The next morning, Takeshi woke up to the sound of light rain against his window. It was a soothing sound, a world away from the usual city noise. He dressed for school quickly, feeling a strange sensation in his chest—a feeling similar to the day before: a mix of curiosity and a hint of anxiety. He left the house and took his usual route toward school. The rain didn't stop him; instead, it made the colors of the street more vibrant. The reflections of lights on the wet pavement mirrored his own emotions—fragmented, but present. When he reached the courtyard, he noticed the tree again.Cherry blossom petals were scattering with the raindrops, and the scent of damp earth hung in the air.He saw her.She was sitting there, a small book in her hands, scanning the pages with focus. She didn’t notice him arriving, but his heart fluttered as if she knew he was watching her.He stepped closer until he was only a few feet away."Good morning... Misaki."He said it softly. She looked up and offered a shy smile."Good morning. I was wondering if the rain would stop you from coming."He sat near her on the wooden bench. At first, they didn’t speak. It was just silence—a gentle, kind silence where their mere presence together felt like enough.Misaki broke the silence:"I spent yesterday thinking... about the game we talked about."Takeshi smiled. He didn’t reply at first, but he felt a small spark rise within him.She said:"If you’d like, we can play together after school... to see who’s better."She laughed softly, and her voice sounded like music to him.Takeshi replied with a tiny, barely visible smile:"I accept the challenge..."A few moments passed as they both looked up at the gray sky, where raindrops fell gently, mimicking their new emotions. Not many words were spoken, but the air was filled with something that wasn't there yesterday: a small sense of comfort, curiosity, and a shared space between two hearts. The bell rang, signaling the end of the break. They stood up together and began walking toward the classrooms. With every step, Takeshi felt for the first time that school wasn't entirely a dark place, and that there were small corners of light where he could find himself... and perhaps find her too.At the end of the day, as he was leaving school, he looked back toward the tree once more.He saw Misaki waving at him with a small smile. His eyes caught every falling petal and every new emotion floating inside him.He didn't know what would happen next, but he knew one thing:Today was different, and the coming days might bring something new.Chapter 5: Small MomentsThe following morning, Takeshi left his house feeling a strange lightness—something he hadn't felt in a long time. The sky was relatively clear after the rain, and the breeze carried the scent of wet earth and flowers. He felt as if everything around him was sharper... as if the world had finally begun to notice his existence. When he reached the courtyard, Misaki had arrived before him. She sat on the wooden bench, sketching lightly in her notebook. She turned to him as he approached and gave him a warm smile."Good morning, Takeshi!" she said in a cheerful, genuine tone."Morning... Misaki," he replied, smiling shyly. He sat beside her, and the silence between them was different from before. It wasn't heavy; it was filled with something pleasant, as if every word could wait until the right time.Suddenly, Misaki said:"There’s a small festival at school today... do you want to come with me?"Takeshi hesitated for a moment. Usually, he didn't like crowded places, but he found himself saying:"Okay... I’ll go with you."She smiled happily. "Great! I’ll show you some of my favorite spots."Throughout the day, they wandered together through the school corridors and open hallways. Misaki explained everything with enthusiasm, while he listened, smiled, and occasionally laughed at small details he had never noticed before. When they sat on a bench slightly away from the crowds, Misaki said quietly:"Sometimes I feel like no one understands me... but with you, I feel like someone is actually listening."Takeshi looked at her, not knowing what to say. He didn't need words; his smile was enough.A few beautiful moments of silence passed, then she added:"I'm happy you're here, Takeshi... really."He smiled again and tilted his head toward the sky, watching the passing clouds.I feel the same warmth... something I’ve never known before. On their way back, he felt his heart lighten from the loneliness he had carried his whole life. Every step with Misaki was like a small moment of light amidst the shadows. As the day ended, she waved at him with a smile:"See you tomorrow!"He followed her with his eyes until she disappeared among the students. Then he looked at the sky, at the falling petals, and understood one thing:Perhaps, this time, I won't be alone anymore.
