Chapter 23:

Chapter 23

2.5 billion times

In front of the entrance to the warehouse, the soldiers stand still, that place was huge, they didn't know if it had always been there or if it was built during that war. The metal of the walls was a darker gray, there were some black marks on it that had been left by grease, but nothing too flashy to detract from the enchanting beauty of its size. The main door was open and through it you could see that there was nothing inside that place, it was completely abandoned. Despite the lack of light inside the building, you could see that there were some objects inside it, but you couldn't get a sense of what work was being done inside because these objects were from different areas of work.

-What do you think? (Nikolas)

- Probably a trap. (captain)

-No doubt. (Nikolas)

-What are we going to do, captain? (Soldier)

-Unfortunately we can't ignore it and just walk away. (captain)

-So you think we have a chance of winning in a direct confrontation? (Soldier)

The captain will not answer the poor soldier, the truth is that the captain knew what would happen if they entered that trap. But he couldn't help it, going back to his bosses saying he'd retreated from a battle without starting it would not be pleasant in their ears.

-Let's move forward. (captain)

The captain starts to go towards the entrance in a crouch, after he leaves four more soldiers follow him in the same way. After reaching the left side of the entrance wall, he motions with his fist indicating for his soldiers to wait. Looking at all corners he didn't see where they might be hiding and didn't see a possible entrance to be attacked.

I need to look deeper. (captain)

Making signs with his left hand, he warns his soldiers to get in order and spread out after that. As requested, they followed their captain's instructions. After everyone enters they turn on flashlights that are supported by their weapons to improve visibility in that darkness. Checking every area of that floor he confirmed that there were no enemies around. Looking up, he sees the office that should have been where the boss would be looking at his employees and where command control would be. Calling one of his soldiers to get to the control room with him, he heads towards the scene. Entering through the door that led to the staircase, they noticed that the lighting got even worse, as there was no light coming in. Arriving at the door of the command room, which was closed, the captain takes two steps away from her and stands in front of her, while the soldier stood to the side just waiting for the signal. The captain shakes his head to the soldier who immediately opens the door with everything, on the view that he was facing the room, there were no living souls inside the room. Entering it the captain starts looking at the buttons that were there, until he finally found one with an illustration of a lamp, after clicking on it the lights were turned on. The rest of the group waiting outside looked at the place now lit up, consumed by anxiety, everyone was on guard for whatever might happen. Leaving a little outside, the captain signals with both hands that everything is free.

-Looks like we can go inside. Come on boys. (Nikolas)

Entering an unknown location, all the soldiers advance through that gigantic door invading the warehouse.

-Looks kind of dark inside. (Mike)

-This place hasn't been used for a long time, it's full of dust. (Thomas)

Outside of casual conversation between the soldiers, the two captains debated the situation.

-What do you think? (Nikolas)

-Doesn't smell good to me, by the way how did you find this warehouse? (captain)

-One of my soldiers said he found it while we were camping. (Nikolas)

The captain starts thinking about the situation until an idea comes to his mind leaving his face frozen.

-What do you mean one of your soldiers? Wasn't everyone supposed to be on guard at the camp along with the others? (captain)

Nikolas seems to have realized the idea behind his mate's fear, but it was too late, the entrance doors begin to close.

-What is that? (soldier 1)

-Why are these things moving? (soldier 2)

The captain looks at the command room and it is possible to see the figure of an allied soldier watching everyone. He points his gun at his teammates, but ends up getting the first shot in his forehead, dying instantly. The captain who had drawn his pistol and shot him was worried about a possible euphoria, but before he could get through the instructions one of his younger soldiers runs desperately trying to get out of the place before the door closes.

-WAIT!! Don't go out there! (captain)

As soon as the soldier crosses the line of the door outwards he is shot to the right side of his head, dropping dead to the ground, his companions could only briefly see the sight of his companion losing blood as the door was finally closed completely. From inside the woods, enemy soldiers begin to pour out in piles towards the warehouse, some instead of weapons were carrying ladders.

Inside the warehouse, the soldiers' lack of control was a problem, they were scared and couldn't concentrate on what was to be done. Everyone knew they could die at that moment, so they were terribly scared.

-What do we do? (soldier 1)

-I don't want to die... (Soldier 2)

-I grew up my whole life with that guy, he just got shot in the head, what's going on? (soldier 3)

-Get back together, you bastards! We need to get into training. (Thomas)

Arthur looked at that scene, that despair that everyone felt was penetrating his head, with the little time he saw the situation he was also consumed by that emotion. His vision was blurry and uneven, all his colleagues were getting deformed, he was getting dizzy and retching, vomiting on the floor.

-Are you okay? (Mike)

Mike crouches down and puts his arm over Arthur's back, but that is not enough to calm him down.

I will die here, we will all die here. Does it mean that I will never be able to see my friends again, does it mean that I won't be able to give Angelica an answer about us... I will never see my father again? (Arthur)

But in the midst of all that chaos, there was a demon who knew exactly what to do.

-SHUT UP YOUR WORMS! (captain)

Drawing everyone's attention to himself, he starts to speak.

-What are you doing!? What deplorable situation is this that I am seeing in front of me? You are soldiers! Nothing more than that and nothing less. To die? Are you afraid to die? Dying was something that should have been natural for you who came here, you knew that day would come. Yet even in the face of death you are not allowed to retreat without a fight, everyone here is not free to flee, because none of you can shame the name and glory of our country! Now draw your guns and get into the damn formation! (captain)

In shock at what was said, the soldiers moved quickly.

-LET'S GO! They won't wait for us! Get moving! (captain)

Before long, everyone was ready for battle and in the nick of time, as enemies began to invade through the windows.
