Chapter 8:
I Have Terrible Social Anxiety, But the School Thinks I’m a Yakuza Boss, and the Disciplinary President is Trying to "Tame" Me Through Marriage!
The dense, ancient woods located directly behind the expansive high school grounds offer a rare, deeply cherished sanctuary for Ryuu Kuroda. The thick canopy of emerald leaves successfully blocks the blinding afternoon sun, and the isolated environment guarantees an absolute absence of terrifying social interactions. Ryuu walks slowly along the damp dirt path, tightly clutching a newly purchased fantasy manga to his chest. He desperately wants to find a quiet, comfortable tree root to sit upon so he can read his book in absolute peace.
Suddenly, his heavy boots stop near a patch of soft moss. A tiny, fragile sparrow lies completely motionless on the forest floor. Ryuu stares down at the unfortunate creature, his heart immediately sinking with profound, genuine sorrow. He possesses a deeply sensitive soul that aches for all living things.
He slowly drops to his knees in the damp dirt. Because he constantly worries about being judged by his peers, he rapidly and nervously scans the surrounding trees with wide, glowing eyes. His prominent facial scar stretches tightly across his pale cheek, and his brow furrows into a dark, intense grimace. He furiously hacks at the damp earth with a sharp, broken branch, desperately trying to dig a proper, respectful resting place for the fallen bird before anyone sees him acting so incredibly soft and vulnerable.
Hidden deep within a cluster of thorny bushes just ten yards away, Kenta, the highly ambitious president of the school journalism club, holds his breath. Kenta tightly grips a heavy DSLR camera, his palms sweating profusely. He is a perfectly normal, incredibly determined student who firmly believes the terrifying rumors surrounding Ryuu are entirely true. Kenta makes it his personal, heroic mission to finally expose the demonic underworld boss to the light of justice.
Kenta peers through the telescopic camera lens. He observes Ryuu furiously stabbing the ground with a sharp wooden stake, his face twisted into a highly terrifying, murderous scowl. Ryuu rapidly buries a small, unidentifiable object and carefully pats the dark soil into a neat, rectangular mound.
"I have him now", Kenta whispers to himself, his fingers rapidly pressing the shutter button. Click, click, click. "He buries illicit contraband, or perhaps the bloody evidence of his latest violent extortion".
The very next morning, the entire school violently buzzes with chaotic, nervous energy. The front page of the official school newspaper features a massive, grainy, highly dramatic black-and-white photograph of Ryuu kneeling in the dark woods. The bold, aggressive headline screams, "The Dark Deeds of the Demon Boss: What Lies Buried in the Shadows?".
Ryuu completely ignores the swirling chaos. He sits at his wooden desk in Class 2-B, staring blankly out the window. He feels a quiet sense of relief knowing the tiny sparrow rests safely in the earth. He has absolutely no idea that his face is currently plastered across hundreds of paper copies circulating throughout the terrified student body.
Reina Arisugawa stands in the center of the student council room, holding the freshly printed newspaper in her perfectly manicured hands. Her sharp, highly intelligent eyes narrow as she heavily analyzes the grainy photograph. She stares intently at the small, perfectly rectangular mound of dirt Ryuu constructed.
She does not see a desperate attempt to expose a crime. She sees a highly calculated, absolutely terrifying psychological warfare tactic.
"A miniature, unmarked grave", Reina whispers softly, her voice trembling slightly with profound, overwhelming respect. "He does not bury evidence. He sends a direct, highly symbolic warning message to his hidden enemies. He physically demonstrates that their entire, pathetic existence can be effortlessly erased and buried in a hole no larger than a simple shoebox".
The terrifying interpretation spreads through the school hallways like a violent, uncontrollable wildfire. The student body entirely ignores Kenta's written article about illicit contraband. Instead, they completely embrace Reina's horrifying theory. The small, rectangular mound is universally accepted as a chilling, mafia-style calling card - a promise of absolute destruction for anyone who dares to cross the Kuroda Syndicate.
Kenta stands entirely alone in the crowded hallway, violently shaking in his standard school uniform. His grand, heroic crusade completely backfires in the most disastrous way imaginable. He realizes with absolute, gut-wrenching horror that he did not expose a mere thug. He publicly documented a master assassin's darkest, most lethal calling card. Kenta deeply believes that the supreme demon boss now knows exactly who stalks him in the shadows.
From the opposite end of the long corridor, Ryuu slowly approaches. He holds a crumpled copy of the school newspaper in his right hand. In reality, Ryuu only wants to politely ask the journalism president if the newspaper contains a daily crossword puzzle section, as his phone battery is currently dead.
As Ryuu walks forward, the surrounding students instantly press their bodies flat against the metal lockers, parting like the Red Sea in sheer terror. Ryuu breathes heavily, his throat incredibly dry from the immense social pressure of walking through a crowded space. His terrifying "Resting Murder Face" is on full display.
Kenta sees the demon boss marching directly toward him, holding the very newspaper that contains the photographic evidence of the terrifying warning grave. Kenta's brave, journalistic resolve shatters into a million tiny, irreparable pieces.
Before Ryuu can even open his dry mouth to ask about the crossword puzzle, Kenta violently drops to his bruised knees on the hard linoleum floor.
"I am so incredibly sorry!", Kenta screams at the top of his lungs, tears streaming heavily down his pale cheeks. "I am a foolish, arrogant worm! Please do not dig a shoebox grave for me! I swear absolute, unwavering loyalty to the Kuroda Syndicate!".
Ryuu freezes completely. His panicked brain entirely short-circuits. He looks down at the weeping, trembling boy, and then he slowly looks down at the newspaper in his hand. He opens his mouth, but only a deep, raspy, terrifying exhale escapes his frozen vocal cords.
"Your silence is deafening!", Kenta wails, pressing his forehead directly against Ryuu's dusty school shoes. "Please spare my miserable life!".
From a safe distance down the hall, Reina Arisugawa writes furiously in her leather notebook, a bright, proud blush coloring her cheeks.
"He crushes the investigative media and forces a total surrender without uttering a single, solitary word", she notes with fierce admiration. "His absolute control over the flow of information is truly flawless".
