49 | Retired All-Pro Seattle Krakens Linebacker | Podcast Host): Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to the USFA Network! Cade Gallagher here, and joining me at the booth is my partner for the podcast, Ryan Kelly!"
"Ryan Kelly (Age: 43 | Full-Time Sports Broadcast Host): Thank you for the introduction, Gallagher! What a season this has been for the USFA, am I right?"
"Cade: You're not wrong there! There have been so many upset victories within the eighteen weeks of football, and we've officially closed out the season with the Buffalo Snowwalkers solidifying their record with a 15-2 after slamming the door shut on the Boston Minutemen, ending their season with a record of 4-13."
"Ryan: Dare I say, Cade, that was one of the best hard-hitting divisional games the APFC Conference has ever had, Snowwalkers defeating the Minutemen, 49 to 43. With the final Sunday Night Football concluded, we now have the playoff teams set. Let's start with the CFC Conference's playoff picture!"

(With the CFC Conference appearing on screen, the first seed was the Philadelphia Vultures, who ended their season with 13-4. Joining them in the playoffs will be the Wisconsin Cheesers, LA Mambas, Arizona Canyoniers, New Orleans Sinners, Washington Warhawks, and the New York Goliaths.)

"Ryan: This has to be one of the craziest playoff pictures I've seen for the CFC in such a long time. We have not seen the Canyoniers in the playoffs since 2007!"
"Cade: One of the biggest shockers that has solidified their spot for the playoffs was the Divisional victory against the Seattle Krakens! As a former Linebacker myself, I have to tip my hat to the Canyoniers for drafting such a quarterback, Douglas Nicholeson, who, in my opinion, is one of the best quarterbacks in the association today!"
"Ayden: ..."
"Ryan: Not to mention the Canyoniers' amazing climb into the playoffs in the first place, it started in Los Angeles after a crucial victory against their division rivals, the Los Angeles Mambas, who are not to be underestimated. They've ended the season 11-6, but will still be awarded the Wild Card, as for the other...-"

(With Ayden getting up to grab a drink, Luciana and Jessica continued to speak about Luciana's future as a professional women's hockey Hall of Famer... Until the mention of the eliminated teams has caught their attention.)

"Luciana: Huh?"
"Jessica: So the Aviators are getting the first picks of the draft next season."
"Cade: Speaking about the New York Aviators, we've actually managed to reach out to one of the most legendary players for the Indianapolis Racers, Michael Cross, a former Quarterback with a very short career, but has managed to win himself and the Indianapolis Racers four Gridiron Bowl Cups! The legend himself retires this year as he'd actually like to share a few words about the career of Ayden Spencer, former Quarterback for the New York Aviators! Cross, are you there?"

(With the transmission picking up Michael via satellite, the connection would reach Michael, currently relaxing at an indoor resort in Hawaii with an Arnold Palmer in his hand.)

"Michael Cross (Age: 27 | Team: Indianapolis Racers | Role: Quarterback): Gallagher, Kelly! Great to hear from you two, what kind of questions you tryna' fire at the Crossbow?"
"Ryan: Michael, it's great to hear from you! We'd actually like a few words from the Quarterback Juggernaut himself. Are there any words of advice you can give to Ayden Spencer for the New York Aviators?"

"Michael: Ahh, I don't know if I should say this. But granted, the kid's got a lot of work to do for himself. The way he throws the damn ball makes him look so bad that even a middle schooler could have more potential in the sport. If I could, I'd even cut my retirement plans and show the kid how it's done by taking the Aviators to the playoffs myself! That guy has had three seasons with New York, and somehow bombed every single season with them? I can't blame the Aviators for doing what they need to do; the kid needs reconstruction. If he can't reconstruct how he plays, the best thing he can do is quit the association. Ayden is not cut out to be a Quarterback. Ayden is not cut out to be a leader, and he's most definitely not cut out to be a USFA Hall of Famer."

(With Ayden seething over what he is hearing on the television, Luciana immediately cut the TV off, disagreeing with what Michael said.)

"Luciana: Ignore him, brother. You'll do better than him-"
"Ayden: -DAMN IT!!!"

(Ayden would throw his dining room chair across the living room, the wood crashing and the chair broken after colliding with the ground.)

"Ayden: I'M DONE! I've tried with this damn association!"
"Luciana: B-Brother.. It's okay, he's just an old quarterback, he doesn't know what he's talking about..!"
"Ayden: I don't want anything to do with the sport, I'm done with the association!"
"Luciana: Brother, w-wait!"

(As Ayden stormed out of the house, fuming with hatred, Jessica and Luciana would both feel worried for him as Luciana hoped for Ayden to change his mind in the future...)
