Chapter 23:
The Cartoon Kid: Shard Hunt.
Training Chamber 1
The chamber reshaped itself with a low mechanical hum, walls unfolding and locking into place as the floor fractured into a simulated battlefield. Training bots rose from the ground in rapid succession.
Kira moved.
Each strike landed with molecular precision. Limbs shattered. Cores collapsed. One after another, the bots were pulverized and digitized into fading grids of light.
I will surpass all! Molecular Girl thought.
"Chamber, set training to maximum," she said.
New bots spawned instantly, faster and heavier. She flowed through them, strikes sharp and controlled, until the last one dissolved.
A sudden shadow passed overhead.
Decibolt dropped from one of the chamber tubes and landed behind her.
"What are you doing here?" Molecular Girl said.
"Am I not allowed to train anymore?" Decibolt said.
"You don't get to train in the same chamber as me. I don't want you seeing my new ability until it's perfected," Molecular Girl said.
"When will you realize you'll never surpass me?" Decibolt said.
"When my body rots to the core. Now leave," Molecular Girl said.
"Sheesh, no need to be mean," Decibolt said.
He turned and left. The chamber fell silent.
Kira exhaled and reset the system.
"Chamber, set terrain to rocky," Molecular Girl said.
The battlefield shifted violently. Smooth steel gave way to jagged stone plains. She raised her hand and focused on a nearby rock.
The interior trembled. Microfractures rippled within, unseen from the outside.
"It's affecting the inside, but the surface stays the same. My aura should fix that—" Molecular Girl said.
Her concentration snapped.
"We need you in the main chamber," the Guardian said, his voice cutting through her mind.
"Training postponed, then," Molecular Girl said.
She ascended into the tube as the chamber powered down.
Guardian's Chamber
"What's wrong?" Molecular Girl said.
"Professor E and Iron Claw have been spotted in Alaska," the Guardian said.
"Alaska? Always wanted to see it," Molecular Girl said.
"We'll bring them in this time," Decibolt said.
The portal flared open.
Snowy Fields of Alaska
Icy winds tore across the tundra as two V.S. generals stood their ground. The portal snapped shut behind Kira and Decibolt.
"Today's the last day you roam free," Molecular Girl said.
"As much as we'd love to finish you ourselves..." Professor E said.
"The V.L ordered us to use these," Iron Claw said.
They revealed the shards.
"Hiding behind summons now?" Decibolt said.
"Not just any summons—the ones you could never defeat. Lizzy!" Iron Claw said.
"Techno!" Professor E said.
The air distorted.
"Techno Cube, initialize," Techno said.
Energy folded around him as his form shifted.
"Techno, haven't seen you since Ronotil," Lizzy said.
"Yeah, it's been a while," Techno said.
His gaze locked onto Kira and Decibolt.
"So, fighting you two again," Techno said.
"You escaped my Electromiack once. Did they escape you too?" Lizzy said.
"I let them go with a warning. They didn't listen," Techno said.
"Same here. They refused my ultimatum," Lizzy said.
"Can you blame them? We'd have done the same," Techno said.
"Enough chatter. We summoned you to destroy them—do it!" Professor E said.
"New summoners, huh? Fine. Let's get this over with," Techno said.
We barely bruised them alone. Now together... Decibolt thought.
"Panicking won't help. We put differences aside and fight as a team," Molecular Girl said.
Lizzy moved first. Electromiack blades formed and slashed forward. Techno followed, lightning crackling around his fists.
Decibolt twisted aside from Lizzy's swing. Techno slammed him into the snow with a sparking punch.
Kira lunged but was struck by Lizzy, skidding back before landing on her feet.
"Remember—together!" Molecular Girl said.
She leapt.
"Full Body Repulsion!" Molecular Girl said.
The shockwave hurled them into the snow.
"DeciCannon!" Decibolt said.
Energy blasted them back.
"Kinetic Punch Barrage!" Molecular Girl said.
Lizzy absorbed the strikes into a swelling Electromiack mass. It split into dozens of shuriken, crackling as Techno electrified them.
Explosions tore across the field. They dodged, but several struck, binding them.
"Got you," Techno said, smirking.
His recoiled the energy and kicked them down. Lizzy drew the Electromiack back into herself.
"Faster, tougher—but still beneath us," Lizzy said.
"We need quicker, stronger attacks," Molecular Girl said, panting.
"Use the terrain. Push them under that hill—I'll trigger an avalanche," Decibolt said.
"Alright," Molecular Girl said.
Her aura flared.
"Molecular Taijutsu!" Molecular Girl said.
Palm strikes locked Techno in place. Lizzy lunged, but Kira repelled her with rapid, quadruple strikes.
"Sonic Pulse Blast!" Decibolt said.
Snow collapsed over them.
"That won't hold them," Molecular Girl said.
"Supersonic Decibolt—Sonic Platforms!" Decibolt said.
Ran over them before DeciCannons buried them deeper.
"Enough!" Techno said.
Electric Fury erupted, blasting the snow apart.
"Techno's power level: 773. Lizzy's: 775," Molecular Girl said, scanning.
"You've grown stronger, but it's still obsolete. Electro Fury 39!" Techno said.
Bolts ripped through the field. Electromiack tendrils wrapped around them.
"R-Repulsion Field!" Molecular Girl said.
The energy collapsed into sparks. She tore Decibolt free.
"We've taken so much damage... and they're barely bruised," Molecular Girl said.
"We can't back down now," Decibolt said.
"Sonic Step?" Decibolt said.
"Let's do it," Molecular girl said.
He surged forward. Gravity bent. Lizzy countered sending him flying. Techno crashed him down with an Electron Star.
"Time for more Electromiack," Lizzy said.
She placed her hands on the ground, Electromiack seeping into it. Tendrils burst from the ground, hurling them skyward.
"Electro Fury 13!" Techno said.
A cannon of electricity blasted them down. They struggled to rise.
"Kinetic Punch Barrage!" Molecular Girl said.
"Sonic Storm!" Decibolt said.
Techno shattered the attacks, with streams of electricity.
"Electro Fury 5!" Techno said.
(A ring of electricity encircled them, electrocuting them. Lizzy coated her fist in Electromiack and punched them down.
"Pathetic. You must have had a terrible mentor," Lizzy said.
"Look who's talking—your mentor nearly conquered the universe," Techno said.
"That's different," Lizzy said.
"You were heroes once. Now you fight for villains. You're becoming just like him" Molecular Girl said.
"Ronotil was female—and I'm nothing like her," Lizzy said.
"Your actions say otherwise. Cities destroyed, banks robbed—you're following her path," Molecular Girl said.
"Stop stalling. Bury them!" Professor E said.
"We're heroes, not villains," Techno said.
"We won't hurt innocents," Lizzy said.
They clutched their heads.
"We don't have long. Stronger summons can resist, but not forever," Lizzy said.
"Once control returns, they'll water down our attacks—but defeating us will still be hard," Techno said.
"And the V.L... is planning something huge. Whatever you do, don't—" Lizzy said.
Control snapped back.
"They almost exposed the V.L's plan!" Professor E said.
"Techno, Lizzy—destroy them now!" Iron Claw said.
Electromiack slammed into them. Lightning crushed them down.
"We've been wrong. Their powers complement each other perfectly. We need to split them up—one on one. I'll take Lizzy," Molecular Girl said.
"No, I'll take Lizzy. I'm stronger," Decibolt said.
"It's not about strength. Your sonic waves counter Techno's electricity. I can handle Lizzy's Electromiack," Molecular Girl said.
"Fine. Then let's crush them," Decibolt said.
He tackled Techno into a ripple portal.
The battlefield split.
