Chapter 53:
Welcome to the Republic of Meows!
“Let’s join forces and defeat Undo. Having someone as powerful as you on our side would be a tremendous help.”
Mayutan tried to persuade Anger to join them.
But Anger gently shook his head.
“My mother would not want me to take revenge on Undo. That is why I cannot fight alongside you.”
He had chosen to honor his mother’s wish rather than give in to hatred—and that decision spoke to the depth of compassion within his heart.
“I learned about you through rumors from another town, and I challenged you to a fight so I could test your abilities. If you cannot defeat me, you stand no chance against Undo.”
If Anger had been fighting in earnest, Tanimaki and the others would undoubtedly have been defeated. The three exchanged grave looks.
“...Do you know of any weakness Undo might have?”
Mayutan spoke quietly. If they could find even a single clue, they might be able to turn the odds in their favor.
“Unfortunately, I do not. Undo does not trust me, and even though I am his son, he would never reveal his weaknesses to me. What makes him truly terrifying is not his magical power, but his cautious nature.”
“...Teach me how to teleport, meow.”
Debiru and Mayutan gasped at Tanimaki’s words.
Tanimaki, of all cats, was asking for something with an utterly serious expression—something he had never done before.
“You certainly have the talent for it. Even so, mastering teleportation will require rigorous training. Can you endure it?” Anger asked.
“I’ll do it, meow.”
At that moment, for the first time in his life, Tanimaki resolved to take on a challenge.
“Wait a second! We don’t have time for training! Papa’s life is in danger!”
Debiru raised his voice, urging them not to lose sight of the purpose of their journey—saving the life of his father, Demon King Kylie.
Just then, a sudden tapping at the window broke the silence.
