Chapter 13:
more of the life of the bloodbriars in sidestory stuff
The mountains were crisp with early morning air, pine trees swaying gently, and the faint scent of wildflowers mingling with the steam rising from hidden hot springs. Terry had insisted on a weekend retreat, claiming it was “for bonding and strategic thinking,” while Damien’s brow had been raised the entire car ride up. Beckett, quiet and stoic, had merely adjusted his mask and gloves and let the family chatter wash over him.
The twins, Peresphone and Hades, immediately declared it a perfect opportunity for shadow work and minor mischief. Terry’s infant, snug in a baby carrier, gurgled happily, unaware of the scheming around them.
Mentoring the Miniatures
Beckett and Diana took it upon themselves to “mentor” the twins and their baby cousin.
Peresphone learned how to subtly redirect attention in a room, while Hades practiced using silence as intimidation—a natural skill, obviously.
Terry’s baby, surprisingly, barely cried, even under the sharp scrutiny of their baby uncle Beckett, who leaned close, evaluating with stoic detachment.
Diana watched, heart swelling, noting how her children mirrored both her and Beckett’s calculated presence.
The twins improvised a tiny mask for their baby cousin, giggling as they “trained” them in mock intimidation, much to the amusement of everyone.
Hot Spring Discovery
By midday, the family stumbled upon a steaming hot spring hidden between rocky ledges. Terry and Damien immediately settled the baby in a safe area on the shore. Beckett remained reserved, mask and gloves intact, analyzing the water’s flow and temperature.
Diana wandered further up the spring trails, a small book in hand. The sunlight hit her hair perfectly, the crisp mountain air mixing with the smell of ink and paper as she read literature quietly, lost in her own world.
Beckett eventually followed, quietly assessing the privacy of the springs above the main area.
The Private Spring
Hidden behind natural stone walls and rising steam, the spring offered a secluded area just for the couple. Beckett removed his gloves and mask—a rare sight—and dipped into the water with Diana beside him.
She leaned close, her fingers brushing his jawline, and whispered softly:
“…My tall dark handsome prince.”
Beckett’s stoic eyes softened. “…Mistress.”
The intimacy escalated in subtle, safe-for-work ways—soft movements, whispered words, and gestures that made it clear Diana was pleasuring him orally without needing explicit detail. Beckett, mask-free and relaxed, was revealed in his rare vulnerability, and Diana’s heart practically stopped at how lucky she felt to be with him.
When the moment passed, Beckett slipped his mask back on, the gloves returning to his hands, leaving Diana floating in the warm water, blushing and smiling to herself.
Family Reactions
Down by the main hot spring:
Terry and Damien noticed Beckett emerging from the hidden spring, maskless, and nearly did a double-take. Terry whispered, “…Wow. That’s… not the Beckett we usually see.”
Damien smirked knowingly. “I can see why Diana’s head is constantly spinning.”
Even their baby didn’t cry at the sight of their “baby uncle”—instead, they gurgled happily, and Peresphone and Hades pulled a small improvised mask over Beckett as a joke, sending the group into quiet laughter.
Terry shook her head in amusement: “…That is… actually kind of terrifying and impressive.”
Diana, wide-eyed, tugged Beckett closer. “I’m the luckiest girl alive.”
Beckett remained stoic, but a faint smile tugged at the corner of his lips as the twins mocked a “mini mask ceremony” over him.
Family Games Continue
The retreat wasn’t over yet. Terry and Damien organized lightweight “strategy games” for the family, while the twins continued mentoring their baby cousin and teasingly directing the game. Beckett and Diana worked together as a quiet duo, subtly guiding outcomes and keeping chaos under control.
The twins’ improvisation, the baby’s curious amusement, and Diana’s casual domination of Beckett’s attention made for a perfect combination of chaos and calm.
Damien chuckled at Beckett’s rare maskless expression, whispering to Terry: “…He’s really that good-looking, isn’t he?”
Terry laughed softly. “Finally… I get why Diana worships him.”
By the end of the day, the family had explored the mountains, soaked in the springs, played games, and quietly acknowledged the unique bond between Beckett and Diana.
Even the twins, mischief makers as they were, admitted in whispers that the adults’ subtle strategies and PDA were almost too powerful to compete with.
Closing Moment
As the sun dipped behind the mountains, Diana rested her head on Beckett’s shoulder, still blushing.
“My prince,” she murmured. “I could stay here forever.”
Beckett, stoic as ever, replied softly: “…Mistress. Then we will.”
The twins giggled, the baby cooed, and Terry and Damien simply watched, satisfied that the family, chaos, and quiet domesticity all coexisted perfectly in their mountain retreat.
