Chapter 8:
Welcome to the Republic of Meows!
9:00 p.m. arrived, and it was bedtime for the Nekota family.
"Debiru, you'll be sharing a room with Tanimaki."
The two slept in a bunk bed. Tanimaki took the top bunk. That was one thing he absolutely refused to compromise on.
"Grrrr... Zzzzz..."
Debiru's snoring was incredibly loud.
"Meow! I can't sleep, meow!"
After borrowing a pair of earplugs from Mayutan, Tanimaki was finally able to get a good night's sleep.
The next day, Debiru's training to become a Demon King began.
Since Debiru struggled with mathematics, Mayutan took charge of teaching him intensively.
"The problem is that you try to memorize formulas without understanding why they work. That's why you end up getting confused."
Mayutan spoke politely, but there was a hint of strictness in his tone. He had been entrusted with the important responsibility of educating the future Demon King.
However, even when Debiru wanted to think things through, he simply couldn't.
"Ugh, my head hurts. Why do I need calculus just to become the Demon King?" Debiru complained.
"Realistically, a Demon King will probably never use calculus during official duties. But studying it teaches you how to think for yourself."
"Ugh... I can't take this anymore..."
Debiru often ran away during math lessons. Pretending to go to the bathroom, he would quietly slip out through the back door.
To prevent that, Tanimaki was assigned to keep watch whenever Debiru went to the bathroom.
Meanwhile, Kylie observed everything through his clairvoyance.
He was worried about his son.
Not because Debiru disliked mathematics.
Just as he had been unable to kill the cockroach, Debiru was too kind. He would show mercy even to his enemies.
Kylie feared that this kindness might one day bring his son great unhappiness.
But Debiru had inherited that trait from Kylie himself.
And because of that, Kylie could not help but feel responsible.
