Chapter 4:
TOCCOLO
Fedex continued searching for a place that could truly belong to him, but none of the villages he encountered seemed suited to what he wanted to become.
Until he found a small village of warriors. 🏘️
It was constantly attacked by monsters, poor, and always on the verge of collapse, but precisely because of this, its inhabitants were strong. They had no choice.
And that was exactly what Fedex was l👀king for.
There he met a family who had lost their only son. When they offered him to stay with them, he immediately refused.
«It's no use, I'm telling you, I can live on my own.»
But they insisted so much that finally, incredibly, Fedex gave in.
It was then that the hardest period of his life began.
Every day he trained with the sword🗡. Every day he lost.
He had faced demons, invisible wars, and monstrous creatures... yet he had never known so many consecutive defeats. But instead of breaking him,
those losses only made him more determined.
During that training, he met people who would remain etched in his memory forever.
There was the one Fedex nicknamed "Comrade of the LEGEND", an absurd, arrogant, and theatrical name that clearly showed his enormous EGO.
Then Fabio, the instructor, hard as steel. 🦾
Rossi, calm and silent, but capable of wielding the sword better than anyone else.
And finally, Lix, always nervous, always ready to yell at someone, but who over time grew to like Fedex almost like a son.
They were different ages, different personalities, different lives.
Yet together they functioned like a true family.
Over the next few years, the village ⛪ changed radically. What had once been little more than a collection of dilapidated houses surrounded by flimsy fences𓊏 slowly began to transform into a true stronghold. 🏯The days passed quickly and intensely. The morning almost always began with training, where Fabio mercilessly beat them until they collapsed exhausted in the mud, while Rossi calmly corrected every single technical error, displaying an almost unnatural precision in his swordsmanship. Lix, on the other hand, spent half the time complaining, yelling, or insulting someone, but behind that nervous demeanor lurked a deeply loyal man, and Fedex quickly realized that he would throw himself into the fire 🔥 to protect the people he loved.
And then there was him.
The Legendary Companion.
That absurd nickname, invented by Fedex himself with all possible seriousness, had become almost an internal joke within the group, but over time it had taken on real meaning.
Of all of them, he was the person who understood Fedex more than anyone else.
Long conversations between them weren't necessary; often a look was enough
to understand each other. They fought together, laughed together, and spent entire nights ⋆.˚ ☾⭒.˚ talking about their dreams in front of the fire, while the wind slowly shook the trees around the village.
Fedex, who for most of his life had been running away without ever truly stopping, was s l o w l y beginning to lower his defenses. A hope was growing inside him that he hadn't felt in years: the idea that perhaps this could finally be the place where he could stop
forever.
And yet, the more time passed, the more that voice inside him became impossible to ignore.
It didn't speak with normal words. It was a constant presence, an ancient whisper that seemed to emerge directly from the depths of his soul and that sometimes manifested itself in the incomprehensible symbols of the Knjiga.
989 ∞3√39€39855 ∞2 836€14 8₤855∞+ ,8∞°°₤₤∞“ ∞€6 8336 83*€√5 √€+ 83₤8- ∞2 1∞+
Fedex didn't need to fully translate those words to understand their meaning. By now, the sacred book and that voice seemed to speak directly to his instincts, constantly reminding him of a truth he desperately tried to ignore.
He was living the life he'd always wanted... but on a much smaller scale.
Protecting that village made him happy, sure. Fighting alongside his friends, watching the walls grow, watching the children run safely through the streets he'd helped defend... all of this brought him peace.
However, deep within his heart 💙, there was a much greater hunger. A hunger. It had nothing to do with money 💰, glory, or combat.
It was something more dangerous.
Destiny.
And when he finally accepted that truth, he also understood that he could never ignore it.
The decision matured s l o w l y within him, like an inevitable wound. He continued to train, fight, and live with his companions for a while longer, almost trying to hold on to that happiness as long as possible, but now he knew that sooner or later the time would come to leave again.
And that day came.
There were no epic speeches or grand ceremonies. Fedex wasn't the kind of person who easily expressed his feelings, and perhaps that was precisely what made everything even more painful. When he announced his departure, a heavy silence
fell over the village. No one really tried to stop
him, because everyone had understood the same thing: Fedex belonged to the journey more than he belonged to any place.
Lix simply cursed and turned away so as not to be seen to be emotional. Fabio remained still, his arms crossed, trying to maintain his usual stern demeanor, even though his eyes clearly showed the pride in the warrior Fedex had become. Rossi, as always, remained calm, but before Fedex left, he handed him his own sword sharpening stone 🧱, a simple yet meaningful gesture.
But the hardest part was saying goodbye to the Companion of LEGEND.
The two talked for hours before leaving, sitting outside the village walls as the sun s l o w l y set behind the mountains 🌄. Neither of them was good at goodbyes, yet that night they said more than they had ever said in all their years of friendship.
When the time came to part, Fedex turned without looking back for too long, because he knew that if he did, he might never truly be able to leave.
During his travels, he had abandoned dozens of villages 🏘️, met countless people, and left behind an infinite number of faces and memories. It had almost become a habit for him.
Yet that friend, that companion whose true name would be lost to time, remained imprinted on his soul more than anyone he had ever met.
Because some people become important not for what they do, but for what they manage to leave within us even after they have disappeared from our path.
