Chapter 7:

Interlude: Seven

Lost Paradise

Seven.

What does it mean?

Is it just a number?

Or a name?

Or something else?

Year 22021CE

Kepler B

Burrou City

A river of white light scattered over the horizon as the girl stood below them stupefied, her blue eyes gazing lovingly at the unbeknownst night sky wishing to one day traverse up there into the unknown.

As the freezing vile winds blew through the grassland, Aurora shivered, as she tightly held the warm blanket around her body trying her best to not freeze to death.

It wasn't unusual for the girl to not find any shelter at night, but today she had really wished it wasn't the case. With the glint of starling illuminating the land, she tried to imagine himself inside a house.

She could see it, a wooden cottage, not too big yet not too small enough for her to live in. As she entered the cottage, a wave of warmth crashed into her.

Aurora's eyes sparkled with joy, at the sight of the twin-sized, wooden bed.

"Finally a bed," she exclaimed as he jumped into it, savouring the comfort and warmth that came with it. And then another gust of wind came, breaking down her fantasy once again.

"As that could really happen," Aurora smiled miserably. Curling into a ball as she pulled the blanket close to her chest.

"Now that I think. This isn't so bad after all." She murmured, her eyelids getting heavier with every passing second. "If I close my eyes now I can sleep. I want to sleep."

“Subject seven it's time,” Laurel stepped inside the simulated dome, holding the gray datapad close to her chest. Her emerald eyes gazed upon the figure of eleven-year-old Aurora.

“Do I really have to go back?” Aurora’s lips trembled. Her face turned pale as the memory from a few hours ago resurfaced.

“Yes.”

“I don’t want to go!” She screamed, closing her eyes shut as she started breathing rapidly. Tightening her grip around the blanket Aurora screamed, in a vile attempt of making the adult leave.

However, it was all for nought.

Laurel sighed as she called the guards. A whistle blew, a Keplian voice cried out something and the next thing she knew was a pair of arms grabbing the back of her head and smashing it on the ground.

It wasn’t strong enough to kill but enough to make her wish she was dead. And before she knew it she was being dragged outside. Regaining her consciousness Aurora began to struggle once again trying her best to break free from the clutches of her capturer.

As a last attempt Aurora bit on the lean arm of the guard finally breaking free and dashing towards the opposite direction. She needs to run away-yes as fast as possible. The more time she spends there the more pain she will feel.

Aurora took a step and stopped. Something had hit her in the chest. It was as if she had been punched. She looked left and right but there was nobody close to her. How very strange.

Her body was paralyzed and her entire body felt as if it had been set on fire, the morning sky above-the guards-Laurel-the grass below-all of it felt as if they were fading away, her vision began to fumble and the light around her slowly began to dye in the crimson.

Aurora looked down and was surprised to see that her whole front was turning crimson, on the closer look she could see the missing chunk of flesh in her abdomen.

At the same time, she became aware that the sound of her screams had faded. It was as if something had pulled her out of the world and she was only seeing it from a very long way away. Laurel had stopped and turned to look at him. Her eyes shone with fear and dread as she ran towards her.

But it didn’t matter anymore.

Then the grassland played a trick on her, tilting so suddenly that it seemed to turn upside down. Her vision had almost diminished, she couldn't feel her body anymore.

She was lying on the ground. There was a red circle around her, widening with every second that passed. She tried to call for Laurel who was now cradling her body in her embrace. Aurora opened her mouth again and that was it.

She opened her mouth to ask for help but no words, not even a breath, came out.

Aurora was starting to feel scared. There was no pain at all, but the missing flesh in her abdomen was enough to tell her it was the end of her.

Using the last of her power Aurora tried to get up, use her arm to hold onto Laurel, she never had liked her but at the very end at the very least she wanted her to be remembered. But her body would no longer obey her. Gazing at the grey eyes of Laurel for one last time she smiled.

Aurora Dastune Subject 07 V12 smiled and closed her eyes.

6 months later

“The last clone was a failure?”

“Yes sir,” Laurel replied, her eyes gazed down at the black marble floor as the sixty-year-old Juno sipped the wine from his goblet.

“Why?”

“I don’t know.”

Juno sighed as he turned around and walked towards the green cylindrical tube at the back of the dark lit room. His emerald eyes glistened with pain as he touched the tube, inside it was a green transparent liquid blanketing the body of the mauve haired girl.

Her eyes were closed, as her rosy lips were curved upwards into a smile. She looked like a baby yet to be corrupted by the real world outside.

“This will be the last time Laurel,” Juno said, “If you can’t get her to move Bastet this time I will personally seal the laboratory and bring an end to this project.”

“I understand Sir,”

“Good,” Juno sipped from his goblet for one last time as his eyes wandered towards a portrait of a young woman hanging on the far side of the room. At the bottom of the portrait it said:

“Aurora Dastune

Loving Daughter of Juno Dastune.
