Chapter 1:

The Beginning

Starting Today, I'm the Head of an Elite Alchemist Clan?!

If I told you there was magic in this world, would you believe me? I sure didn’t. That is, until yesterday.. The day that changed everything.

//One Day Ago//

The alarm was blaring in my ear, alerting me to wake up for school. This was the first time I’ve lasted a whole semester without needing to transfer. Usually, something strange around me would happen by now — that was normal for me. Staying somewhere for a while, however, wasn't.

As I brushed my purple hair while looking in the mirror, I was reminded of my strange appearance. I usually tried to avoid my reflection. The hue of my hair and lack of color in my face always caused people to whisper about me. With a sigh, I gathered all of my things together and headed out the door.

Classes felt long. Keeping up with studies was hard for me since I always changed schools and had different material to catch up on. I should probably start paying closer attention now though..

I raised my hand to ask the teacher a question and heard someone laugh behind me.

“Look, Sakurai could talk.”

Ah yes, typical snickers from my fellow classmates. “Creepy” and “cursed” are usually their go-to insults but I wish they’d at least try to be more creative. It’s getting kind of repetitive. Like is that really all you could think of?

I do look different from the average person though so I can’t blame them. My skin was so pale to the point where it was practically translucent and I was born with dark purple hair — something never seen before. Not to mention, misfortune seemed to follow me everywhere I went. Fires would break out around me, large building signs would fall right in front of me.. Okay, maybe they might be onto something.

Despite how I look, I enjoy coffee and sweets. It’s what gets me through the day. So, as I pick-me-up, I was on the hunt for an after school treat.

When I got to my usual favorite, Kitsune Café, there was a sign that said they were closed for maintenance. I guess I could look somewhere else. Across the street, I noticed a shop I’ve never seen before. Was that always there?

It had a brick storefront with an old looking wooden sign at the top, saying, “Fortune’s Kiss.”

Curiosity got the best of me and I headed towards the mysterious café.

Little did I know, this random whim would be the start of the rest of my life.
