Chapter 6:

Debiru Stays with the Nekota Family (Part 1)

Welcome to the Republic of Meows!

Luminous was looking through a list of families being considered as host homes for Debiru.

“There's someone named Mayutan in the Nekota family. He's a student at Nyarvard University. Wouldn't he be the perfect tutor for Debiru?”

“That sounds ideal. Maybe Mayutan can teach Debiru some math.”

Luminous and Kylie continued making plans on Debiru's behalf. The moment Debiru heard the word math, his face turned sour.

In the end, the Nekota family was chosen as Debiru's host family.

The day finally arrived for Debiru's first visit.

“I don't want to go after all!”

Debiru cried and stomped his feet.

“It'll be fine. I looked into it, and the mother of the Nekota family was actually one of my classmates back in high school. She's a very kind person,” said Luminous.

Luminous and Kylie somehow managed to persuade Debiru to go through with the homestay.

A servant escorted him to the Nekota family's house, then returned to the Demon King's palace, leaving Debiru all alone.

There was no turning back now.

His heart pumped blood through his body like a raging river, beating twice as hard as usual.

Whenever Debiru got nervous, he looked even scarier than normal.

Still, if he stood in front of the house forever, people might think he was suspicious, so he gathered his courage and rang the doorbell.

Mom opened the door.

Tanimaki and Ruritel had also come to the entrance because they were curious about what kind of cat Debiru was.

The moment Tanimaki saw Debiru's face, he froze in fear. Ruritel froze too. Seeing their reactions, Debiru froze as well.

“H-Hello...”

He was so nervous that even his pronunciation sounded strange.

“Welcome, Debiru!” said Mom.

Dad, Mom, and Mayutan warmly welcomed him into their home. Ruritel did her best to smile as well. Tanimaki, however, hid behind Mayutan, still frightened.

But as everyone sat together chatting and eating the cookies Mom had baked, Debiru gradually began to relax around the Nekota family. Tanimaki also realized that Debiru wasn't dangerous and finally felt at ease.

“Debiru, if there's anything you don't understand, just ask me, meow!” said Tanimaki proudly.

“Even though you only moved into this house yourself not that long ago...”

Ruritel sighed in exasperation.

In any case, the Nekota family welcomed Debiru as warmly as if he were their own son.
