Chapter 1:

Foreword

The Queen of Coils

Brother Constantine,

I hope this e-mail finds you well, or, at the very least, better off than I am. Though the latter is, admittedly, easy to achieve. More on that later, however.

You may or may not remember, but I visited your monastery once in the past, while collecting materials about exorcisms, vampire slayings, and other similar feats for which you were famous. It has been several years since then, but you were the first person to come to mind who could possibly assist me with a grave matter. I hope you will hear me out.

Before anything, however, I must apologize.

Firstly, I apologize for treating your work with skepticism (one might even say disdain), typical of a modern-day city dweller. I now know better. Had I taken the existence of malevolent otherworldly entities somewhat more seriously, there might’ve been no need for this sort of desperate messages.

Secondly, I apologize if, at any point during my story , I go on a seemingly unimportant tangent or start rambling. Focusing too much on the main topic of this narrative may have disastrous consequences to my well-being, and time is a resource much too precious to waste on editing the final text.

Finally, I apologize for involving you in this mess in the first place. Things tend to go poorly for those connected to this story, and you may find yourself in very real danger. Unlike those unfortunate individuals and, indeed, myself, I believe you may have the knowledge and expertise to deal with it. In any case, I advise you to exercise caution.

Now, onto the matter at hand. Thankfully, not even your remote monastery is spared from the long arm of the Internet. Thus, I reach out to you in this manner. Attached to this e-mail, you will find a recollection of recent events. Hopefully, these will be enough for you to figure out how dangerous the present situation is and how to deal with it.

I also intend to personally deliver a physical copy to you tomorrow, in case this message doesn’t get through. In addition, I will bring what may or may not be a helpful artefact. For what it’s worth, it is likely to be just a mundane object, but I’m grasping for any straws I can.

Hopefully, I will see you soon. May God help you – nay, may God help us all.

M.N.
