Chapter 14:

Chapter: After the Retreat—Family Mischief and Subtle PDA

more of the life of the bloodbriars in sidestory stuff

The morning after the mountain retreat, the family estate was alive with quiet energy. The twins, Peresphone and Hades, had been up since dawn, already plotting small pranks and playful “shadow missions” around the house. Terry and Damien were enjoying coffee and beckett ginger ale on the veranda, observing the chaos with a mixture of amusement and mild exasperation.

Beckett and Diana entered from the hot spring retreat earlier that day, still carrying the calm intimacy of the mountains with them. Beckett had returned to his usual mask and gloves, but Diana noticed the lingering warmth in his gaze and the rare softness in his movements.

Morning Family Dynamics

The twins immediately ran up to Beckett, tugging playfully at his scarf and mock-adjusting his mask.

“Father!” Peresphone exclaimed, “You’re supposed to scare people, not let us pull your face!” she says as Beckett allows her to do so because he knows well he taught his kids how bad all germs are and they wash their hands anyways.

Hades added with a grin, “We missed our mountain lessons, so we’re practicing here!”

Beckett adjusted his mask with quiet patience, stoic as ever, while Diana whispered in his ear, leaning close:

“See? They’re just like you—mischievous but clever.”

“…Mistress,” Beckett murmured, a faint smile tugging at the corners of his lips.

Even the baby reached up from Terry’s arms, grabbing at Beckett’s scarf as if testing him, cooing happily without a hint of fear. Terry chuckled softly. “I can’t believe how well he handles the kids. And you… you’re quite the catch, Diana, for helping us raising him this well.”

Diana smiled warmly, brushing a loose strand of hair behind her ear. “It helps that he’s… incredible, even if he’s well just like me.”

Terry then puts her hand underneath her chin in a playful manner. “Ah my favorite anti social colder than these mountains misanthorpes” she says teasing them.

Subtle PDA in the Morning

As the family prepared breakfast together, Diana and Beckett shared quiet, subtle gestures of affection:

Beckett offered his arm while helping Diana carry the baby’s tray.

Diana leaned into him while adjusting the twins’ playful masks, whispering teasing remarks that only he could hear.

Their movements mirrored each other naturally, silent synchronization that the twins noted with wide-eyed fascination.

Peresphone nudged Hades and whispered: “Parents are ridiculous.”
Hades smirked. “And amazing.”

Even Terry and Damien, seasoned and composed, quietly observed the couple with faint smiles. Damien murmured to Terry: “He really is that good-looking under the mask.”
Terry laughed softly: “And she’s lucky to have helped raise him. You two are something else.”

Family Games and Mischief

Later in the morning, Terry suggested a series of lighthearted strategy games for everyone:

The twins created small “missions” for the baby to follow along, practicing observation and coordination.

Diana and Beckett worked as a subtle team, quietly directing the flow of each game without revealing their influence.

The baby, still fascinated by Beckett, attempted to “participate” by reaching for his gloves, making everyone laugh.

At one point, the twins mischievously tugged at Beckett’s mask, pretending to try to pull it off. He played along for just a second, then gently nudged their hands away, eliciting giggles. Diana whispered teasingly in his ear, her voice low and playful:

“Always my tall, dark, clever prince.”

“…Mistress,” he replied, voice soft but unwavering, clearly showing the dom/sub dynamic even in subtle, safe-for-work gestures.

Quiet Reflections

After the games, the family settled on the veranda again, watching the sun climb higher over the estate grounds.

Terry leaned toward Diana, whispering with a smile: “You did well with him. Even if he’s an icy misanthorpe like you, you two are perfect together—and the kids love him and you.”
Diana grinned, resting her head on Beckett’s shoulder. “He’s… perfect for me. And for our family.”

Damien, standing nearby with the baby in his arms, smirked quietly: “I still can’t believe he lets you pull him around so easily. I’d have thought someone like him would resist.”
Beckett’s faint smile under the mask was the only answer, and Diana leaned into him, heart full, knowing she had her partner exactly where she wanted him—in trust, love, and quiet devotion.

The twins, watching all the subtle PDA and gentle teasing, whispered to each other:

“Parents are ridiculous… and amazing.”
“Exactly,” Hades replied.

Even the baby reached up and tugged at Beckett’s scarf, playfully joining in on the affection.

Closing Moment

The sun warmed the terrace, the mountains a perfect backdrop. Diana and Beckett shared a quiet, intimate moment—whispered words, a gentle hand on a shoulder, a light teasing of scarf and mask—while the family laughed, cooed, and watched.

All was peaceful, warm, and perfectly chaotic. The weekend retreat had accomplished exactly what it was meant to: family bonding, mentoring, mischief, and the quiet, undeniable intimacy between Diana and Beckett.

And in the golden light of the morning, with the twins mimicking minor pranks and the baby giggling, it was clear: all was well.
