Chapter 1:

Possession

Beast World: Primal Hunger

"C'mon already! You two are so slow."

Elara Stormwind was marching ahead of her party, Kael Stauer and Meira Kitt. She always acted this way whenever she got excited.

"Look look! Over there, slimes."

Elara called out while confidently paving her way through the underbrush. She drew her blade with practiced ease. Her posture lowered, back arched, legs coiled like springs, ready for the thrill of the hunt.
She crossed the clearing in a couple strides with her blade raised up high.

THWACK. THWACK. THWACK.

Elara dispatched three slimes with three strikes. Her heart pounded with the exhilaration of combat as the slimes slowly dissolved into piles of goop.

"Hah, these trash mobs are ju-"

Suddenly, a slime fought back. While Elara was looking elsewhere and her guard was down one slime stepped up in an act of self-sacrifice. It plastered itself across her face with a wet slap as the ooze began finding its way into each and every orifice.
Elara initially struggle although gasping for air only made it worse, trying to pull the slime off simply did nothing, and eventually she simply stopped moving. Her limp body collapsing onto her knees as the slime now had free range of her entire body.

The human body was a complicated series of tubes and transparent cell boundaries to a slime. It triggered her acid reflux as it travelled down her throat, filled her lungs as she gasped for air, explored her veins curiously. The possession started after the slime tasted something particularly interesting to it, cerebrospinal fluid.

By now the slime had travelled through the lungs and into the bloodstream. From the bloodstream to the spine. Then from the spine into the brain replacing or consuming everything in its path. It was a violent animalistic process that reflected a slime's true nature as an endlessly consuming beast created by The Sprites to manage excess waste. Although, whether by a coincidence or a plan many thousands of years in the making, this particular slime managed to climb the evolutionary ladder.

"Elara? You good?" Kael's voice rang out through the clearing as he and Meira finally caught up.

"H-Huh? Oh uh, yeah. Just spaced out a little bit."

Elara's voice returned as if nothing had happened at all. She rose to her feet with ease as well. To Elara it felt like she had just spaced out for a moment, but she didn't quite know why there was a dull throbbing pain throughout her body.

"Alright... just keep your wits about you. We're still in the Oakhaven Forest after all."

Kael chided calmly as he stepped further into the clearing. He wore thick armor and wielded a large shield with a complementary short sword. A standard loadout for the more tanky adventurers.

"Yeah, what he said."

Meira chimed in as she popped out from behind Kael's imposing form. She comparatively was rather small and somewhat feline by nature. She approached with a swagger in her step that bordered on arrogance. Her armor was light and far more typical of agile adventurers.

"So, you about ready to head back then? I think you scared off all the slimes anyways."

Kael spoke softly as he came to a stop just in front of Elara. Who looked up at him with a vague air of confusion. Her mind was hazy still as her body's new occupant settled into place.

"Yeah... I'm... I'm good. Let's head back home."
