Chapter 10:

Beckett’s Shadow Work

side stories of the bloodbriars

Beckett sat in the back of a sunlit art studio, trench coat and mask still in place. He observed quietly, fingers tapping lightly on his sketchpad as his older cousins and sisters worked on graphic design projects.

“Beckett, can you adjust this logo?” a cousin whispered.

“Done,” he said softly, never standing. One subtle edit later, the design looked perfect.

People around him gushed quietly about his skill, never realizing how much he actually enjoyed lurking in the shadows.

Diana’s voice reached him via phone:

“Remember to take a break for lunch, my prince.”

He smirked beneath his mask as he goes on break now. Shadows could be comfortable—even when the world expected brilliance from him.
