Chapter 5:
Now, let me conquer this world!
The dense, overgrown jungle is unbearably hot and persistently sticky, leaving a damp layer of humidity clinging uncomfortably to our skin. We crouch low to the ground, carefully hiding our presence behind the sprawling, thick leaves of a giant ancient bush.
"Look over there", I whisper, gently parting the foliage to get a clearer view of the clearing ahead.
A roving group of grotesquely ugly green goblins currently struggles to hold up a heavy, intricately woven rope net. Trapped helplessly inside the coarse mesh are three incredibly cute, trembling children who look absolutely terrified by their captors.
"They are kidnapping kids", Ishida says, his voice dripping with sudden heroic realization.
He turns his head and looks directly at Amiya with a highly arrogant, condescending smirk playing on his lips.
"Go be useful, muscle brain", Ishida commands.
Instantly, Amiya blushes a deep shade of crimson, and she begins to breathe heavily in a strange, misplaced excitement.
"Yes, order me around more", Amiya begs, entirely lost in her own bizarre, masochistic fantasies.
She bursts out from the safety of the giant bush, tightly gripping the hilt of her massive silver sword as she charges the enemies.
"Hit me, you green freaks!" Amiya screams.
However, instead of unleashing a devastating attack, she simply drops her heavy weapon onto the forest floor and opens her muscular arms wide, eagerly waiting to absorb a beating. The startled goblins are extremely confused by this thoroughly unhinged display. Exchanging bewildered glances, they decide to completely ignore her presence and focus on their captives instead.
Seeing a golden opportunity to prove her immense magical prowess, Meiyi confidently steps forward, firmly gripping her ominously glowing staff.
"I will show them true darkness", Meiyi chants, channeling her volatile magical energy.
She intensely tries to cast a devastating dark explosion spell to obliterate the green monsters in a single strike. But suddenly, a tiny, completely harmless jungle lizard slips from the leafy canopy of a tall tree. It falls through the air and gracefully lands right on the very top of her giant witch hat.
"A dragon!" Meiyi cries in pure, unadulterated horror.
Overwhelmed by sheer, irrational panic, she instantly faints from the shock and falls completely flat on her face against the damp earth. Diana lets out a long, exhausted sigh at the sheer incompetence of her peers and expertly pulls out her twin sharp daggers from their sheaths.
"I will handle this quickly", Diana says, her eyes narrowing with lethal, professional focus.
She dashes forward into the clearing, sprinting significantly faster than the howling jungle wind itself. Suddenly, a small, inquisitive wild jungle cat jumps playfully out of the tall, swaying grass directly into her path.
"Meow!" it purrs softly.
"A deadly beast!" Diana shrieks, her cool assassin's composure instantly shattering into a million pathetic pieces.
In a desperate blur of terrified motion, she abruptly abandons her mission, climbs high up into the branches of a tall tree, and cries loudly for salvation. It is a profound, deeply depressing realization that our carefully assembled team is entirely useless in every conceivable combat scenario.
Utterly unbothered by the collective failure unraveling around him, Ishida laughs with booming arrogance and dramatically draws his gleaming sword from its scabbard.
"Step aside and watch a real hero", Ishida boasts, puffing out his chest with unwarranted pride.
He boldly walks directly up to the biggest, most physically intimidating goblin of the vile pack.
"Prepare to die, ugly trash".
The massive goblin does not even blink at the grandiose, heavily rehearsed threat. Without uttering a single grunt, the creature just casually lifts its muscular foot and powerfully kicks Ishida right in the balls. A horribly loud, sickening cracking sound echoes loudly throughout the suddenly quiet jungle air. Ishida immediately turns a vibrant, choking shade of purple as all the breath leaves his lungs. His eyes instantly roll back deep into his head as his unearned bravado completely vanishes into the ether. He drops heavily to his trembling knees in total, silent agony.
"My future harem", Ishida squeaks softly, his glorious dreams flashing before his watering eyes.
With his final ounce of strength entirely depleted, he tips forward and falls face-first into a puddle of dirty mud.
Watching the utter destruction of my comrades' dignity, I sigh loudly and tiredly push my long pink hair back out of my eyes.
"I have to do everything myself", I complain, finally accepting the heavy, inevitable burden of competence.
Reaching into my hidden tactical pouches, I swiftly pull out my trusty explosive grenades. Taking careful, calculated aim, I forcefully throw three of them directly at the group of completely bewildered goblins. A devastatingly massive explosion violently shakes the solid jungle ground beneath our feet. The sheer, concussive force of the fiery blast effortlessly blows the green goblins far away into the vast blue sky, sending them spinning wildly over the horizon like discarded toys. The heavy rope net completely breaks open in the ensuing shockwave, ensuring that the three cute children are finally safe and free to run back to their village.
I meticulously clean the accumulating dirt and grime off my dress, restoring some small semblance of order to the chaotic day. With a heavy, deeply suffering heart, I slowly begin to drag the unconscious Ishida and the rest of our utterly defeated team by their collars out of the sweltering jungle.
"Next time, I am charging extra for this".
Conquering this chaotic, unpredictable world is proving to be a very exhausting endeavor.
