Chapter 6:

Nigel

Kitty

As Nigel left Abaddon's office, he couldn't help but wonder how this creature was supposedly running rampant in Hell and he hadn't picked it up on any of the surveillance cameras. This whole place was covered in cameras, how could it be moving around without detection?

"Well, I guess I'll start at the Children's Ward, and see if they know anything." He pondered aloud to himself as he walked leisurely down the corridor.

Nigel turned the corner heading toward the Children's Ward. He whistled a tune as he jingled his keys with his webbed reptilian fingers. The thing about Nigel was that he had a knack for surveillance. If something was going on, he knew about it. He was the first to know just about everything. Between all his cameras, and the personal connections he had with the Gossip Gals, he prided himself in always knowing the scoop on everyone and everything. All the more reason this "Girl" situation baffled him.

As he rounded the last corner, he was met with the hulking frame of Henry, coming the opposite way.

"Afternoon, Henry! What's happening? You look like you're in a hurry." Nigel craned his neck to look up at Henry's face.

"Sorry, Nigel, no time to talk, looking for something." Henry stammered as he gazed over Nigel's head and down the hall, his eyes scanning for any more hand prints or indications the girl might have gone this way.

"Oh, really? You don't say. What is it? I'll keep an eye out for ya."

Henry paused for a moment. What if he and Nigel looked for the girl together? Nigel does have a knack for locating missing things. Henry suspected that was, at least, in part, due to the fact  that Nigel stole those items in the first place. Of course he knew where they were. And he loved accepting grandiose rewards for his trouble. But maybe this slime-ball could help him track the girl down? On the other hansd, he could turn the girl in to Abaddon himself and take all the credit. No, absolutely not. Best to keep working alone.

"Oh, uh, nothing. Never mind. Hey, what are you doing down in the kids wing? I thought you stopped coming down here after, you know, with Veronica..." Henry trailed off, realizing he no longer wanted to finish the sentence he had started.

"Yeah, I, uh, I was coming to fix a camera in the Toddler Terror Room. One of them is on the fritz again, ya know?" Nigel didn't exactly want to divulge the true reason for his visit to this wing. Mostly because the Big Guy might actually rip him him limb from limb if he messed this up.

"Oh, sure. Well, enjoy the Terror Room. I heard they're like piranhas in there. Watch your ankles." Henry smiled to himself as he thought of Nigel being eaten alive by piranha-children.

Nigel headed onward to the Toddler Terror Room. Arriving at the doors, he stood for a moment breathing deeply. He hadn't set foot in this room since the day that Veronica, the Love of his Afterlife, told him she never wanted to see him again. The day his shriveled-up heart broke into tiny pieces. The two had been inseparable for thousands of years, they did everything together. He helped her with the kids in the ward, and in turn, she helped him with intel collection, as one of the Founding Gossip Gals. Then, one day, she decided ol' Nigel wasn't good enough anymore. Told him to hit the bricks. He was profoundly devastated by her rejection, and vowed to win back her affection, if it took a thousand years. It had, in fact, been 987 years since the split. He hadn't thought it would actually take a thousand years, but here we are.

Nigel took a deep breath, and pushed open the doors to the Toddler Terror Room.
