Chapter 11:

Promised Day Pt.2

My Time At Yggdrasil Academy: That Time I Became The Headmaster and Slew the Legendary Nidhogg

In times of war in the ancient days. In times of strife, when all hope feels as though it is the furthest thing from you. It was inscribed by the Norn, that a savior wielding the weapons of legend would come to the aide of the meek. With devilish desire, some would wish to gather the devas and crown themselves king. King of all that breathes, king of all that fights. Ruler of the damned and ruler of the bound and chained. To fight is to die but to wage war is to breathe. Purple, deep unsettling indigo like that of fresh lavender. Splattered against the ground in a flash.

“C’mon stand up for yourself mate!! I can’t have fun with you unless you fight back” Simon said with a hearty chuckle. He stood there with a smug asymmetrical grin. He leaned on his ax and shrugged. “Man you wyverns aren’t like how they used to be….disappointing!” Simon mocked his boot slamming into the wyvern’s face. When you’re young you never expect to fight what makes you afraid. Raise your fists at the incomprehensible darkness of your own mind and fight. But coming upon the scene in town. I had no other choice.

Nightmares….Night terrors and even sleep paralysis are all manifestations of our internalized fears. This nightmare standing before me. Watching it Being abused by Simon….it felt good to watch. Like everything was going to be ok. Until it happened.

Simon raised his ax, kicking the dragon to the ground; he pinned it using his boot. Aiming his ax he positioned it on the Dragon’s neck. A figure crept silently behind Simon, their silhouette huddling creepily close to Simon’s backside.

“Stay still will ya!” Virgil said gripping my shoulder….he pulled me back and glared. “Don’t you dare interrupt a battle of pride!”
“Pride? Like you actually care about Pride Virgil?!”

“I know Simon….you fight alongside him….he will hate you”

“I’d rather be hated than have his blood on my hands,” I said pushing free from Virgil’s grasp; taking off down the road. I activated my spell and the wheel spun all while I ran.

“Damn brat!” Virgil swore.

Water, flowing ever-changing and churning constantly moving forward. Blue like the cloudless sky and faster than the days that pass away without notice. Water is a powerful comforter but also an ever marching hulking behemoth of power we cannot fathom. It’s only possible that this house would make full use of water’s ever-flowing flux. My skin turned translucent and aquamarine as if I was made entirely out of water. My hair was now a wispy watery Nile that flowed and feathered here and there beyond my control. Floating around me were six “jars” one a large rotund vase, two slim tall clay tubes, and the rest large rocky columns with one hole on the top. All of these “jars” were decorated with some manner of human visage. Each different, the first was the face of a man screaming clutching his cheeks. The next was the same man with a look of shock. The rest were silent remorse glances with the eyes pointing upwards. Before on the last “jar”, the eyes were closed.

“ASTROGIUS: AQUARIUS DOLOR!!!” I screamed crossing then uncrossing my arms like conductors wands. Blasting the dragon with torrents of water. Blasting the dragon into the air I continued to fire over and over until It was out of sight.

Watching me with hateful intent Simon shook his head. He strolled towards me, all the while that shadow stalked behind him closely.

“Ya know I could’ve done without your savior complex I was handling it” Simon spat!”

“I saved your life and this is the thanks I get!”

“That’s rich!” In an instant, Simon’s body reacted throwing a kick behind himself. He connected against the shadow. “Coulda swore I just saved my own life!” Simon jested swinging his axe behind himself only for it to meet the ruins of a dilapidated home. Smashing through the rubble I could feel Simon’s heart sink. His eyes widened and his jaw drooped. He jumped back standing shoulder to shoulder with me.

“You saw that shit right?”

“Of course I saw it….what the hell is going on?”

“Didn’t mean to startle you fine gentlemen but….that’s my business venture you just shot into space.” A beastman appeared from the shadows... Not like oh he turned the corner and lo he was there. Oh no. His head, ears, muzzle, and then full body appeared from the shadows as if he stepped out from a doorway. “Ya know I had offered to seal that dragon away and avoid this whole mess needless death and destruction isn’t my style….but your king declined my offer” He snapped his fingers. The air felt crushing, pressure, debilitating pressure like standing at the bottom of the ocean felt like it was coming down on me. My head felt fit to implode and my mouth foamed. From what a blurry mess of vision I had I could make out one and only one thing he held a paintbrush in his paws. “And I really need to let off some steam” The beast lifted his muzzle and spoke in a language I couldn’t understand yet it felt oddly familiar to me. In an instant the dragon humanoid I shot into the air was back down to earth.

“Hears the plan Nid….you take the ax guy and I’ll have some fun with my target

The word burned into my ears….target. Me? But why? Just who was this guy and what did he want with me?

“I’m sorry your target? Me?”

“That’s what I said isn’t it?”

“But I’m just a simple guy”

“If that was true I wouldn’t be after your head!” He placed his paintbrush under my chin. “Anyone you would like to say goodbye to before I send you to the Kingdom in the sky?”

Before I could respond his arm flexed, and I was swatted into the air. His swing knocking me through the air like I was nothing more than a weightless toy. I slammed into the cobblestone street. Sliding and tumbling before coming to a stop when my back collided with a bent lamp post.

“Flaemis!!” Kin’s voice called. I heard footsteps as my head swam. Looking around I saw him. As handsome as ever, even as a blurry mess of dancing colors. He brought his arms around my head and pulled me into an embrace, placing my head against his chest.
“Ah well, this is unexpected! didn’t realize I’d be a widowmaker today...but that’s the luck of the draw I guess”

“Did you do this to Flaemis!”

“And what of it? As if a Kaido could hurt me?”

“I….I’ll show you….Flaemis didn’t marry a weak man”

“Woah there pal I didn’t say anything about weakness….all I said was you’re a Kaido”

Kin stood up and bowed.

“Kin’emon The Smokescreen from the Himeji family”

“Roxas Shirafude….Arch Bishop of Envy….Paladin for the Band of the Heartless Skull” he chuckled “I’m not a big deal or anything”
Kin’emon grabbed his mask, digging his clawed nails into it he pulled and pulled. Before Rip! It came off. Blood spraying into the air. His cheeks were gone, his tongue, teeth, and muscles visible through where his cheeks used to be. He staggered before glaring at Roxas.

“Oh….I never knew those could come off”
“Come now beastman….allow me to show you the law of the jungle” weakly I got to my feet.

“Sorry I don’t do long fights” He painted a sun on the ground. Black and vile with a sickening smile dead in the middle. He pointed towards the sky. The black sun rose to the sky and sat in the cloudless night. Roxas lowered his paintbrush and roared.

KUROSEIUS: SABBATH SETTING SUN!!!! With a bright flash of light, the sun exploded. Thousands upon thousands of blades fired upon the ground. Without thinking I pushed Kin out of the way. Coughing blood the blades pierced my body. The pain oh gods the pain. Every cell in my body screamed in utter agony as if I was being ripped apart microscopically.

“Oh that’s a shame….for you but a win for me” Roxas mocked folding his arms in dejection. “Wow…..its uh never this easy”

With one final gasp, I blacked out.

Darkness, light, darkness, light. It all circled around me. There before me wasn’t what I had hoped to see. But instead, it was my father. Huddled over a flickering ember of a once-great bonfire. He took notice of me, his jaw-dropping before leaping from his seat and running to me. He embraced me, his hug the same as it felt as a child. “Come take a seat...there’s a lot we need to talk about” He drug me and sat me in front of the bonfire.

“Dad?”

“Yes?”

“Are you real?”

He laughed and slapped his knee. Bordering on hysterics as he continued to laugh. “Of course I’m real this isn’t a dream dummy”

“...I Dad...did you trust Virgil?”

“That’s your grandfather Flaemis...of course I trusted him….well a lot more than your mother”

“But you loved mom?”

“Did I? I think you might be projecting a little…..I never loved your mother.” he sighed and rubbed his eyes. “Lemme explain…..it all begins forty years before you’re born”

He spoke leaning back and recalling his youth.

Mother? Just who were you? Was Virgil right about you? The questions continued in my mind as my father spoke. His voice passing through one ear and out the other as my mind continued to bubble and thunder about the many ever repeating thoughts that cycled like flashcards in my head.

“You haven’t even heard the worst bit”
