Chapter 54:
My Hero Academia: Gura Gura no Mi
The pressure of Yuto's swordsmanship filled the arena.
The air around him seemed to sharpen.
For a moment, even the crowd fell silent.
He had drawn both blades.
Present Mic's voice rose again. "Is this Yuto at his strongest? His Quirk has been countered, and now he is turning to Two Sword Style!"
Aizawa, who had been quiet for most of the match, leaned forward. "If his Quirk is being countered, continuing to rely on it would be a poor choice. Swordsmanship may be the only way to turn this around."
"We know Yuto's swordsmanship is excellent," Present Mic said. "His Two Sword Style is already terrifyingly advanced. But Honenuki's Softening still limits him. He is sinking, his footing is unstable, and Honenuki can hide inside the swamp. This is a bad position no matter how you look at it."
The analysis was harsh, but accurate. His legs were trapped.
The stage had become Honenuki's territory.
Honenuki had no reason to expose himself.
He could wait for the swamp to finish the job.
Aizawa gave a small nod. "Honenuki is using his Quirk well. He has both offense and defense here. He studied Yuto, chose the right battlefield, and limited his options. For a tactical fighter, this is excellent."
He paused. "Two Sword Style is his last clear chance."
The audience understood the danger.
Yuto had been forced to draw his swords, but even that might not be enough.
"Honenuki deserves to be called Class 1-B's strongest."
"He has controlled the whole match so far."
"The swamp stops him from moving properly."
"And Honenuki is hiding inside it. That's hard to deal with."
"It feels unfair, but it is a great strategy."
In the Class 1-A seats, the tension was even sharper.
Tokoyami's eyes were grave. "Being countered is never pleasant."
Bakugo clenched his fists. "What are you doing, Yuto? Stand up and crush that skull-faced extra already!"
Midoriya shouted until his voice cracked. "Yuto, you can do it!"
Ochaco raised both fists. "Yuu-kun, don't lose!"
Momo's palms were damp with sweat.
She knew better than anyone how much a correct counter could change a battle.
Across from them, Class 1-B was louder than ever.
Tetsutetsu shouted, "That's it, Honenuki! Show them Class 1-B is the strongest!"
Monoma smiled so widely it was almost theatrical. "Oh? What happened to Class 1-A's star? I thought Yuto Kanzaki was unbeatable."
Mineta threw a sticky sphere in Class 1-B's direction. "Shut up! Yuto is going to win!"
Ibara Shiozaki looked at the sticky ball with clear disgust. "How vulgar."
The two classes started arguing again.
On the battlefield, Honenuki's voice rose from somewhere inside the swamp.
"Your fans are loyal, Yuto. Even now, they still believe in you."
The dark surface rippled.
"But your swords can't reach me. Your footing is gone. Your tremors are being dispersed. If you keep struggling, the swamp will swallow you. Surrender before this becomes dangerous."
Yuto glanced down at the swamp, then back toward the sound of Honenuki's voice.
"Honenuki," he said, "is that all you can do?"
The arena went quiet. Yuto's tone was not angry.
That made it more frightening.
"If this is all you have, I'm going to defeat you in one move."
The crowd gasped. Even Honenuki fell silent for a second.
He had the advantage. He had prepared the field.
He had countered Yuto's strongest visible weapon.
And yet, because his opponent was Yuto Kanzaki, that calm voice made something cold creep up his spine.
"Are you trying to shake me with words?" Honenuki asked.
Yuto shook his head. "No. I respect your strength. That's why I let you show it." He lifted both swords.
"If I'd gotten serious from the start, this match would already be over."
Honenuki's expression darkened.
"You really are confident."
"I am."
His blades glinted.
"Now show me everything you prepared."
