Chapter 22:
meet the bloodbriars
The staff room hums with whispered schemes. Ms. Halpern believes she can outmaneuver me in subtle office politics, gaining favor with the administration through petty gossip.
I sit in my corner, black blazer unbuttoned, coffee steaming beside me. I watch. Observe. Every faltering glance, every overconfident smirk. I don’t intervene… yet.
A carefully phrased email from her arrives, attempting casual subtlety. I respond with precision. Polite, neutral—but every word highlights a flaw she didn’t know she revealed.
Within hours, she has undermined herself spectacularly, and the staff notice. I sip tea, pretending to read quietly. “…Idiots,” I mutter softly.
The office hums around me. I leave unobserved. My work is done. Shadows are safe. I remain untouchable.
