Sound of an alarm clock going off.

Zooming into the second story of the house, we enter a girl's bedroom.

Blinds drawn, slivers of morning sunlight dancing on a pink duvet, under which a sleeping figure stirs.

Beep-beep-beep!

From underneath the covers, a hand reaches out, searches blindly for the source of the noise.

Beep-beep-beep!

Beep-beep—

Alarm turned off, a head of messy green bed-hair slowly emerges from the duvet.

Miyanami Midori sits up, rubs her eyes drowsily.

The middle-schooler begins talking to us, in voiceover, as we follow her through her morning routine.

Good morning, everyone!

My name is Miyanami Midori!

It's nice to meet you!

Midori, shuffling zombie-like in her pajamas, still groggy, over to the bathroom.

I'm just your average middle school student, here in the town of Umehara!

Eyes half-open, Midori brushes her teeth in front of the mirror.

People say I'm a bit of an airhead, but that's okay—I have a lot of friends at school and every day is so much fun!

Midori, fully awake now, brushes her hair, ties her hair into her signature twin-tails.

Umehara is a nice town, full of kind and wonderful people.

Back in her bedroom, Midori puts on her school uniform.

So I feel blessed to be able to spend my days here!

Then, downstairs, at the breakfast table, where she munches on a piece of toast with strawberry jam.

I always love mornings before school, because that's when I can think of all the fun I'll have today!!

Breakfast over, she grabs her book bag, and leaves out the front door.

"Micchan!!!!"

Waiting for her outside, are four girls, all dressed in the same uniform as Midori's.

One with purple hair, one with black hair, one with glasses, and the last girl is crouched down to the side, looking at a weird bug on the ground.

Midori waves at her friends.

These are my friends, everyone! We're all part of a club at school called the Flower Arrangement Club (Tentative). I was the last member to join, but it's been a lot of fun!

"Good morning, minna! Sorry to keep you waiting!"

The purple haired girl is Lotte! She has a bit of a hyperactive streak, and she likes to tease me a lot, but she's got a good heart!

Lotte returns her wave. "Oh, Micchan! Let me guess—you were daydreaming again while eating breakfast, weren't you?"

The black-haired girl sighs, albeit smiling. "… That's our Micchan, alright."

And that's Tomoe! She acts cool and serious a lot of the time, but she's one of the sweetest people I know! She has a really cute dog, too, who she loves with all her heart!

Glasses girl: "M-morning, Micchan! … (Th-that's okay, Papa says I'm a slow eater, too …)"

That girl's Hanako! She's very shy, but I think that's what makes her extra-special!

The crouching girl: "… I have never seen this bug before in my life. … New lifeform? Possibly alien in nature. Humu-humu. Must document for scientific advancement."

And that right there is Sana! Sometimes I don't really understand what she's talking about, but that's okay, because I always enjoy her unique perspective on the world!

Midori scratches the back of her hair, bashfully. "Eh-heh-heh! Sorry, guys! … Anyway, let's go to school! Yaaay! I can't wait to see what today has in store for us!"

And together, the Flower Arrangement Club (Tentative) members begin walking to school.

The bell rings.

Students file in, take their seats.

Midori sits at her desk, smiling, hands folded.

A teacher writes on the blackboard, open book in her other hand.

Our homeroom teacher is Kanemoto-sensei!

She's a bit strict, and has a habit of throwing chalk at students who talk in class, but she's really helpful and reliable if you go to her with your problems!

"Okay, class, turn to page—…"

After class is over, a series of still-frames chronicle the rest of Midori's school day.

As we slowly pan over each illustration, Midori narrates over each frozen moment in time, in her signature cheerful voice.

Eating lunch on the rooftop, with the FAC(T) members. ("It's so fun eating outside on a sunny day like today. Midori loves it when the wind blows during lunch! Eh-heh-heh!")

Getting lectured by the Disciplinary Committee's president. ("The president can be scary sometimes, but she's just doing her job! … But for some reason she always gets unusually quiet and red-faced around Lotte … I wonder why …")

Quiet study period in the library, Midori face-down in her textbook with a serious expression, Tomoe sitting beside her pointing at an equation. ("I have to study hard for exams! Midori isn't particularly smart … but Tomoe gets good grades and she helps me a lot!")

Midori, changing the homeroom pet rabbit's hay and water. ("Today it's my turn to take care of our class pet! We still have to give him a name though … I usually call him Usagi-chan, eh-heh! … What do you think we should name him, minna?")

Finally, the bell rings again, signalling the end of school.

Midori, fully animated again, skips down the hall, filled with other students going home for the day.

Now it's time for Midori's favorite part of the day!

But as she makes her way down the hall, the sky outside begins turning a strange shade of orange, despite it being nowhere near sunset yet.

Because now I get to hang out with my friends in the Flower Arrangement Club (Tentative)!

As she approaches the clubroom door, the hallway begins to grow emptier and emptier.

By the time she stands in front of the door, the hallway is completely abandoned.

Midori, alone now in the entire school, the blood-orange sky shining in through the window, the sun gone, no moon on the horizon.

And she opens the door—

—to an empty clubroom.

Ah! Looks like I'm early today!

Midori enters the room, closes the door, and takes off her indoor slippers.

Guess I'll wait for the others!

And sits at the kotatsu, alone.
