Chapter 7:
Seven lost keijus
Chapter 8: The Path Forward – Limits and Peace
The board lit up again.
MATCH 10 – SHIZUKE (Vision Clan) vs. REN (Speed Clan)
The crowd reacted immediately. "Him again." "Against Speed Clan?" "This'll be interesting."
Shizuke stood from his spot against the wall. He walked toward the arena. No expression. No hesitation.
In the stands, Shine watched. Her hands clasped together. Good luck…
---
Match 10: Shizuke vs. Ren
Shizuke stepped into the arena. Still. Silent. His pale purple eyes half‑lidded. The same aura as always – untouchable, unreadable.
Ren burst in – a Speed Clan girl with blonde hair, grinning. Unlike Jin, she was more intense, more focused. Her eyes burned with determination.
"Shizuke! The traitor's son! I've been waiting for this!"
"Why?"
"Because everyone says you never attack. Everyone says you just dodge. Everyone says you're untouchable." She cracked her neck and rolled her shoulders. "I want to see if that's true. I want to see if I can touch you. I want to see if I can BEAT you."
Shizuke said flatly, "…Try."
Saki raised her hand. "BEGIN."
---
Ren vanished – not figuratively, she was gone.
"VELOCITY BURST – MAXIMUM!"
She appeared behind him, a kick aimed at his spine. Shizuke stepped forward – inches – the kick missed.
She appeared left – punch – he ducked.
Right – kick – he leaned.
Above – elbow drop – he slid.
Ren grinned. "FASTER!"
She attacked again – faster than Jin ever had. Shizuke's eyes widened slightly. He barely dodged.
She's faster than Jin, he thought. More controlled. More focused. More dangerous.
Ren attacked again – afterimages appearing, three, four, five of her. Shizuke moved – dodged three – the fourth grazed his arm.
First hit.
Ren's voice was excited. "GOT YOU!"
Shizuke looked at his arm. A small cut. Blood. "…Impressive."
"I'M NOT DONE!"
---
Ren attacked again and again. Faster. Harder. More unpredictable.
Shizuke dodged – but barely. Each time closer, each time harder.
"MOMENTUM SHIFT – PHANTOM STEP!"
Afterimages everywhere – attacking from all angles. Shizuke's eyes flared – Vision patterns spinning faster. He saw them all. But seeing and moving were different.
He dodged two – three – the fourth hit his shoulder – SMACK! – he stumbled, recovered.
Ren appeared in front of him, a punch aimed at his face. He moved – it grazed his cheek.
"I'M TOUCHING YOU! I'M ACTUALLY TOUCHING YOU!"
She was laughing now – not mocking, but thrilled.
"Everyone said you were untouchable! But I'M TOUCHING YOU!"
Shizuke's expression didn't change. But his eyes were calculating.
"Yes. You are."
He looked at her – really looked.
"You're fast. Faster than anyone I've faced. More determined. More focused."
Ren grinned. "Thanks!"
"But speed without control is chaos. And you're losing control."
Ren looked down. She was breathing hard. Sweating. Her legs shook slightly.
"I'm… I'm getting tired…"
"You gave everything. Every ounce of speed. Every technique. You didn't hold back."
He straightened. His aura remained – calm, collected, untouched despite the hits.
"Now you have nothing left."
---
Ren stood up straight and grinned wider.
"You think I'm done? You think that's all I have?"
She laughed.
"VELOCITY BURST – AFTERBURN!"
Her body glowed – chi burning at maximum – pushing past her limits.
"She's overloading herself!" a spectator shouted. "That's dangerous!"
Ren zoomed – faster than before – afterimages everywhere – attacking from all sides.
Shizuke's eyes flared – Vision patterns at maximum. He saw them all. Every trajectory. Every angle.
He moved – dodged one, two, three, four – a fifth hit his side – he stumbled – a sixth hit his leg – he dropped to one knee.
Ren appeared before him. "I GOT YOU!"
She wound up for the final strike.
Shizuke looked up at her. His eyes were calm.
"Yes. You did."
He saw it – the exact moment, the exact angle, the exact point where she couldn't change direction. She was committed. Full power. No turning back.
He moved – not to dodge, but to intercept.
His finger touched her chest – lightly – at the exact moment her momentum was fully committed.
"No—!"
She couldn't stop, couldn't change, couldn't do anything. She spun, tried to recover – but her own speed betrayed her. She stumbled, staggered – her foot crossed the line.
"NOOOOO—!"
She fell. Outside the arena.
THUD.
Silence.
Shizuke stood slowly. Blood from his cuts. Bruises forming. But standing. Calm. His aura intact – not broken, not diminished.
Then the crowd exploded.
Saki announced, "Winner: Shizuke of the Vision Clan!"
Ren lay in the dirt, staring at the sky, chest heaving. Then she laughed – loud, genuine, respectful.
"HAHAHA! You… you took EVERYTHING I had! You let me hit you! You let me exhaust myself! And STILL you won!"
Shizuke walked to the edge. Looked down at her. His aura remained – quiet, powerful, untouchable in spirit.
"You're faster than anyone I've faced. Stronger. More determined. You hit me four times. No one has ever done that."
He paused.
"If you learn control… if you learn patience… you'll be unstoppable."
Ren stared at him, then grinned wider. "Next time… I WON'T run out of stamina! Next time… I'LL WIN! Next time… you won't walk away untouched!"
Shizuke almost – almost – nodded.
He walked away. Limping slightly. But still Shizuke. Still the traitor's son. Still untouchable in the ways that mattered.
---
Shizuke walked through the crowd. People parted for him – still afraid, still uncertain. But now there was something else in their eyes. Respect.
Shine stepped into his path. Her voice was quiet, sincere. "That was incredible."
Shizuke stopped. Looked at her. "You watched?"
"I always watch your matches."
A long pause.
"She hit you. Four times. That's the first time I've seen anyone really hurt you."
"…Yes."
"Did it hurt?"
Shizuke stared at her. No one had ever asked him that.
"…A little."
Shine nodded. "Good. Means you're human."
She smiled – warm, genuine.
"See you tomorrow."
She walked away.
Shizuke watched her go. …Human. Maybe that's not so bad.
---
Evening – The Camp
Sunset. Fires lighting across the valley.
Isami sat with his friends. Everyone was tired but content.
"Today's match was amazing. Kimara was so good."
Hakimaru nodded. "Good day for our group."
Yin agreed. "Everyone fought well. Everyone grew. Everyone bled."
Kimara said quietly, "Haruki was strong. Really strong. If he had one more second…"
Isami cut in, "But you didn't lose!"
"…No. I didn't."
Nearby, Kai walked past. He saw Kimara, grinned, and waved. "Nice fight, princess! You almost died!"
Kimara glared. "Don't call me that."
"Too late!" He kept walking.
Isami scowled. "I still don't like him."
"You've said that."
"I'll keep saying it."
Hakimaru smirked. Yin smiled.
---
Yin and Hakimaru – Night
Later, after everyone had gone to their tents, Yin sat by the dying fire.
Hakimaru emerged from the shadows. He sat beside her.
A long silence.
"You're still awake," he said.
"So are you."
"I don't sleep much."
"I know."
Another pause.
"The fire is low. You should rest."
Yin shook her head gently. "The night is loud. Too many sounds. Too many heartbeats."
"…Mine too?"
Yin tilted her head. Listened. Then she smiled softly. "Yours is steady. Like a drum. Calm."
"Good."
He didn't move. Didn't leave.
"You don't have to stay."
"I know."
"Then why?"
Hakimaru looked at the fire, then at her. "Because you asked me to. Without words. But I heard it anyway."
Yin's blind eyes widened slightly. "…You hear me."
"Always."
They sat together. The fire crackled softly. Yin's shoulders relaxed. For the first time all day, she looked peaceful.
"Thank you," she whispered.
"Always," he whispered back.
---
Ryosuke and Yotoro
Near the Figure Clan tents, Ryosuke sat alone – but not sadly. Peacefully.
Yotoro approached and sat beside him without a word.
A long silence.
"You won."
"I know."
"Good fight."
"Thanks."
Another silence.
"Using her threads against her. Walking through the wolves. That was smart."
"I learned from Isami."
Yotoro almost smiled. "The chi‑less boy."
"He taught me that heart matters more than power. He taught me that giving up is the only real failure."
Yotoro looked at him – really looked. "You have heart, Ryosuke. You always did. You just needed to believe it."
Ryosuke's eyes grew wet. He didn't wipe them. "I'm starting to."
Yotoro put a heavy hand on his shoulder. "Good. Because I've always believed in you. I just didn't know how to say it."
Ryosuke looked at him – really looked. "…Thanks, brother."
They sat together. Brothers. Not Paragon and failure. Just brothers.
---
Shizuke and Shine
Shizuke sat at the edge of camp. As always. But tonight, he wasn't completely alone.
Shine approached again. This time she didn't ask – she just sat beside him.
She held out a small wrapped bundle.
"Dinner."
He looked at it, then took it.
"You keep doing this."
"I know."
"Why?"
"Because you keep eating it. And because… someone should."
For half a second – just half a second – he almost smiled.
Shine noticed but didn't say anything. "Tomorrow I fight again."
"I know."
"Will you watch?"
A long pause. Then: "…Yes."
Shine smiled – bright, warm. "Good. That's all I needed."
They ate in silence. Comfortable silence.
---
The High Table – Night
Kusicame stood alone. Saki approached.
"Yashiroyin. Three matches today. All of them… extraordinary."
Kusicame nodded. "Ryosuke proved himself. Kimara showed her adaptability. Shizuke showed his limits – and surpassed them anyway."
"And the Speed Clan leader? Still absent."
Kusicame's voice was calm. "Yutosushi will appear when he's ready. Until then… we watch. We wait. We trust."
They looked out at the camp. Thousands of lights. Thousands of stories. Thousands of dreams.
The night was peaceful.
---
Final Montage
The view moved across the camp:
Ryosuke slept peacefully for the first time, a small smile on his face.
Kimara stared at the stars, thinking about Haruki, about the fight, about winning by a hair. Nearby, Kai lounged, glancing toward her tent, still grinning but with something softer in his eyes.
Shizuke was still awake, but Shine was beside him – closer than before. Their shoulders almost touching. She slept, her head resting against the wall, peaceful, trusting.
Yotoro watched over his brother from the shadows, pride in his eyes.
Yin and Hakimaru sat by the dying fire – not speaking, just present. Her head rested lightly on his shoulder. He didn't move, didn't breathe differently, just… was there.
Isami clutched his pendant, whispering to parents he never knew.
I still don't know if I belong here. But today… I watched my friends become warriors. Ryosuke found his heart. Kimara fought like a demon. And Yin and Hakimaru… they found peace.
He closed his eyes.
That's enough for now.
The pendant glowed faintly in the firelight.
---
Final Shot
The camp slept peacefully under a starry sky.
Yin and Hakimaru remained by the fire. She leaned against him – completely relaxed. He sat perfectly still – her anchor, her calm.
Comfort.
Silence.
Peace
