Chapter 55:

Five Waves

My Hero Academia: Gura Gura no Mi

The crowd felt it again. That familiar pressure.

That impossible confidence. This was Yuto Kanzaki.

The same student who had stood before hundreds of cameras and declared that he would win the Sports Festival. The arena came alive.

"Yuto!"

"Show him!"

"Win this!"

The cheers crashed over the stadium.

Inside the swamp, Honenuki's face tightened. "Fine," he said. "If that's what you want, I'll give it to you."

The entire swamp began to churn.

"Swamp Tsunami."

The black surface rose. One wave. Then another. Then another.

Five enormous walls of softened earth and mud towered over the ring, each more than ten meters high. They loomed above Yuto like black cliffs, blocking out the light as they rolled toward him.

Honenuki's voice echoed from within the swamp.

"This match is mine!"

The spectators stared in horror.

He had turned the entire battlefield into a weapon.

Present Mic shouted, "Honenuki has created five massive waves from the softened arena! They're closing in on Yuto from every side!" Aizawa's expression tightened.

Yuto's Quirk had been countered. His movement was restricted.

His opponent was hidden. And now five waves were collapsing toward him.

Several spectators shut their eyes.

Ochaco, Momo, and the others could do nothing but watch, their hearts in their throats. The black waves descended.

Yuto's swords shone. Pressure gathered around his blades until the air seemed to hum.

Honenuki shouted, "It's useless! Even if you could use your full strength, you couldn't cut through my Swamp Tsunami!"

"Is that so?"

Yuto smiled. "If one slash isn't enough, I'll cut through with the next one. As many as it takes." He swung both swords.

"Two Sword Style: Seven Hundred Twenty Pound Phoenix."

The flying slash erupted from his blades like a blue cannon blast.

It was not just a flying slash.

The force of the Gura Gura no Mi was infused into the attack, turning the slash into a vibrating blade of destruction.

The air tore open in its path.

Boom. The first black wave shattered.

Boom. The second collapsed. Honenuki's eyes widened.

Impossible.

The third wave broke apart. Then the fourth.

Then the fifth. Each impact hit like thunder.

Each collapse sent a shock through him.

His strongest move had been cut through cleanly.

The slash continued through the broken waves and struck him.

Honenuki was blasted out of the swamp and sent rolling. He hit the ruined ground and came to a stop beyond the boundary. The match was over.

Yuto had won. The ring was gone. Not damaged. Gone.

The Sports Festival stage had become a ruined wasteland. Broken stone, softened mud, shattered barriers, and falling debris covered the field.

The broken waves burst into the air as dark spray.

For several seconds, black rain fell over the stadium. No one spoke.

The audience stared at the destroyed arena. One technique.

Five massive waves. All of them shattered.

Could a fifteen-year-old high school student really have that much power?

Present Mic was the first to recover. His voice trembled through the speakers.

"Unbelievable... Yuto Kanzaki wins. A decisive victory."

Aizawa stood before he realized it, eyes locked on the field.

"He was countered. His footing was taken away. His Quirk's direct effect was weakened. He could not use Two Sword Style from a proper stance."

He exhaled.

"And he still won. He combined swordsmanship and his Quirk with perfect timing. That was the key."

Present Mic looked at the battlefield. "One attack broke all five waves. Honenuki may have forced Yuto to show more strength than we have seen in this tournament."

The question settled over the arena.

Was that Yuto's full strength? Aizawa knew the answer.

No.

He had seen USJ. He had seen Yuto fight beside All Might.

This was still not everything.

And somehow, since his fight with Bakugo, Yuto had grown stronger again.

That thought made Aizawa's spine go cold.

After a long silence, the stadium erupted.

"Yuto! Yuto! Yuto!"

The cheers rose into the sky.

For that moment, the arena belonged to him.
