Chapter 36:
meet the bloodbriars
“Humor is inefficient,” Hades says.
“Incorrect,” I reply. “It’s a weapon.”
We test this.
At dinner, I say:
“Statistically, most of you will embarrass yourselves tonight.”
Silence.
Then—awkward laughter.
Later, Hades tries.
“…That story had no point.”
The adult stops speaking mid-sentence.
We compare notes.
“…Timing matters,” he concludes.
“…And tone,” I add.
Father watches from the shadows.
“…They’re evolving,” he mutters.
