Chapter 2:

Welcome to Fortune’s Kiss

Starting Today, I'm the Head of an Elite Alchemist Clan?!

Inside was vibrant yet warm, with earthy colors like brown and green that filled the whole shop. The menu was straightforward and simple, listing a variety of beans. A specialty coffee shop, I see. Perfect! I ordered a latte and a slice of their basque cheesecake.

When my order arrived, I was visually blown away. The latte art had a bear with a heart and the basque cheesecake made my mouth water. Upon taking a bite, I had no words to describe the taste. Where has this place been all my life!?

Relishing in bliss, I couldn’t help but have a huge smile on my face while holding my cheek. This is heaven! When looking up, I accidentally made eye contact with the barista who took my order. Mortified, I immediately turned away, my cheeks growing hot. I can’t believe he saw me in such a vulnerable state! As I got up to leave, he called out to me.

“Please come again!”

“Yes, I will!” I said with a smile. I meant it from the bottom of my heart.

I caught myself humming on the way home. Ah, how nice it is to indulge in the things you like! I started paying more attention to my surroundings, enjoying the moment.

But.. Something felt off.

It’s the same feeling as when you know you have dust or lint on your face but you can’t get it off. You know it’s there but can’t quite pinpoint it.

In the sky, I noticed colorful translucent swirls dancing around like falling petals on a spring day. I was mesmerized yet perplexed; was this some kind of street show? Technology has sure come a long way.

A shadow overhead passed me and I couldn’t believe my eyes. It looked like a dragon. Was there something in my coffee that’s making me hallucinate? I started speed walking now. I definitely needed to get some sleep.

Before I could turn the corner, something large abruptly landed in front of me, causing an impact on the pavement and throwing me off my feet. Feeling disoriented, I sat myself up. When the dust started to settle, I saw that there was a burly man with a scar on the right side of his face. Chills ran down my spine when I saw his savage smile. And he started to walk towards.. Me?!

“I was off the clock but who would’ve thought I’d run into you. I’ll make sure I get paid extra for this.”

I looked around because surely he had the wrong person.

“You’re talking to me?”

“Who else, you fool. Sorry but you’re going to have to die now. King’s orders.”
