Chapter 19:

The Photo Booth After the Shop

That month of yearning

The shopping bag bumped against my knee right as Saya stopped in front of the photo booth.

"Hey, let's get into the booth?" she asked me, with her eyes looking up at my face. It looked quite similar to a view I'm accustomed to, but I'd rather not comment.

"Sure, we've got the time."

We got into the booth, which appeared quite small. Much smaller than my expectations though, as it brought me and Saya a lot closer. We awkwardly placed our bags on one side, and I looked at the screen to understand how all of this works.

"I have heard this allows for a plethora of customization options. You bet I'm gonna draw all over you." I joked, my eyes still on the screen.

"Hey, that's not fair. If you do it, I will reply in kind. Hmph." Guess she wasn't happy and wanted a simpler recreation of our moment together.

The screen flashes a ready symbol, with a countdown now starting from 10. I glanced at Saya to see her patting her sideburn, as she looked in the mirror provided to ready yourself. I looked at myself as well and saw my disheveled self in full display. Not that it mattered to me.

"What does Saya see here that I can't?" I whispered to myself, as I wait for the countdown to come down.

I could feel Saya shift weirdly across the seat, as she was looking up to me. I wanted to correct her, given the countdown was almost finished, but decided not to go for it.

"Looks like I need to shift a bit closer so that we are in the same frame." She looked a bit hestitant.

"It's fine, come closer"

I then felt her approach closer to me, one sec at a time. I breathed in heavily, as I waited the countdown to finish. I agreed to it, but maybe I wasn't ready for it. 3.

To my surprise, it didn't end there. Saya brought her face closer to me, practically sticking her left cheek to my right.

"WRAH!" I squealed in astonishment, but it was a bit less nuanced this time. 2.

I noticed Saya's gaze at me as she opened her mouth. "Stay close." 1.

The flash brightened as it took the photo, without giving me a chance to ready myself. Saya stood up from her seat to look at the dashboard that shows the screen for customization. She let out a sheepish smile, as I wondered what my face looked like in the photo.

"You look hilarious, check it out." she waved at me to take a look.

And no wonder, it looked like a caterpillar had gone inside my dress and was all over my back. I could not believe that was me. The face looked similar to me, but the expression was something I have never seen.

"Looks like I don't even need to edit this!" Saya let out a hearty laugh.

I joined in her laughter, as I enjoyed being the butt of the joke this time around. There's a first time for everything, huh?
