Chapter 37:

The Bard, Fuguyama (Part 5)

Welcome to the Republic of Meows!

“Gack! That’s awful!” Debiru cried, blinking in shock.

“Ugh! What kind of fruit tastes this bad?”

It was Mayutan’s first time eating Libera Fruit.

“You useless bunch! Did you finally come back to your senses, meow?”

Even though Tanimaki had been in the exact same state until moments ago, he sounded terribly full of himself.

“Why in the world were we trying to eat Mr. Fuguyama?” Debiru asked.

“It started after we drank that wine!” Mayutan said sharply.

“That’s right! That woman said something about being ‘a loyal servant of Undo’!” Fuguyama said.

“So that woman is our enemy!” Debiru growled, glaring fiercely at Belle.

“We finally ran into an enemy, meow,” Tanimaki said, looking oddly satisfied.

His eyes sparkled with curiosity, as though a grand adventure had just begun. Of course, he had absolutely no understanding of how serious the current situation was.

“Does that mean Undo has found out about us?” Mayutan said, his voice filled with alarm.

“Curse you! I was so close! Very well, then… I’ll just have to attack you directly with my magic!”

Belle said this and took a fighting stance.

“Wait! Let’s talk this out!”

Debiru suddenly offered peace talks.

“What are you being so soft for, Debiru? She’s one of Undo’s minions, meow!”

Fed up with Debiru’s excessive kindness, Tanimaki immediately prepared to attack.

But Belle had frozen in place. She was stunned by Debiru’s terrifying face.

“Tanimakick!”

Without missing the chance, Tanimaki unleashed his special move. Its name was the Tanimakick. He took a running start, leaped into the air, and delivered a powerful kick.

“Aaaah!”

The Tanimakick struck Belle on the side of the head. The impact sent her crashing headfirst into the floor, and she passed out.

“Mewhehehehe! That’s yours truly for you, meow,” Tanimaki said, praising himself.

“Are you all right?”

Debiru was worried about Belle, even though she was their enemy. But perhaps the impact of the Tanimakick had been too powerful, because Belle did not wake up.

“Debiru Empathy!”

Debiru Empathy was Debiru’s magic, a spell that resonated with another person’s heart and allowed him to read their emotions and thoughts.

“Hmm, hmm. I see. So that’s how it is.”

Debiru understood Belle’s heart.
