Chapter 29:
Unforgivable Vengeance
The next day in Grandma Sanyu's home, I stirred from my sleep, sat on the bed, the blanket flowing silently on my waist, wearing my pajamas borrowed only from Grandma Sanyu. I glanced at the window, I saw my brother was already awake, and wearing something.
I squint my eyes, blocking from the warmth of sunlight across my face, I get up from the bed, drawing myself nearer at the window.
My brother shift his attention towards the small window, he knows it was just me, when I pulled the window open, my brother let a low-pitched snarl, baring his razor sharp teeth gleamed in sunlight. I shook my head, crossing my arms with smirk playing on my lips.
"Oh come on, brother! It's just me! You're always be like that!"
He paused, let a low guttural purr. "Why are you wearing a saddle?" I asked, tilt my head in curiosity, I'd realized he was wearing a saddle, his massive shadow loomed the small house, massive footsteps reverted, making the ground trembled. His massive head lowered, nostrils flared as he leaned close, tongue sticking out. I laughed, patting his massive snout.
"Alright, big guy! Are you eating again!?" I asked, scratching his chin making him purred even louder, tongue flicks out, his massive head gestured towards something. I realized, Grandma Sanyu invented a ridable with care; not just for him, for me to travel without struggles from falling.
"Kyou! You've better not to—! Oh…"
I snapped my attention to her, my little brother snorted, his jaws still covered in crimson from his another meal. "Grandma? What's my brother's wearing?" I asked, tilted my head in curiosity.
"Oh, you mean this?" she gestured her head to my brother's back: thick leather dyed in deep brown, reinforce with metal rings, decorative threads from tree fivers, colored in nature theme, large cargo stack behind him, thick leather strap wrapped around his chest to prevent the saddle from sliding backwards during sprint or climbed in uphill. "That's handmade, I've spent myself craft this for several months." she added, pacing back and forth, tapping the tip of her staff on the wooden floor. I nodded silently one last time before standing myself from my feet, gathering my belongings before leaving.
~~~
"Grandma, thank you for taking care of us for months." I said, lowered my head in respect, alongside with my younger brother, who's now taller and stronger, wearing a leathery saddle with protection, nudging my side, I shift my attention towards him, placed my hand on his massive snout, giving a gentle pat. Grandma Sanyu stood behind the door, with a tired smile playing on her lips despite her old age, she watched me as I began to climb on my brother's back.
"You alright, bro?"
The massive rex rumbled, if he's saying I'm fine, sis. I gave him a small smile, though still concern about his new look, but at least he looked comfortable when his sister on his side.
"Okay, big guy. We're heading from nowhere—"
"Wait, little one!!"
I paused, my brother same as well, glance behind him. I asked a softly, tilted my head. "Grandma, what's wrong? Did I forgot something?"
"N-no-no, you've forgot nothing. I give you something just in case of emergency."
"What do you mean emergency?"
Grandma Sanyu picked something from her pocket before she handed me an object; shell flute. It was larger, the same size of my palm
"This flute is not just an ordinary shell from the snail I'd care since it passed away, it carries something deeper than you thought."
I stared at the object on my palm, my fingers gently curl around it, but not trying to break it, lowered my gaze. I raised my head, with a determine nod. "I promised, grandma. I'm taking care of this." I said softly, Grandma Sanyu nodded silently as she watched me climbed on my brother's back.
I glanced over my shoulder one last time, I saw her give a bid farewell wave of her hand, silently saying goodbye making my ears flattened but I gave her a silent nod one last time before shift my attention towards my own path, my brother let a low guttural rumble, he moved his massive footsteps reverberated through the woods, moving out from nowhere.
As our silhouette slowly shrinking from the further path, Grandma Sanyu smile play on her lips, mumbled under her breath one last time as she stepped inside of her empty house.
The forest was silent at night, except the sound of breathing, even the wind seemed to hold it's breath. I arrived at the hunter's camp, my gaze darkened when my gaze suddenly landed at the several cages; several juvenile triceratops, chirped weakly inside the small cage, calling for their mother from another large cage, the rest was from another living things.
My brother let a whimper, almost he's crying as he stared at the couple of the fossilized T-Rexes; His parents, alongside his four siblings who passed away from ambush. I glanced at him with concern look forming on her face, give him a gentle pat on the top of his head.
"It's okay, I know you miss them. I miss them too." I said, before shift my attention back towards the hunters, gaze darkened in more dangerous than they thought.
"I made them pay, I'll tear their flesh apart, drinking every single of their blood boiling through my veins." I mumbled under my breath, clenching my first against my side, my hands throbbed in anger as I observed the hunters celebrating, laughing with a sound of clattering glass, cheering while I'm stay hidden from the shadows of grief and lost of my family.
~~~
"Haha! We found the dino family! Let's sell it in the museum—!" the hunter's laugh vanished as the spear suddenly landed behind him, pressed deeper against his back, exposed the sharp tip of the fossilized teeth, belonged to the T-Rex, leaving his jaw dropped, a crimson liquid dripped on his jaws, his fellow hunter's eyes widened in horror as their comrade has been assassinated, collapse on his knees and his head landed on the pile of grass, exposing the spear stuck from his back.
"Wait… it couldn't be… the dino girl is back…" the other comrade mumbled under his breath in fear, heart thundering against his chest, gaze landed from the darkness, hands trembled; he saw a four pairs of glowing eyes, slitted, stared back at them.
The celebration has been vanished, replaced from success into regret as I slowly emerging from the shadows; stay still with my brow furrowed in anger, my tail thumping behind me.
The hunters stepped backwards, their guns raised, shivering from fear. Behind me, my brother wearing a saddle emerge, his reptilian pupils slitted, let a low-pitched snarl, nostrils flared as he looked at the figures in front of him, he was already consumed in anger, after her family's death. I took a slow step forward making the them scared of the real predator in front of them, my fingers wrapped around the staff of my spear, pulling the blade away from the corpse behind me.
"So, you celebrate without me, well then… maybe I'll give you some prize from your actions."
"What do you mean—!?"
before he could respond, I lunged forward with my spear on my grip, my brother let a thunderous roar reverted the entire forest, birds flight away to flea from the danger.
The sound of wet and crunching sound, citizens screamed in agony as they slowly drowned in the wrath of the dino queen, crimson splattered everywhere, include the vehicles parked beside the camp, the shadows of the monster and his sister dancing from the light of flame, devouring, deserve as punishment who barged in my territory without permission, or be killed without leaving a word.
~~~
I standing in the large stone, holding a arm was covered in crimson on my right grip, flames cracking behind me, the scent of burning woods and copper filled my nostrils, my purple-amber eyes shining from the shadows, before letting out a high thunderous roar in mixed emotions, from pain, anger, and satisfaction.
"RRRROOOOAAAAAWWWRRR!!!!"
Living things from the cages emerge, triceratops lowered their neck frill in respect and condolences from their queen, the rest of them obeyed, lowered their head as well. The war isn't end, until I'll figured out who assassinated my family.
